I cannot believe the ignorance embraced by the masses! Joe was not Ali's innocent victim. Joe started it in the 1960s refusing to call Ali by his religious and Legal name Muhammad Ali. Ali was the one retaliating for the disrespect. Joe was with the other Toms, not the Black community that was fighting for freedom and rights. We were with Ali. Joe helped the unjust, racist establishment in it’s quest to deprive Ali of the dignity to be known by his own name. Ali struggled to resist and Joe...
...in siding with Ali’s evil oppressors, along with the other toming boxers Joe Louis, Floyd Patterson, &Ernie Terrell, marked himself as an Uncle Tom, & this was way back in the 1960s before Ali ever disrespected Joe. I'm glad Joe lived to get right &call Ali Muhammad Ali. Joe being an innocent victim is just nonsense. We all saw Ernie Terrell admit calling him Clay to disturb Ali before their fight. Frazier never called him Ali in the 1960s either. It was to get Ali's goat. Ali hit back. Good.
@saulhudson420 He did it to get on Ali's nerves, since Ali was serious about his name change, and Joe wanted to show him he didn't take Ali seriously.
@Schehit it was the first fight. notice frazier has hair. frazier shaved his head for the second fight, hoping that having vaseline on his head would make foreman's punches slip off his head to some extent. it's an old tactic boxers use. that's why u sometimes see the ref telling the corner-men to "wipe off some of that grease". (they often put too much on especially on the cheekbones) i only brought up his shaved head because this interview was 2 weeks after the fight and u see he has hair.
@GQbum vaseline isn't a "tactic." It's part of the sport and is essential in entertaining. Yes, I do agree that some trainers put on too much but the point of vaseline is not so much to help slip punches but more to avoid cuts. Cuts can often stop fights prematurely, especially on the eyebrow/eyelid. Cheeks don't often get cut and even if it does, the fight will more likely continue. If a fighter is cut in the eye area, that's when doctors come in and look to stop a fight.
@setsallset well yes, i agree. that is why i mentioned, that they often put too much around the cheekbones, so that the punches will slip, thereby avoiding cuts on the boney part of the face. but in this fight frazier shave his head and greased it to help the punches slip to some extent. that's a fact.
professional athletes were great role models back then. Now look what we have: Michael Vick with his dog fighting, Kobe Bryant and his cheating, FLoyd Mayweather and his gangster bull-shit... WTF?
@wedding00100 are you daft as a brush or what? Ali won the belt 3 times. You doughnut he fought real warriors and beat them he only lost when he kept at it way past his prime.
Joe Frazier was the epitome of what a GREAT fighter should be. He took on all comers win or lose, and he took his loss to Foreman like a man. He didn't run or hide from anyone as he's on this show just two weeks later. RIP Joe Frazier, a great champion and a great human being!
ali is an arrogant bastard, look at the state of him now, good though he was he lost 5 times and this greatest tag is a myth, going with stats he isnt even in the top 10 greatest boxers
@wedding00100 thats rude and wrong..in espn's 50 greatest boxers of all times list Muhammad Ali has been ranked no 2 behind Suger ray robinson..and not just that list u can find that out in many other sports bodies list.
jjs499: Not true what you said. Eddie Futch stopped that fight, because he said that he saw death in the ring, and he had that fear for Joe Frazier. Ali was ahead on all the scorecards. Eddie was protecting his fighter. But I agree with you, that fight drained them. They were never the same after that. I think Frazier retired after that and Ali should have retired too.
Former heavyweight world champion Joe Frazier was arrested in February 2004 after police responded to a 911 domestic violence call from his North Philadelphia home. When police arrived a woman, the mother of Frazier's son, answered the door. She told the police that Frazier had hit her and there were injuries to her face to back up the claim. The charges were later dropped, after the woman refused to testify against Frazier.
Frazier was funny, and pretty honest. I would have asked him who was the best he ever fought. But I disagree with Joe Frazier, the Ali fight took a lot out of him. Wars shorten fighters careers.
@tonyfressola Yeah, just ask Ali how it shortened his career, after the Manilla fight?Joe really won that fright....ALI, would not have come out if Eddie futch didnt stop it. All Joe had to do was stand up...Ali tried to stand up and collapsed in the corner when he knew they were stopping the fight. Ali was never the same after Manilla.
LMAO @ never the same - he was already well past it at that point anyway, your fool - his legs were completely shot and he was nearing his 34th birthday, and yet he still continued on for another three years.
If all frazier had to do was stand up,why didn't he? Thats right, because he quit rather than face the possibility of being knocked out.By the way,Ali did stand up...raised his arm in victory too - like a winner.
