A friend of mine is pan-sexual but completely monogamous. She holds no concept of gender roles and treat all genders and sexualities on a merit basis. Yet, she only is with whatever lover she is in a relationship with (unless she has none). Cheating is perfectly valid with monogamy, it's a betrayal of trust, the same trust that is needed for many just to engage in sex in the first place. Trust, jealousy, love, possession and romance all play parts in my own sexuality.
I have already stated this numerous times in this thread of comments. It is only cheating if there is a promise. I scoff at making those promises. It is one so many do not keep. And even if they keep it, you most likely will break up and fuck someone else. So for me, monogamy seems pointless because it is usually temporary at best or lied about at worst.

Silly or not, that's the "contract" they made, and breaking that is, thus, a valid complaint.

I agree with your view so much, Shayrah. I can't really call myself a pansexual since I find myself only attracted to the feminine side of the gender spectrum, but I feel that love should be free and open. I don't understand marriage and monogamous relationships at all. But I hold my friends very dear to my heart and I'm fiercely loyal.
It... scares me though. I don't know anyone else in person who shares my views. I can't help but think I'm nothing but a slut, a sicko or something... >.<

A friend of mine is pan-sexual but completely monogamous. She holds no concept of gender roles and treat all genders and sexualities on a merit basis. Yet, she only is with whatever lover she is in a relationship with (unless she has none). Cheating is perfectly valid with monogamy, it's a betrayal of trust, the same trust that is needed for many just to engage in sex in the first place. Trust, jealousy, love, possession and romance all play parts in my own sexuality.

I have already stated this numerous times in this thread of comments. It is only cheating if there is a promise. I scoff at making those promises. It is one so many do not keep. And even if they keep it, you most likely will break up and fuck someone else. So for me, monogamy seems pointless because it is usually temporary at best or lied about at worst.

I agree with everything you said, with one exception; the part about cheating. In a monogamous relationship, cheating is a valid concept. It's bad less because of the act itself and more because it's a betrayal of trust. A monogamous relationship is defined by the fact that both people - explicitly or implicitly - agree to only have sex with each other. Silly or not, that's the "contract" they made, and breaking that is, thus, a valid complaint.
If it's an open relationship, though, go wild!

Yes, that was my point. In a monogamous relationship, cheating is wrong precisely because it's a betrayal of trust. In an open relationship, the whole issue doesn't come up because do the same thing is not cheating in that context.
However, not everyone is - for whatever combination of intrinsic, cultural, social and psychological reasons - able to handle open or polygamous relationships. I have great respect for those who can.

Honestly, I enjoy monogamy, not for religious reasons. It always bugs me this pansexual attitude that monogamny is somehow silly. I have no desire to be with multiple women. None. Monogamy is unnatural and difficult. I think people who sustain it are admirable.

For example, if you are bi and have a relationship with the same sex they will call you gay or if you end up with the opposite sex they will call you hetero...but you are still bi.

If you're straight up about it, then what's the harm? The person can choose to be in that type of relationship or not. So really I agree with you and I hate how society creates 'taboos' then wonders why we all lie and cheat.

oh my, maybe for a change of pace you could pan-on-over and give monogamy a try. You just might find that the trust which builds in a loving relationship adds something to the sexual experience.

@Shayrah Doh ,"I have tried it. It is not for me", it is not like trying pickled beets where each taste like the next, and one can logical state, 'well i tried one so why should i try any others'. I am not saying you should or have to, but i am saying keep an open mind about it. You might find your self pleasantly surprised for when you can whole heartily 100% trust your lover, when you know that when you turn to face the world they will have your back. There is a magic that happens.

Wow, in case you didn't read...I have been with one of my partners for over 9 years now. What makes you think your monogamous relationship will last forever or your lover will not die? You cannot guarantee that you will not be lonely in the future. That is something I will never promise my partners because I could be lying. I am just honest like that. And I have tried monogamy more than once. It never turned out too good because of promises broken. Poly is really the best place to be.

As for being alone, why did you bring that up, are your lovers just an insurance policy against loneliness? Ask your self this Is a booycall really a relationship and are you truly with that person?

It is about love and relationships that are closer than most I have ever seen. I don't just fuck. We are friends. And one of them I live with and am raising our daughter together. They are not insurance policies...they are LOVERS. Key word LOVE. Why does everyone have to make this about sex? What makes you think that is all I do with the people I am with? How can you mistake love of brains and friendship for a "bootycall"? I am VERY open minded. But the case on monogamy is closed.

@Shayrah well, have fun for then next few years. I do have a question though, you really do understand the difference between a lover and a sex partner don't you? You do realize they are not interchangeable words right? You did allude to the idea that to have a lover there has to be love. But you do realize that sex does not equal love right? You do realize love is not injected like cream into Twinkies right? Well i guess you're a big girl so do who you please.
