  • Looks like JKD!

  • @RenHoek20886 Wing Chun

  • I really like this teacher! "you don't live in a box" well said, lol!!! So what's the name of this school?? I'd like to apply! You really should post the name, it's not smart networking to not do so. I love the streetfighting interest, like Bruce that's important. But you really should be using gloves so that you can feel what it means to apply impact, if the blow doesn't have power the whole thing is useless. With gloves+gear U can apply 50-75% power.

  • @ComicBookGo That looks like a Wing Chun Sifu with the last name Redmond, who has a school in New Jersey.

  • @TheRiobezerko That is me. I teach at my kung fu brother's school in NJ. My school is in NYC Chinatown.

  • @sifupr Thanks! As an aside, I know I could just call the NJ school, but I kinda wish they had a schedule up on their/your website. I know if I call I'll probably get voice mail and we'll end up playing phone tag. lol I am interested in training their, particularly after seeing the practical nature in which you teach in this video. Respect.

  • @TheRiobezerko If you go to the traditionalwingchun site you'll see the class schedule.

  • what bull, so when he pulls back his arm from a jab he just stays there with his arms up waiting for an attack? that would not happen this isnt realisitc, he would come at you with multiple blows from all sorts of angles, come on guys...

  • @neilawuk I unlike many others use my real identity here. That way I'm held responsible for my posts. But some people who have no backbone prefer to sling insults anonymously like little girls who don't have to cojones to enter a full contact event themselves. We do fight and there are many vids us our guys fighting on this and my wckwoon channel. Any clip I put up I can do against a resisting opponent.

  • @neilawuk It's not bull it's basic stuff. Once you have a hand on his arm you control it until they break contact. By stepping to the side it would take the opponent time to turn and engage with the free hand. It's hard to explain without showing someone. Trouble is until they commit to a strike it can be hard. In class I throw combinations of hooks, jabs and uppercuts all the time we don't simply throw one punch and stand there. Is it not obvious these people are learning still.

  • Or i just move to the side and give him a cross and hear his exuses... *sigh*

  • good video

  • People are so quick to judge. The fighting range created through traditional Wing Chun gives its user the ability to accept and destroy the what ifs. Your opponent will create his own demise if he doesnt follow our path.

  • In response to meta cool, Im not aware of anything of the sort all i know is we train sensitivity way beyond normal so that when we make a conection with our hands wrist arm legs etc our body instinctively moves into the right position.

question for the video, why are you using a bong sau as an entry techique, thats very risky if the person receiving has skill.

I was always under the impression bong sau was more of an emergency technique. but then again i suppose this depends on body size

  • @Cal1skater Our guys are able to pull it off in full contact events. Please look at some of our fight clips.

  • @sifupr ur clips are sick

  • @Cal1skater ur a beast im just learning wing chun its hard and easy im train with wrist weights is that smart to do to get striking speed up?

  • Opponent should just punch threw the bong. It would be easy because you're doing it really wrong. Just bad.

  • @zxcv73 Thanks for your comment. We want the person to attempt to punch through the bong. We use this successfully in full contact competitions so why change it?

  • @sifupr

Really? Where is this video, I'd like to see that work for sure. And if it actually works than why not use it? But I really doubt it. Can you give me a link to the video of this working?

  • @zxcv73 Well there are maybe two or three on my uploaded clips. Just look for Lei Tai Teaser and anything related to Lei Tai. If you can't find them I can message you the actual links since you can't add links here. I also have some of of recent manup standup fights from NYC but the guys didn't use a bong sao close in those clips.

  • @zxcv73 I just sent 6 links to your channel email.

  • @sifupr

Thanks for that, it's interesting. But none of the videos shows them stepping forward at the attacker before he attacks. They are using it sort of how it should be used. As an attack comes in you bong it off line and step or shift. Give me the minutes of the video of where they are attacking moving forward and closing the gap with the bong. But nice videos anyway. Where do you buy your head gear?

  • @zxcv73 Go to Wing Chun in full contact fights. You'll see the bong used to attack there.