@tapiaassasin Frazier was the son of dirt poor tenant farmers and grew up in one of the most crime ridden cities in America (and I live in Philly). If the worst thing he did was slap a bitch (which hasn't been proven), then I'd say hes a great man compared to how most people would end up in the same circumstances. Your boy Ali on the other hand, called a man who never did shit to him an ugly gorilla, uncle tom, house nigger, and a bunch of other ignorant bs. Ali's the shitty human being, not Joe
I wasn't attempting to argue that my "boy" was some role model, you pig-headed bag of wind.Although if you think assaulting a woman in front of her child is somehow less of an offense than calling somebody names, then I suggest you take one hard look in the mirror, son.
I could list several other offenses and less than pleasant things that Frazier's done over the last couple of years, most of which you wouldn't even know about - which is a testament to your own ignorance.
@tapiaassasin As I just said, Frazier was extremely poor and grew up in a hard ass city notorious for its crime-rates. He was uneducated, and getting punched in the head for years didn't exactly raise his IQ any. So stop acting like hes scum for doing a few shitty things when his mind was barely there at the end of his life. You or me would be career criminals if we had been in the same situation as Frazier. Now go suck Ali's dick you ignorant pussy ass bitch.
What an absolute cop-out.Being raised in modest circumstances is absolutely no excuse for mindless thuggery, especially not towards the mother of your child right in front of her.Far more people have had a far worse upbringing than frazier, never made anywhere near the money he did,but never resorted to beating up on weaker people.
Joe was a great Champ. Whupped Ali. His style was just all wrong against vs Foreman. Let me explain. You can beat me I can beat the guy who you can't beat. Boxing is about styles and the greatest can switch up for example a boxer who can hit hard turns into the puncher when getting out boxed or a puncher that turns into a boxer when getting out slugged . Who comes to mind in your opinion? Me SRL and Sugar Ray Robinson
@tellthetruthg Ali whipped Joe 3 times. Even in defeat he whipped Joe terribly in the first fight of 1971. I'm glad Ali bested Joe 2 fights to 1, even TKOing him.
@chucknchar Exactly, his comedy is alright, not really intrigued by it too much, but the man in general is a good guy that's all im saying, peace brother.
@BiggieSmalls11111 It still bothers me that those women accused him of sexual harrassment and maybe sexual assalts a few years back. I really hope those accusations were false and the women were just gold digging cunts. Wishful thinking on my part because I too think Bill Cosby is great.
smokin joe sure didn't have the right style for george. taking a couple to get in close isn't good when the other guy throws wrecking balls. At 2:15 he says what all the guys who knew him now say. He treated everyone well and never asked to be treated special despite everything he accomplished.
and he is the one who helped Ali financially when ali was broke.I suppose the fall out with ali was so monumental that even my late grand father was telling me the story back in the late 80s when I was a kid .
LOL this mr perry rice guy is some dick ... ali was a racist ma'fucker himself , frazier was working in corn fields and shit since the age of 7.. hes more black then ali and knows about struggle more then ali .. plus frazier is better then clay ,, just saying
@MrPs3Addict So sharecroppin in a cornfield defines who's black? That stereotype has not been true since slavery;most Black people do better. Why hate Ali's father for being talented &intelligent enough to be a self employed homeowner raising his family in a MIDDLE CLASS BLACK NEIGHBORHOOD? Ali's history is a lesson in struggle for his &other people's rights;he's renowned for it,especially the struggle to be recognized by his religious &legal name Muhammad Ali;onlyToms &racist call him clay.
The boxer's in the 70's era were such larger than life characters.Joe was modest, down to earth and able to he deal with defeats in an amusing sometimes self - effacing way.
Ali may have been a better boxer in the ring, but Frazier,Foreman,Louis,Marciano were better and humbler men outside of the ring. I have no respect for braggers full of spiritual pride who act like they are God and the world is supposed to worship them as God the Greatest.
Joe Frazier,George Chuvalo, and George Foreman belong in a courage class above draft dodger big mouth blowhorn Muhammed Ali.RIP Smokin' Joe.
Chickenshit big mouth Muhammed Ali was so afraid of George Foreman he kept trying to delay fighting against him by having the fight match cancelled for a later date in 1974.
George Foreman in his Prime the Greatest Heavyweight Boxer Ever. And I'm a Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano Fan. George Foreman said George Chuvalo had the hardest solid iron head of any boxer he ever faced.
Never saw the passion, hatred, and ability by Frazier in any fight after that fight. The hate Ali for being a draft dodger and deserting his fellow country men. Frazier literally said he was going to literally die winning that fight he hated Ali so much. That hatred was never seen by Frazier against any other boxer he faced. Not even against Foreman.
