Well, I would imagine that after all the years of his father's abuse (Dan belittling him and the fact that Nathan never met Dan's standards) has finally taken it's toll. And not to mention that Dan killed his brother, Nathan's uncle. I can completely understand why Nathan is being protective, for Dan is a destuctible person, and Nathan is doing what's right for both himself and his family.
Nathan is right, he wouldn't have made it as far as he did without Dan pushing him. He wouldn't have made it to the NBA, no chance in hell.
