@VivaLaVerde Because he wasn't "dead" he just had no pulse or respiratory rate. They aren't dead until they have no pupil response, which will happen after you have no pulse or respiration. And the point of CPR is to keep the pulse and respiration going until you can restart them or they spontaneously restart, so that they don't get to the brain dead thing. And CPR is for cardiac arrest which usually happens after a heart attack. Heart attack is the perfect time for CPR.
@kathrynsue1986 They were starting to develop different resuscitation techniques, but they weren't widespread, the scientific understanding and evidence was still loose, and CPR as we know it today wasn't really around until the 1940s or 1950s.

at 5:10 who is that in the reflection of the window standing behind Michaela? looks like a man in a dark suit..... you can see him standing there and then it looks like he turns to walk away... doesnt fit in with the scene... just curious.

She was just on House not too long ago. Great acting as always....don't know if she regrets it, but I definitely wish she would have stayed...the rest of the series wasn't the same.
