It's called leaving a signature mark on how each battle starts. All FF's from 1 to 6 started like this, except for 7 and beyond.

Since 9 is a tribute to older FF games, the battle theme for that game also starts this way.

Actually this is the original Mario Paint on the SNES. Your best bet is to check ebay for the necessary stuff (SNES console, game cartridge, and SNES mouse) if you really want to play the original. Mario Paint Composer is an enhanced version of the original for PC.

Final Fantasy IV was what they called it when they ported it to the PS1 and GBA, Final Fantasy II was it's original title on the SNES

The real final fantasy II was never released in the us, same goes for FFIII. Square released the IV on the SNES and renomed it to FFII since FFI was released in the Us years before. The same happened with FFVI, wich was renamed FFIII.
