In my honest opinion, I love toyota. But when both honda and toyota are stock and untouched. Honda will win. When you tune and get serious with both. Honda won't stand a chance.
reading these comments just lets me know how little i actually know about cars lol. i have a 97 corolla stock. so whatever type of engine that is i want to change it to one that is a little faster, or maybe just build this one up. Any car intellectuals care to give advice?
@Martinez265 Couldn't have said it better, I love it when I beat sohc vtec homo's yelling out VTEC YEOO, when i fly past them their faces are priceless.
i had an 88 ae92 gt-s with a stock smallport block that i slapped under the stock bigport head, and added an intake and a wrapped obx header, and advanced the fuel on my MAF. i lost to a dc integra ls with a b16 sir swap that was cammed and chipped running on 93 octane. he pulled on me and his rear was at my front bumper by the time we were clocked.
Yeah the 4afc and 4afe are the same just one is injected and the other is carbie fed, the 16v 4age is the semi performance engine of the 4a series also having different range of performance in the 16v 4age from 86Kw to the smallport 100Kw. Then the 16v 4agze comes in also having a different range of performance ranging roughly from 120Kw to 140Kw, then finally the 20v 4age NA run engine having a close range of performance from either the silver top and the black top at 135kw to 145kw
You are so wrong!!! 16v are not "semi performance" engine... they where the performance option at the time they were sold and can achieve really impressive Hp with a bit of tweaking and money. 20v are more powerfull as is, stock, but have other limitations... The only differences between the different 4age engines (redtop, bluetop, silvertop and blacktop) is their year of manufacturing and the technology involved... Not to forget the few 4AZGEs that were S/C engines...
I hope nobody comes here for tech help. Some of you guys are completely lost. 4AFE is not a carbed motor. It is a DOHC but that is what the F stands for. The E stands for the fuel injected. The A is the series of motor. The 4 is the foruth generation of the A series motor. The difference between a F and a G is the F is fuel economic version where the G is performance rated. 2J in a FWD Corolla??? WTF?!?!?!
@Obsession912 4A-FE is a single cam injected 1600cc in the puss corollas. 4A-GE is the injected or carbed 1600 twin cam modelled on the Ford cosworth BDA 1600 twin cam. Also my gti does waay better on gas than my missus' pussy corolla 4A-FE single cam. Same block different head etc. 4A-FE = 500 ks per tank on 91 octane, 4A-GE = 620 ks per tank 96 octane, and 4Age is wild, whereas 4Afe is mild.
@invadertopak My missus has a single cam injected 4afe in her corolla and I have a twin cam 16v injected 4age, nevermind googling it, I drive them both, service them both etc, google that! :]
@justythrasher well that i have never heard of, but here we've got only twin cam 4afe... which i've seen alot... you might be right but am talking solid too... don't know whats going on...
Kdcr1 Needs To fuckin read up. S2k Keeps up with a 2jz, Supras Come from the Factory Turbo while almost all of hondas Cars Come NA, Including the S2000. so what the supra needs a Turbo, the S2k Does without! dont get me wrong, i like the supra...but dont ragg on the All motor S2k that Redlines 9000 from the factory.
well, actually, it takes a lot of money to get serious with toyota 4age's.. what is considered inferior to the b16b is actually not considering the 4age can be built beyond the b's limitations
@ae92guy I had a $age in the past and you're so right...even with a 4age Blacktop of 170hp, in a race i was between a Dx and a Si Ek Civics...I never saw this engine over 250hp even modified with turbo...Not a great engine at all...
Seriously Toyota aren't in the game for performance...
@Ebbsilen yea man. if you just want out of the box power, then the blacktop or silvertop is an easy choice. but if you really want a serious n/a 4age, the 16v smallport block with the bigport head is the way to go. there was group A 20v engines, sure. but its more practical to build a 16v. the problem is though, when you build a 16v 240hp formula spec, its just not going to last long. and its pointless to build one unless you are going to be racing it for money, bc it cost @ least 4k to build
@ae92guy Anyway if we want performance from a 4Cyl...i would definitively go with a Suzuki or a Honda. Suzuki G13B are the greatest 4cyl i seen in my life. The price is ridiculous, the potential is huge, it's really economic...only problem...the torque is kind of timid hehe. Anyway Suzuki made better with the R13B but at 2500 unities...you have to open your wallet like crazy!
Personally my 3Vzfe swap starts this winter in my 97 Corolla...i think it's the best power/potential for cash for it.
@Ebbsilen the g13b is nice, but honestly, its like a mini 4age bigport head/smallport block build. while it has nice high rpm potential, it's 1.3 displacement will be a problem in a car that weighs 2200 lbs. it would be a great engine for a little hatchback. im not much on the swifts though. doesnt the cappucino have one?
@ae92guy The displacement is a problem for sure because of the torque...but to compare a 4Age with a G13B is kind of ironic. On the dyno a 4age Redtop have the same power than the G13B on the wheels, something like 110whp. 300cc more and not more powerfull...hmmm. For potential i already saw a 281whp n/a G13b but never saw a n/a 4age with more than 200whp. For turboed one, already saw 760whp g13b but never saw 4age over 400whp when turboed...
