The Beatles never played on their own recordings. They used studio musicians and
pretended to play even during live concerts. A Beatle secret....lol It was like the Monkees though later, the Monkees learned their instruments....lol
@FOTOCHOCK I was joking about that. But Ringo was not allowed to play drums on "Love Me Do". They used a studio drummer named Andy White. The song was recorded three times each time with three different drummers. Pete Best, the original drummer in the group was fired by the Beatles. George Martin
didn't approve of his playing or of Ringo on the second recording. So Ringo ended up playing the tambourine on the third recording.
@jpsmart59 No disagreement with anything read here. Sounds like the type of comments & discussion that I welcome but have to look harder than I want sometimes. The 1 thing I would like to contribute is the version of Ringo's joining the Band. Brian Epstein called Pete in (who at the time got as much fan mail as anyof them, if not more) & fired Pete. His Mom had played an important role in early Beatle history. She opened her home to the kids & they played there alot, converting it into continued
@jpsmart59 the Casbah Coffee Club, they (Pete was not the drummer at this point, ) started building a reputation of sorts(trying to condense this) & were still toying with what to name the band.Next stop, Hamburg...The Beatles needed a drummer, called Pete who was doing a residency at The Casbah with his band & he joined. For the next 2 yrs.he was Beatles drummer. F.Foward to your comments, correct. Popularity, personality or lack of, were used by John mainly to tell B.E.tofire Pete=R.S.&History
You cannot constructively criticise a guy that tells all you lot to p-off and stop writing him or he'll burn your letters. Never heard so much bull as Blingo is the most talented drummer ever?! ROFL
Lennon and Macca used him and George as trusted session musicians. He was portrayed quite rightly as a clown and everyone still feels sorry for him. George and John have very sadly passed and their talent is greatly missed.
What has Rory Storms ex drummer ever done to music since the Beatles ride?
Ringo was the numpty and so many think he was a world breaking drummer. He was a clown and Paul could do the drums a hell of lot better. Problem is you need the members to play live etc.
Pete Best would have left them even more of a legacy had he towed the 'dress code' and 'sell out' line at the start. Starkey is an idiot telling all beatles fans to stop writing him etc. He was gifted a career after Rory Storm.
Every professional I've ever heard has said that Ringo was a one of kind drummer and I'm inclined to believe them. His lefthand style is so unique. He rarely played the same fill twice and because he was left-handed there's a beautiful delay to his snare strikes. I often think of him like Charlie Watts and personality that got overshadowed by all the huge personalities standing in front.... Also Pete Best did not choose to leave he was by Paul and John via Epstein
Every professional I've ever heard has said that Ringo was a one of kind drummer and I'm inclined to believe them. His lefthand style is so unique. @CalamityCameron The Beatles CHOSE Ringo and fired Pete Best. Ringo was a professional drummer all on his own in Liverpool. He had performed in the Cavern and the Liverpool Stadium before he even met The Beatles in Hamburg.
I read that Ringo was in on these sessions for Harry Nilson's album, but not in on this night. Paul was playing Ringo's drums & Ringo wanted to know who'd been messing with his drum kit!!!
@waulrus68 Ringo has said that any time he stepped away for a cup of tea or to use the bathroom, Paul would be messing with his drums. It hurt Ringo's ego a bit, like Paul didn't think he was a good enough drummer.
Lol, I'm a lefty bassist and I sing in my band, and I also play guitar and drums. When I first discovered the Beatles, I was like "Holy Shit, this McCartney guy is alot like me!" Only thing wrong is that I haven't tried piano yet... That was about a year ago, but Now I have basic piano skills!
One way of looking at it is this: Together, they were ying & yang, salt & pepper, positive and negative poles, sweet & sour, etc. EX: When they were really writing together early on, Paul wrote 'It's getting better all the time"...John: 'It couldn't get much worse'... You see that in a lot in their collabration. Still, as a musical child of that era myself and a writer, I see it like this. While John had some gems after Beatles, Paul, all along, is truly a master melody maker.
@SuperSpooky999 I totally agree with your description of there personalities. 1 other note, IMO John seemed more the philosopher, & was DEFINITELY more "political". As for their respective solo careers, I'd say they were nearly equal in terms of success. 1 thing I find unfair, your last sentence. Since John died, you really should end career comparisons at that point, since you can't say WHAT John might have accomplished. Paul continued & collaborated extensively. Might not John have also?
@gjc82071 OK... I can agree to your last point. I know John became a 'mom' for several years before his final album just before he was shot. I've always wondered really what was going on there. I have to wonder if part of it was he was hesitant really to push himself to compete with Paul. After all, he had made big statements as to Paul's music, etc. He then would have had to 'walk-the-walk' so to speak.
