It's human nature to use each other, to materialize. Hell, we're doing it right now to each other. That's the essence of capitalism. What counts is that it's a somewhat even exchange.
Not to get technical but whereas H. Rollins is from the east coast, Black Flag is an L.A. band. And of course the Los Angeles scene in the late 70s rules over all others---that's not open to discussion.
we also used to see The Residents at The Crystal Ballroom. i think that was one of the first punk venues in melb, although legend has it the honour goes to the st kilda inn. scratch the surface, spirit's still there.
I really was under the impression that the punk era and the DIY spirit was gone. I think that's just because I live in a place where I'm completely surrounded by yuppies. I am immersed in the antipunk. I was just thinking my generation should be churning-out a radical youth movement at some point. We're obviously oppressed enough. I suppose you're right in thinking that things like youtube will be a conduit for that movement.
Th closer you are to a shopping mall or parking lot, the further you are from DIY....You need to be where people actually live AND walk and talk and see each other on the street. Modern Yup-urbia ain't it.
The 60s didn't die. Those idealistic, hopeful -optimistic - people are still out there. They are in the Green Party, the Labour party, the peace movement that stood up and opposed the illegal invasion of Iraq and that continues to oppose violence and injustice everywhere. They founded Greenpeace and still support it with money and time and their labour. Their kids and thinking people of all ages 'hear' that war and greed are stupid and self-defeating.
not everyone can be a henry rolling or mdk or the sex pistrols.if you did the best you can theres no dishonour in that if you did not make it to the 20th level( old video term). seccess is not everything in life you know. just a thought
Happened to me too. I've seen it several other times. The video goes so far then fast-forwards all the way to the end. I just refresh or replay and so far I've been able to watch the whole thing.

Punk's definitely not dead, it just takes a different form than it did back then. Evolution is good. :D

We should get on with it then.

Aye and now ye're pickin' a fight again just to
prove you're Irish. What started in the 60's
isn't over til the last one of us gets a
shovelfull of dirt in the face. Best of all
there is a new generation rising who think
like grandpa and they aren't thrilled with the
yupps either.

I see you've narrowed the wardrobe down to just one shirt. Pragmatism!

When things get too big, can't trust them at all. You want some control, you have to keep it small. --Peter Gabriel, DIY, 1978.

It's a conscious recognition of the limits of human capability to apprehend reality and act in it.

Dunno about Fugazi, but you're the best thing to come out of Australia, next to only Nick Cave.
LOL @ "poisoned by loserdom". Your title has the Exploited running loops in my head. Thanks for that.

Youtube hardly measures up to Gibson's idea of jacking in! Maybe in its most embryonic of forms...
