It's amazing how you can just think about a song and look it up and it's there, this song is so true, but if it's an issue there Stevie will put it to the public.Thank for posting
This song is as true today as was when it was recorded. There is still racism and they still use excuses from the police to the Republcan party. Loved it always.
SO WOULD YOU COMPARE YOURSELF TO JOHNNIEWALKER BLACK OR RED??? :) THANX FOR UPLOADS OF STEVIE WONDER!! I'VE LOOKED FOR THIS SONG FOR YEARS OFF OF LIMEWIRE AND FROSTWIRE, FINALLY BOUGHT IT ON ITUNES BUT THIS SOUNDS MUCH BETTER!I I'VE GOT MY BASS CRANKED RIGHT NOW!!
If we judge the world we live in according to this video (song) "the more things change the more they stay the same," Nothing has really changed from then till now except the TIME! Wake UP. COME OUT OF HER!
Unfortunetly, All the discrimination and everything else that's set against the Black community is what is reflected in our music. We take the bad and make something great out of it, while the powers that be will jump off a building from notice of a stock plunge.
i can't tell you how many times in the past six months i have run into this situation. in fact, it happened today. was the first to respond to a new apartment ad. encouraged to come in and fill out application and pay application fee. i arrive, and suddenly both apartments had JUST been looked at the the other parties have right of first refusal. call back tomorrow. "can i fill out the application?" "why don't you take it with you." i'm about to be homeless because of this nonsense.
@funniestguyonearth1 Funny you mention that, I have tried to do that for all my videos, but because of the copyright claim by UMG that option gets reset to not allow it. I was going through a shit load of videos and set them all to allow for mobile access. Then went back in a few days later and they all got reset back to Not Allow or whatever. Not very happy about that.
Its funny how racism was so prevalent that Stevie Wonder could "see" it, thats amazing, you can deeply sense when people are treating you a certain way because of your race
Even though I don't have racist tendencies, I feel like music seals the deal in making it IMPOSSIBLE for me to be racist. How can I hate black people if Stevie Wonder is one of them? How can I hate Hispanic people if Carlos Santana is one of them? Music brings people together soooo much more than we realize.
@motowninvestor I thought that I was the only person feeling the fonky intro... I believe that if Stevie never made it famous, he'd be sittin on the porch down south playin funky honkytonk with some hillybillies and blues singers leaving folks in total disbelief! He is definitely the 8th wonder of the world to me! LOL
Stevie's genius transcends time, race, gender, humanity. His lyrics are only bested by his songbird like vocals and he touches people every generation. There will never be another like him. Let us celebrate this great man/entertainer while we still have him here on earth!
in my house....only stevie was allowed....we only listend to anita baker and mozart.....from 3 to 16....thats alllllll......i know every stevie song out there...and all have there tim ein history
Just for shits and giggles and a subtle reminder of history that white folks would conveniently like us to forget ; I think every time OBAMA walks into a room for a press conference he should have this song playing in the background.... Better yet... he could've had the D.J. at the Inaugural ball play this song for their dance as first couple. Couldn't you see them dancing... TOOOO TOOOO DIP), ... TOO BAD !!. TOOOO TOOOO (DIP)... TOO SAD!!! .. Don't let people forget the struggle.
Man we are one people. Obama can play any song. Yes there is a struggle and there will always be one. But lets work together collectively (all cultures) to ease the sturggles and come out a better nation/people!!! Thats What Obama Is About!!!
I totally agree with you man. I'm just having a little fun with history..The important thing to remember is to not forget the past. Much of what went on wasn't all racism . It was Human nature playing out in the power structure . You get money and power being passed around combined with people blindly doing anything to control it without checking themselves or the rationale for their actions . When all cultures acknowledge this part of our condition and work together we can ease the struggle.
I agree we are now in this all together.......ONE NATION, now and the future. We should work as one people for the hope of all good human beings. Love is the future, let us grow together. Memphis, Tn.
I was a college freshman on the track team. We played this song (and the entire hotter than july album) during the spring of 1981 during a road trip from ohio to Georgia. This was the best time of my life!
how could you when we first got this album i was 10 yrs old and this was one of my favs on the album, because it had this distinctive style and very similar to the new rap music that was becoming popular at that time (1980)
Hey Johnniewalker23, Love You for posting all this Stevie Stuff. This (album) was the impetus for the Dr. MLK holiday, and the young folks need to hear GREAT music from a REAL GENIUS. God Bless You
I was 11 yrs old when moms came home this this record, I loved this one immediately because of the funk and its similarites to the new rap music that was becoming popular at that time. Then when I started to sing along I saw the entire story in the most amazing cinematography (my imagination) Stevie paints these image thats unbelievable.
I never used to like this song when I listened to this album. Maybe I was too young to appreciate it. But as Ive got older and wiser ;-) Ive got a renewed appreciation for it. Lyrically it deals with the issue of racial discrimination so well, the concept of 'Cashing in your face'. Also the way his voice changes octave as he 'plays' different roles. How would someone who was a star since he was a child relate so well to the suffering of others far less privileged? Oh well, genius@work I suppose!
The answer to your question is that when Stevie was first becoming a star It was at a time when Stardom for black people didn't matter. They would play to huge crowds that loved them but whites still wouldn't let them go through the front door ,Eat in the same restaurant or use the same restroom. It wasn't a matter of Stevie relating to it... he actually lived it !!! That's the part younger people rarely know about the early black performers.. they weren't just able to kick it like USHER..
It's amazing how you can just think about a song and look it up and it's there, this song is so true, but if it's an issue there Stevie will put it to the public.Thank for posting