@SuperSpooky999 Wow. Polite, intelligent debate/conversation, & on Youtube non-the less! What is the world coming to? haha :-) Seriously though, John had his success, but I think he was at heart a politician without an elected post. Paul just wanted to make music. I've noticed interviews where Paul has interjected/finished sentences & or cut off John, probably for John's own good. Politics & music usually don't mix well, IMO. Remember the Dixie Chicks? Let's just say, both were talented
BTW, you seem to know more about them than I do. I didn't know of comments John made about Paul's music (I'm not disagreeing). The "mom" thing, yea, true. My real point I guess is as far as successful solo careers (up to John's death), I think they were nearly equal. Paul had his "Wings", John his solo stuff (Imagine, etc). Paul's popularity, in terms of "hits", definitely dropped by mid 80's with the synth pop, hair/metal bands, etc. I doubt John would have done much better.
@gjc82071 thanks.. Yeah... I'm a student of the Beatles pretty much, and lived through the amazing ride from start to finish as a boy, and then a teenager. it was amazing. Nothing like it has come since, especially the changes in their music, technology from mono to stereo, cultural changes, and the growth of music and the band itself. It was literally mind-blowing. Going from 'She Loves You, Yeah Yeah Yeah" to 'Helter Skelter'.. LOL or "I Am The Walrus'... Ha ..
@SuperSpooky999 I am just a fan, only of their music from "Help" on. (don't like the early stuff). 1 thing I find funny/cool, what you say about the change in their music. I think the same thing! I don't think ANY band in history, the change in their musical style, & in such a short time period, from Help! in 1965 to Let it Be in 1970, no band has progressed in such a short period. 1964 vs 1968 Beatles, are really almost like 2 (great!) entirely different bands. Maybe it was just the era?
Well, the Beatles as a group are still the greatest musical act ever, but as individual musicians, I would have to say Paul is the best out of the group. John, George, and Ringo are no slouches as soloists, but Paul has run circles around them in terms of hits, and a more recognizable body of solo work that the other 3 just failed to achieve. I know that this debate will go on forever, but Paul has proven himself a master. He never got tired of making new music while the others had issues.
@jakfuki hes defiantly more successful than the others but that does not make him better than the other three. i actually prefer George over the others as a soloist and i say its all based on opinion
@beatlesman135 Most definitely. Everyone has their favorite Beatle. Mine is Paul although I think the best solo album from any of them is George's All Things Must Pass. In a way, it's difficult to like just one, but for some reason, I like Paul the most. There's some things that the guys could only do as soloists, but their best work was when they were all a band.
@jakfuki Same here, i love the other 3, but for some reason i like George more. And just to say this i think the Band on the Run is tied with All Things Must Pass for the greatest solo Beatles album
well, I see how people say Paul was technically better. its not saying the other 3 Beatles songs were any less importnat, its the fact Paul could play the most instruments and is a very unique bass player, as well as the fact he could play stuff Lennon couldnt which is how he got into the Quarrymen as a teenager. All 4 Beatles and many other musicians in the world have little technical skill, can't read sheet music, etc, but they're still great musicians/songwriters and are great their own way
Paul was very versatile. Being an inspired bass player, competent drummer, good guitarist as well as being good on the piano. John was also versatile.
Probably a reason why they wrote so many songs. It must be easier to think of new ideas with lots of instruments to play with.
wow there are a lot of Paul fans here. And passionate too! The Beatles were a team and I think it's pointless to compare talents because it's all subjective. They all have talent, and yes even Ringo. You don't get to be in a group as successful as The Beatles without everyone holding their own. Don't forget that "I want to hold your hand" was written by both John and Paul,as stated in separate interviews. And that song made their careers in the U.S. .
@athroughme I'm a fan since '64 and you stated that very well. Among the things that made them successful was that, just like you said, they were a team. It was them against the world in a sense and not only did they win the game, they destroyed. (In the most positive sense, of course!) Every team member having talent is not enough, they need to work together for the team rather than themselves. They were a well oiled machine.
Too much hate on these commments, I will give you something that a graet argentinian artist (Charlie García) said when Harrison died: "The Beatles were a four sided diamond"
as if anybody will read all this, but one last point about McCartney, he was the ONLY Beatle to go weasel back with George Martin (the 5th Beatle) and use his again as producer etc, so he took credit for the Beatles polish and sound while the others went it alone, truly SOLO. Once again, McCartney pulling a slick one. Only the most stupid people believe McCartney was the Beatles, he wasn't he was always looking out for himself to this day.
