Playing good cards puts you on equal footing with other people who are playing good cards. Being skillful makes you a winner. That may include playing good cards other people don't know about, or even playing cards that are only good because other people are playing certain good cards.

All of the "cheating" isn't always to prove, but sitting on the back of chairs so you can get a free peek at your opponents hand is easy to prove because we've seen it. I was there at PTLA when he was told to sit in his chair by a judge and he would eventually go sit back up on the chairs back like a vulture.

How can anyone defend that sort of unsportsmanlike behavior?

He was supposedly known for shuffling shadily, and known for being hyper aggressive within games towards his opponent. (not as in attacking with creatures, but y attacking with words.)

A lot of his activities in the day, wouldn't hold up in tournament magic today.