Frazier should have retired after his first fight against Ali. He almost died remaining in bed at a hospital for one month. He never was the same level of fighter after that match in his career. Thrilla in Manilla was way overrated hyped compared to the True Fight Of The Century March 8th 1971.
to the man who beat my favorite fighter[ali] RIP CHAMP,,,JOE FRAIZER,,,I HAVE PICTURES OF ME AND JOE TAKEN AT A BOXING CONVENTION,,,THANKS JOE FOR THE PICS A GREAT WARRIOR,,SLEEP TIGHT CHAMP!!!!!
Bill Cosby?!?! This must have been the greatest day in Bills life, hanging aroud with the True Champ and a real gentleman, Joe Frazier! Rest in piece Joe, You are my hero...
Just a loveable guy, so classy. The quote "I treat everyone like i want to be treated" says it all, coming from the greatest of all time is just so humble and awesome. RIP Smokin' Joe.
Wow some of you are childish. Somebody goves there opinion and its not the same as yours so you call them an idiot, retard and tell them to go fuck themselves.. Terrible!
@ngonzoak Do you want to suck my dick or at least see my hairy dick?" I wave my genitals your way. I'll fuck you till you love me faggot?" Iron Mike Tyson
@SayUno That's exactly why Joe suffered the sting of rejection, &was called an uncle tom, which only hurt himself &his kids. He committed social suicide callin Ali Clay: We followed Ali's struggle on the news everyday as he insisted that racist whites who called him Clay recognize his right to be called by his religious &legal name Muhammad Ali; we rooted for Ali to win, then we see Frazier on the news, siding with the racist whites calling him Clay too.So Joe was seen as an Uncle Tom. Not Good.
@MrPerryrice man ur just a lil pussy keyboardwarrior stop talking about joe u u lil fagget and dont call him uncle tom u cracker he was more black than every black in usa, look at where he grow up u fag
If I were Joe I would have retired at this time. He still had a lot of money and he would drive Ali nuts by never giving him a rematch. All he had to do was ignore Ali's taunts and Ali would never get the satisfaction of beating Frazier even when he won back the title against Foreman.
@yoyo2ma Man you're crazy. A champion's goal is not driving somebody nuts. A champions has that desire to be the best, by beating the best. Well, you would not know that, as you probably don't box, because what you're saying is ridiculous.
@michaelyouth You're an idiot. . Joe was no longer a champ at this time retard he already lost to Foreman. And you dont seem to know the deep hatred Joe had for Ali. A champs job? He wasn't the champ anymore at this point so go FUCK YOURSELF!
@yoyo2ma God you're stupid. His ''hatred'' towards Ali, should have been the drive for him to whop him a second time as there was a lot of controversy. That's why Joe went in a rematch. Because that's what a champion wants, even though he was not the heavyweight champ anymore..
@michaelyouth Hey dickhead he really did hate Ali as his kids were tormented and called Uncle Tom Jr.(You don't seem to know you're boxing history.) And like I said he was no longer the champ and he had the money to retire. So he should have retired before giving Ali a rematch as it would have drove Ali nuts like I said but I had to repeat it to you RETARD. I hope you get run over by a truck or wake up with terminal cancer and die asshole!
@michaelyouth I don't think your's could be any lower asshole. Did you know Frazier lost to Ali in the 2nd and 3rd fights Sherlock? That's why I said he shouldn't have given him a rematch because Frazier's still devasted today about them. And physically he's paid a price for continuing to box after losing to Foreman you FUCKEN DUMB ASS!
You say I'm a hater of Ali??? Im no hater of Ali, Fact is he is probably the greatest heavy weight of all time, no doubt. If not in boxing terms certainly in entertainment terms. I love Ali for what he brought to the ring but there is no doubt he overstepped the mark in his attack on Frazier. Take a look at "Thriller in Manila" documentary and then tell me that there was nothing in his attack on Frazier. Read Joe's autobiography and tell me it was acceptable. And keep your hair piece on
@choloman72 Man, please consider how hateful and ill your comment reveals you to be; hate is what afflicts Joe and you see where it got him today don't you? Look at how jealous and hateful you are that Ali is materially more comfortable and successful than Joe. Do you wish poverty upon Ali, on top of his medical condition too? Please seek out some sort of moral and emotional help, because you are ill, then learn to wish the best for both these wonderful human beings who gave us all they have.