  • @sifupr

What I meant by punch through was to actually have someone sticking to you with the punch, not just throwing it out there. You moved for one, so with that alone you don't even need to bong if there punch is aimed at where you were. My school has tested this for a long time, and there is just no backing force with a bong on the front stepping side. If the attacker kept their elbow down with force, you would get pushed back. But cool videos anyway.

  • @zxcv73 I wouldn't get pushed back if my contact reflexes were up to par. The clips shows me teaching a class that had beginners so the drill was static. I do have clips of our guys fighting real opponents.

  • Sifu Redmond you are a true combat master indeed, but I am very curious however, on the higher-up echelons of Wing Chun training, are you taught any super-normal abilities?

cause for e.g Tai Chi masters(not the average practitioners in parks) but the highly accomplished ones have and possess some EXTRAORDINARY abilities, some of them are able to slow down time within the field of their own bodies so no matter how fast your strikes are or what strategy you take they will counter you with ease

  • @Metacool416

lol, show me these "masters" please. Sure it's fun to believe in that stuff, but it's just fiction like comic books.

  • no, those High-Level Masters really do exist, but to my knowledge they can't be found in secular-world martial arts, most of them isolate and train themselves in the mountains and forests of China, and the reason why they do this(from what I've understood) is because those really high-level abilities they've cultivated can't disturb the state ordinary human society, but from what I've heard they do(but rarely) go into the mainstream populace, but not to show off, I don't think they're allowed to

  • @Metacool416 That is such a fantasy. Many great Chinese martial artists were well known. Some like Wong Fei Hung and Leung Jan had clinics to help people. They weren't hiding in the mountains like something out of a Shaw Brothers Kung Fu movie.

  • This is great, where is your school located?

  • @llamasrage I'm at 64 E. 4th St. 4th Floor NYC Sats. :330 - 5:30pm

  • @TheSenseofTouch This is the Yip Man stance. Look at some WSL clips.

  • @sifupr das koo

  • @TheSenseofTouch This is the Yip Man stance. Watch Wong Shun Leung clips

  • good drill!! but try it again with the other guy swinging at 50% speed... then turn up the speed as your students master the drill. Also, have your student stick more... they leave themself open when they punch too much.

  • Never commit both hands to one! 0:07 is the moment when doing this at full contact, the "Wing Chun" guy gets hit by the cross. Despite this being the most likely attack at this point, we see multiple 'options' that often require the hand to move dramatic away from being able to deal with the cross i.e. 0:11 hand low also 0:31 vunerable to laap sau! Enemy stance is never destablised, I realise its a demo but what ur doing is ever so slightly wrong, not saying never, just that it has poor odds.

  • @Donkyfishy I respect your opinions but what I was demonstrating works against resisting opponents bent on wrecking you. I know because I competed and our students compete in full contact events. Other than fighting in the street the best way to test a martial art is to try it out. Then you'll know what works and what doesn't. You can see out guys fight on this channel and wckwoon

  • @sifupr

Good on you for doing full contact and testing your stuff, I have seen some of these vids that you mention, and I can see you guys using the bong sau as you demo here. My only issue is they seem to get hit quite often when using this entry, although they then go on to win the fight, I cant help but think their victory comes from successful use of other skills/techinques rather than this one. Respect to you for the mature reply, what you say about testing is quite true.

  • @Donkyfishy As a former full contact fighter and present trainer of WC fighters who are winning in Lei Tai and other full contact events I have to say that your observations are not based on what we are able to pull off. But thanks anyway.

  • i wanna learn Wing Chun more than any other style.

  • This is actually rather brilliant, and I'm surprised more people don't see the value in this. Thanks a lot for sharing.

  • Thanks, I get lots of flack for this clip but the technique has saved my butt in many full contact fights. You can see our students using it in a full contact event if you type in Lei Tai teaser on youtube.

  • Good video,thanks!

  • A Bong sau isnt an attack , it's an attack that failed ,so why are you attacking with a bong sau?

