Hi, I got one question? Once the water is clear, do you turn it off the UV or can you leave it on everyday? Will it do anything to the tank? Please message me back asap!
I've been debating on whether or not to get UV sterilizer for my algae infested 30 gallon - This was just the video I needed to prove it's a good investment, thanks for the video!
Such a great video. I'm setting up two new tanks soon. I think I want a UV sterilizer just in case. I'm planning to stock the aquarium to full capacity (not over stocked, but the recommended capacity) and planted. I've had this problem with the peasoup water before and it's okay to do water changes daily until it goes in my 20gallon tank with the sink right by it.. But the new tank is 33gallons and far away from sinks. Daily water changes would hurt my back.
@dexOn22 , I like to leave it on for a day or so after the water has cleared. A lot of times I'll put it on for 48 hours even when the water looks great to kill any kind of bacteria or chance of algae/contamination. It is of no harm to the fish if you leave it on continuously.
Thanks for posting this. I am buying a turbo twist 9W for my 66 gal hex tank this week. I will be adding it to my out take of the Eheim canister filter. It is really cloudy and murky. I bought a 9W for my 500 gal pond and it is crystal clear after only one week. I plan to post a before and after video as well.
@pharyngealized c'mon, pirates die, and the skulls are down there, in Davy Jones locker. See, it is kind of 'realistic' ;p hehe, just kind of kidding around tho.
I bought one of the 24 watt ones for my 75 gallon and it sucks!!! I have been running it for 2 weeks and my water is still not clear as it should be. It's not green but from the reviews I get, people have super clear water after using for a while. I noticed a slight decrease in planaria in my tank. I think I'm gonna return it and try another brand.
@Sapper023 Don't be afraid to run it 24/7 until your water is crystal clear. I still run mine for five days out of the month just before and after a mag wipe of the glass and water change to ensure no new major algae formation.
@crashinbash My panther grouper has some sort of worm-like thing coming out the side of his mouth, is it true that a UV Sterilizer can kill the parasitic worm or worms within the tank? Or is that just a misconception. Thanks
I just put my 24Watt one in my 100 gallon tank. It's definitely filtering, but I only notice the little light turning red - I just want to make sure it's working. Does this sound like your situation?
You have to replace the whole bulb with enclosure. Remove it from the powerhead, keep the elbow bracket and find a a store that sells the replacement wattage bulb you need. There is no other way to do it. Unfortunately this is the only drawback of this unit, it is somewhat wasteful.
There are two different units, a 9watt and a 24watt. I used the 9 for $39.99. I purchased a spare UV bulb but haven't needed to replace it yet in over a year.
Cool!! Sorry i couldn't reply any sooner than that coz, it was a very long story. I understand it was a 24watt, and it cost you at least 40 bucks but, on top of the shipment, how much did it cost for the total??
It's absolutely great! I can't understand why people are rating this one star. My waters been crystal clear since and that was a month ago I took it out. I've got ton's of beard algea though because I've added alot of plants and fertilizer.
why dont you keeo the uv in all the time? iwont hurt nothing right? does it kill live plants? and do all of them go inside the aquarium or outside?

It is a few pounds of slate. Adds some nice volume and doesn't really change the ph at all. Plan to add some more soon actually.

Why people put all that scull shit in aquariums?
Lack of any aesthetic taste?

@nflwookiee Even a 9 watt bulb does nicely for my 125 gallon tank. I keep mine on all the time.