@MrPerryrice man you took my comment WAY too seriously. What I meant was it is too bad how joe turned out because he was such a great boxer and seemed like a good guy. I by no means said i wished Ali was poor because beleive me I respect the hell out of him. I just wished they both turned out rich and Joe still had his fortunte, and they can both forgive each other for what happend in the past. I think you need to calm down a little bit because what i was trying to say was the COMPLETE OPPOSITE
Joe is my second favorite heavyweight because I loved to see and hear him in and out of the ring; he was pure class, and I have witnessed him commit only one undignified classless act: His insistence on disrespecting and ridiculing Ali's religious name by refusing to acknowledge it and calling him instead by Ali's rejected slave name Clay, an affront to Ali's religion. Only racist and uncle Toms refused to recognize his name, and I always felt this was beneath Joe's dignity. Yet he kept it up.
@MrPerryrice i think you are just too stupid and dumb to say that of him. you have just also in an undinified manner call him an Uncle Tom. may God have mercy on you irredemable soul
@nestkojex22 Everything I said is true;it really happened, sorry if U can't comprehend that Joe committed this socially, morally, religiously &politically incorrect act, &continued to do so decades later. Dude, it was a blunder, it cost Joe much support, respect & acceptance here &all over the world because it caused people to chose sides in favor of Ali's rights to be called by his religious name.He did it to himself by first calling Ali out of his name &the Black community punished him for it.
My gosh...Ali apologized. What more do you want, Joe? Ali will always be the greatest and the better man. And just by calling him Clay, I will not feel sorry that he called u a gorilla.
Ali would be the greatest?Maybe the greatest big mouth, but not the greatest boxer.Ali and Joe were equals in the ring.I can't even compare joe to Ali as men.Joe is aproud, n ice and humble man .Clay , since his name is Clay, has always been disrespectful,a betrayer and he lacked respect to a black brother by calling him a gorilla
Joe is the champion of the heart, of poors , of africans worldwide and will always be remembered like this
@amattheafican Hey, first of all, I am an African and Joe was never my champion. You can shout all you want, put your head in the pocket but it will never take away the fact that Ali was and is a better man! The man changed his name to Muhammad Ali and he expected everybody to respect his wishes and call him that. You are talking like an idiot here, u don`t remember the times when all this happened. I do not have time to teach u anything, it is obvious u don`t know shit.
LOL this mr perry rice guy is some dick ... ali was a racist ma'fucker himself , frazier was working in corn fields and shit since the age of 7.. hes more black then ali and knows about struggle more then ali .. plus frazier is better then clay ,, just saying
MrPs3Addict 4 months ago
@MrPs3Addict So sharecroppin in a cornfield defines who's black? That stereotype has not been true since slavery;most Black people do better. Why hate Ali's father for being talented &intelligent enough to be a self employed homeowner raising his family in a MIDDLE CLASS BLACK NEIGHBORHOOD? Ali's history is a lesson in struggle for his &other people's rights;he's renowned for it,especially the struggle to be recognized by his religious &legal name Muhammad Ali;onlyToms &racist call him clay.

BBQFanNo1 4 months ago
Never saw the passion, hatred, and ability by Frazier in any fight after that fight. The hate Ali for being a draft dodger and deserting his fellow country men. Frazier literally said he was going to literally die winning that fight he hated Ali so much. That hatred was never seen by Frazier against any other boxer he faced. Not even against Foreman.
BBQFanNo1 4 months ago
Frazier should have retired after his first fight against Ali. He almost died remaining in bed at a hospital for one month. He never was the same level of fighter after that match in his career. Thrilla in Manilla was way overrated hyped compared to the True Fight Of The Century March 8th 1971.

I love how he always called him Clay
SayUno 4 months ago
@SayUno That's exactly why Joe suffered the sting of rejection, &was called an uncle tom, which only hurt himself &his kids. He committed social suicide callin Ali Clay: We followed Ali's struggle on the news everyday as he insisted that racist whites who called him Clay recognize his right to be called by his religious &legal name Muhammad Ali; we rooted for Ali to win, then we see Frazier on the news, siding with the racist whites calling him Clay too.So Joe was seen as an Uncle Tom. Not Good.

If I were Joe I would have retired at this time. He still had a lot of money and he would drive Ali nuts by never giving him a rematch. All he had to do was ignore Ali's taunts and Ali would never get the satisfaction of beating Frazier even when he won back the title against Foreman.
yoyo2ma 5 months ago
@yoyo2ma Man you're crazy. A champion's goal is not driving somebody nuts. A champions has that desire to be the best, by beating the best. Well, you would not know that, as you probably don't box, because what you're saying is ridiculous.
michaelyouth 5 months ago
@michaelyouth You're an idiot. . Joe was no longer a champ at this time retard he already lost to Foreman. And you dont seem to know the deep hatred Joe had for Ali. A champs job? He wasn't the champ anymore at this point so go FUCK YOURSELF!
yoyo2ma 4 months ago
@yoyo2ma God you're stupid. His ''hatred'' towards Ali, should have been the drive for him to whop him a second time as there was a lot of controversy. That's why Joe went in a rematch. Because that's what a champion wants, even though he was not the heavyweight champ anymore..