  • Who ever told you that you can't use a bong to attack? I've been stuyding WC since 1970 from many WC Sifus including 4 direct students of Yip Man. Bong CAN be used as an attack as you can see in our full contact events. If it works in full contact then it works;-)

  • @Insanitea totally agree with you insanitea i personally believe you and i are tought well in that respect...its secondary reaction not an attack...and besides im never tought to "move in" 1. its self defence and 2. you lose the element of suprise.

why move in with your arm folded when you can punch and remove the opponents arms with it? even if you CAN somehow use it as an attack? we're talkin life and death here

  • Again I say. If you don't compete against resisting opponents from other styles you'll never know what works for real. WE FIGHT so I know what works. It's easy to criticize something from the sidelines. We have regular full contact events so when I see posts like this I know the person isn't fighting.

  • looking good :)

  • whoa that chik is quik what level is she?

  • She's a level 5 under Master Keith Mazza.

  • quick not really, bridged yeah but still a mile off hitting the opponent, range is out, need to get closer, same goes for the instructor.

  • @247wingchun It was a demo. I, the instructor was a full contact fighter and I teach fighters now. Watch out fight clips.

  • @247wingchun We compete in full contact events and are winning. So I think we know the difference between a demo and real contact.

  • ooer she's a cutie

  • Always good info from Sifu Redmond

  • Some of Yip Man's students were taught 50-50 stance.

  • Many students of Yip Man made modifications to their Wing Chun, like Chris Chan Wing Chun

  • YM made modifications to WC he learned from his seniors. Wong Shun Leung said don't be a slave to WC. WC is a Kuen, not a Pai. It's designed to be modified to the times. After all, it an eclectic style from the beginning.

  • The lower body is exposed for damage. Such as low knee kicks or kicks to the pelvic area.

  • Not really. This is just a demo. I would be able to check any low kicks once I have contact with the arm. We do eye exercises to detect arm movement. If I can train my eye to see an arm I can see easily detect a leg which is a lot larger limb. Also, with a relentless forward attack a low kick wouldn't be very effective.

  • Eye training? This is WIng Chun. Sticky Hands practice ensures you can communicate with the opponent. Have a dialogue. Dialogue not monologue.

In martial art detection really borders on precognition or ESP if you will. Vision is deception.

  • The best way to test a martial art is to fight against resisting opponents bent on crushing you. It's not logical to look for street fights so the next best thing is to compete. I have competed in full contact event using Wing Chun and so have many of the students in our school. We have some champion fighters so I'll stick with what works.

  • Our students winning full contact events should be some proof.

  • thts fukin gd could anybody tell us whos he is

  • Wow, great sifu, good school! Nice job guys!

  • Good example of adapting without having to change the substance of what you have learned. people think by adapting you need to learn boxing but what this sifu did adapt to the situation. If the man doesn't want to leave his hand up fine then he moves in. If he wants to switch to another that's ok.

  • This is excellent instruction. We're lucky that it was provided to us.

  • That girl is a cutie....she can kick my butt anyday! Where is this school anyway?

  • i've been waiting to see someone use this against a someone in a streetfight position. thanks!

  • Great stuff Sifu Redmond...

  • That woman could whoop my ass! Nicely done lol

  • What?? Finally, some quality wing chun videos! whoa. Thnx for the upload sifu Rdman;)

  • awesome vid!! good instructor

  • Good stuff!

  • "We don't live in a box" Lol nicely said Master Redmond!

  • Master Redmond is a "true" Master I love to hear him teach. He is very insightful and speaks to things from a fighters perspective as well as an artist. I wish I could have him around all the time.

    Sifu Moore

  • does this instructor have any books or dvds available

  • Nice sifu !!!Timing Positioning and Sensitivity !I rate this personally a 5 star for a good quick lesson in T.W.C..

  • great stuff Master Redmond!! I hope this inspires people to think ..."outside the box"(get it?lol.) please, keep 'em comming. your loyal student/son , Si-Fu Rahsun Herkul.(bow)