@EvripidesCelicakias 240hp at the flywheel for a 1.6 with so much stuff in it is still a joke. And anyway it's Toyota spaec and Toyota speacs are ALWAYS overestimated. Go to the dyno this engine will push something like 170whp so maybe 200hp. Blacktop is supposed to be 170hp but roll as fast as a 125hp one so it's probably the same with the overpirced Atlantic version.
@ae92guy To had a Blacktop in my previous car, it's really economic and funny to drive but to find oem parts to fix it or the price of everything about it it's totally disproportionned compare to suzuki parts. By the way excuse me my english is probably not perfect, i speak French usualy.
Retardé toi même, je gages que t'as même pas assez de culture pour comprendre ce que je te répond en ce moment, ni ce qui va suivre. Drai utteruk sjvan els ty nurrmeptos kalctiss ejt lol.
@justythrasher For your information it's not hungarian and yes a G13B could be twincharged but why would i twincharge it when the G13B can reach almost 300whp atmospheric when well modded. Anyway i won't continue to answer you, you are obviously another Toyota fanatic that never owned or tried anything else. Bnutsat ty!
Not sure about where you're from, but here in Australia it came with the 16v 4AGE DOHC fuel injected 1.6L 4 cylinder which developed just over 100kW at the flywheel. No single carb under the hood of my AE92...
@TheMaDDeSTMaN Here in Canada the basic engine from 88 to 89 was a carburated 4afe and had injection from 90 to 92 (and 93 for the 4wd wagon during the E100 generation debut)
@Ebbsilen So you mean the basic engine from 88 to 89 was the 4A-FC (the carby econ model), no such thing as a "carburated 4afe", and then from 90 to 92 the basic engine was the 4A-FE.
All 4th generation A series engines, F meaning the DOHC narrow angle valve econ model (So 4A-F) then the last letter standing for what fuel delivery - C being carby (4A-FC) and E being Fuel injected (4A-FE), those codes are used by toyota the same the world over...
are you sure that had the 4AGE and not the 4AFE?? because ive beaten plenty of NA civics in my 4AGE 1989 Corolla GTS hell and tegs too... i mean its not the fastest car on the line but get into some high speed corners and its on.
toyotas were cool during the 80s when it comes to NA. no question. but at the turn of the 90s till the present day Hondas have taken over the mantle simple as that.
shut up honda sucks ass nothing is better than a toyota supra, honda cant compare to that shit even the 96 supra kicks a honda s2000 honda's most decent car. ae86 are the shit, although i got a 4age myself
- wow, nothing is better than a supra. hmm, let me see...GTR...NSX...RX-7.
- i'm talking about NA so keep it relevant if you want to reply to my comment
- the supra being compared to an s2k. you
mean the 3L inline 6 twin turbo supra is that pathetic? i hope not.
- ae86 is "the shit". you watch too much initial d. its a cool car but sorry in real life the silvias are the preferred and dominant model in drift events.
every kind of car can be fast the main problem is how many money do u have for mods. i love toyota but honda engines also sounds great. want classical fast car? buy f40 lm and enjoy!
Hey... when you know anything about a subject... don't post! VVT acts only on the timing! Vtec changes the lift of the valves. These two systems are completely different. Only systems that are similar between Honda and Toyota are Toyota VVTL-i (notice the L for lift) and Honda E-VTEC. They both work on Lift and duration but VVTL-i is way more precise as it is continuously adjusting the timing vs Hondas that has 3 stages (0, 25 and 50 deg.) switching at fixed RPMs.
BTW, I am building a 1992 toyota Corolla with 4AGE 20V VVT and I can bet anything that i'll beat any N.A. Civic in town...and it is a 4 door!
Properly installed this engine rocks... I don't think the one on this video shows the real power of this kind of engine. 6spd tranny on it, means it's a blacktop with LSD... This driver sucks! He can't pull alf of what this powerplant can give!!! Have a nice day!
@djnn22 6 speed dont mean its lsd c160-12c gear box has lsd c160-12a & c160-13a do not c160-12c only came in bzr so your comment that 6 speed means lsd could not be more wrong
@hamish48273 You are absolutely right... I didn't know at that time... The shop that imports 4AGE 20V engines in my region told me that.. but in fact, THEY import only the LSD version, but there are other versions!
Oh... and another thing.... Silvertop is VVT while Blacktop is VVT-i... VVT is an on-off variable timing system (15 deg advance as long as I can remember) and VVT-i has 2 positions for timing advance (15 and 30 deg... not sure at all!)
Umm get a real AE92 on there im sure it would keep up with those hondas.... the 4AGE will keep up with those... as you can see the AE92 was the 4dr get the 2dr GTS version and try that again.
Probably just a mock up model made by toyota N.Z. We have an ae92 3door Gti which is redtop 4age with no jap stuff except rev limiter, nice standard.