YOU
ARE
SO
FUCKING
DUMB
michaelyouth 4 months ago
@michaelyouth Hey dickhead he really did hate Ali as his kids were tormented and called Uncle Tom Jr.(You don't seem to know you're boxing history.) And like I said he was no longer the champ and he had the money to retire. So he should have retired before giving Ali a rematch as it would have drove Ali nuts like I said but I had to repeat it to you RETARD. I hope you get run over by a truck or wake up with terminal cancer and die asshole!
yoyo2ma 4 months ago
@yoyo2ma If I had a lower IQ, I could enjoy this conversation.
michaelyouth 4 months ago
@michaelyouth I don't think your's could be any lower asshole. Did you know Frazier lost to Ali in the 2nd and 3rd fights Sherlock? That's why I said he shouldn't have given him a rematch because Frazier's still devasted today about them. And physically he's paid a price for continuing to box after losing to Foreman you FUCKEN DUMB ASS!
yoyo2ma 4 months ago
You say I'm a hater of Ali??? Im no hater of Ali, Fact is he is probably the greatest heavy weight of all time, no doubt. If not in boxing terms certainly in entertainment terms. I love Ali for what he brought to the ring but there is no doubt he overstepped the mark in his attack on Frazier. Take a look at "Thriller in Manila" documentary and then tell me that there was nothing in his attack on Frazier. Read Joe's autobiography and tell me it was acceptable. And keep your hair piece on
brew667 5 months ago
it sucks how joe turned out and ali is still very rich. joe lives in his boxing gym in the philadelphia ghetto and ali probably lives in a mansion
choloman72 5 months ago
@choloman72 Man, please consider how hateful and ill your comment reveals you to be; hate is what afflicts Joe and you see where it got him today don't you? Look at how jealous and hateful you are that Ali is materially more comfortable and successful than Joe. Do you wish poverty upon Ali, on top of his medical condition too? Please seek out some sort of moral and emotional help, because you are ill, then learn to wish the best for both these wonderful human beings who gave us all they have.
MrPerryrice 5 months ago
@MrPerryrice man you took my comment WAY too seriously. What I meant was it is too bad how joe turned out because he was such a great boxer and seemed like a good guy. I by no means said i wished Ali was poor because beleive me I respect the hell out of him. I just wished they both turned out rich and Joe still had his fortunte, and they can both forgive each other for what happend in the past. I think you need to calm down a little bit because what i was trying to say was the COMPLETE OPPOSITE
choloman72 5 months ago
@choloman72 OK, I stand corrected for assuming your comment was negative against Ali.
MrPerryrice 5 months ago
@MrPerryrice Quit sucking Ali's dick.
BBQFanNo1 4 months ago
Joe is my second favorite heavyweight because I loved to see and hear him in and out of the ring; he was pure class, and I have witnessed him commit only one undignified classless act: His insistence on disrespecting and ridiculing Ali's religious name by refusing to acknowledge it and calling him instead by Ali's rejected slave name Clay, an affront to Ali's religion. Only racist and uncle Toms refused to recognize his name, and I always felt this was beneath Joe's dignity. Yet he kept it up.
MrPerryrice 5 months ago
@MrPerryrice i think you are just too stupid and dumb to say that of him. you have just also in an undinified manner call him an Uncle Tom. may God have mercy on you irredemable soul
nestkojex22 4 months ago
@nestkojex22 Everything I said is true;it really happened, sorry if U can't comprehend that Joe committed this socially, morally, religiously &politically incorrect act, &continued to do so decades later. Dude, it was a blunder, it cost Joe much support, respect & acceptance here &all over the world because it caused people to chose sides in favor of Ali's rights to be called by his religious name.He did it to himself by first calling Ali out of his name &the Black community punished him for it.

BadSsen 7 months ago
@BadSsen
Joe is the champion of the heart, of poors , of africans worldwide and will always be remembered like this
amattheafican 7 months ago
@amattheafican Hey, first of all, I am an African and Joe was never my champion. You can shout all you want, put your head in the pocket but it will never take away the fact that Ali was and is a better man! The man changed his name to Muhammad Ali and he expected everybody to respect his wishes and call him that. You are talking like an idiot here, u don`t remember the times when all this happened. I do not have time to teach u anything, it is obvious u don`t know shit.
