Either one, convincing fan-made material leaked out, or two, the original plan was France 1789, and it would make complete sense because they probably wanted t step back a little to show you how the French Revolution was thought of. I think it's the real deal... Rumors about the american revelution... And this? The french revelution had a bigger inpact on the world and it's political landscape then the american, and in france you'll be able to climb tall buildings. It's the perfect backdrop to a AC game.

Besides, it took 3 games to link Ezio to Altair, and since this is going to be the last one for the main series (there might be side games like it, I hope) it seems kind of pointless.