@RayFeelaveR The Beatles where (and will always be) the sum of 4 parts. The reason they were such a great band is that you had a balanced mixture of commercial craft (McCartney) that still had the edge and intelligence of the non-mainstream of the time (Lennon). This is why they had such wide appeal then and to this day. Their solo work is just that – its what happens when you separate the main ingredients. For some people, McCartney by himself is too much but the same works vice a versa
@RayFeelaveR (part2) McCartney is a pop songwriter, this is what he does best and he does it damn well. The fans of the 1970's unfairly compared his work to Lennon's. The truth is, they where totally day and night. And not to turn this into a “who's better” match but Lennon released his fair share of soppy ballads too. You couldn't say John's 'Mind Games' album was a 'hard rocking' album since it's 85% “I'm sorry Yoko” songs.
@RayFeelaveR (part3) And as for McCartney going to "weasel back with George Martin" - so what!?! 'Tug of War' was a good album with a consistency in production that the solo fabs had lost since 1974. Martin and McCartney clearly work well together so I don't see it as problem. The production was also a weak piont in the solo albums. I liked Spector with Lennon and Harrison eariler albums but both Lennon and McCartney could be patchy when they produced their own albums.
Yoko Ono actually had a brilliant concept for Lennon, she wanted Lennon as the nucleus and a ever changing band to constantly inspire him to new inspirations and interpretations, much like what a modern Bjork is doing. But, It seems Lennon was going through a personal crisis during his post Beatles periods. The tragedy is that he was just getting back into pure music for the sake of music once again with Double Fantasy, so it's sad, but he'd obviously be writing superior works over McCartney.
George Martin said it well, Lennon was surreal, and artist... mystic and unique. He couldn't say CRAFT descriptions like McCartney, he would say he wanted it to sound like "an orange" meaning he was surrealistic in approach. You either get it or don't, it's something Paul will NEVER HAVE period. McCartney's attempt to sound artistic was to do failures like Magical Mystery Tour lol. The only good parts were Lennon's of course, the rest was drivel. Lennon needed to work with John Cage etc... ONO.
She Said She Said, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, Happiness Is A Warm Gun, Dear Prudence, Nowhere Man, Across The Universe, I Am The Walrus, Tomorrow Never Knows, In My Life, A Day In The Life, I Feel Fine, A Hard Days Night, I Should Have Known Better, If I Fell, It's Only Love, No Reply, Because, I Want You, Come Together, Don't Let Me Down, I Dig A Pony, Girl, I Call Your Name, Any Time At All.... On and on and on, Lennon was UNIQUE and will be remembered as such. No Beatles without him.
Lennon was all about NOW, his life, his experience and filtering contemporaneous influences into his own language in a fresh and hip manner. McCartney just crapped out repackaged "rubber soul" and always fell back on Little Richard, or Chubby Checker rip offs. Look at Lennon's songs... he'll be remembered as UNIQUE and classic for HIS LIFETIME. McCartney will be what? what he is... old hat, CRAFT and moon in june just like Ono said. It's a fact, plain for all to see who can see.
reading all the comments.... i agree with almost everyone... heey it wouldve been great to hear em together again ... as we all know... its a bloody shame ... know one had a better rock sound then lennon... and i dont think he had a bigger fan then paul./... long live the beatles...
McCartney was the true craftsman and talisman of the Beatles who was simply music first. He leaned less on the guidance of others in talent and ideas, most of the studio clips you see confirm this, who are they all following ? He was the musical director of The Beatles in every sense of the word, that's something to have on your CV.
@bonnriley talisman? LOL what an absolute ass. Lennon was the meat and soul of the Beatles, end of story. Sure McCartney was CRAFT, old hat, singing victorian drivel that could have been farted out some english lords poohole in 1834. McCartney had a few mainstream wonders, and a couple of genuine great tunes/lyrics like Hey Jude and Two Of Us, but once he started turning the Beatles into Your Mother Should Know, Martha My Dear that was the end of Lennon's Beatles and the end of the band.
@bonnriley Paul is technically a better musician than John Lennon was, but Paul McCartney was (and still is) incapable of writing a song that contains any real meaning.
@jimbeauxjones Such an idiotic statement shows that you didn't grow up with the Beatles and that you're incapable of hearing what's right in front of you. Two examples among almost countless others of lyric writing by McCartney that are simply infused with meaning are Hey Jude and Maybe I'm Amazed. And the argument can be made that there is "meaning" in all art, though that meaning need not be of great import. So... go ahead, keep commenting and show everyone how narrow you are.
@jimbeauxjones you obviously havent heard the following songs. Let It Be, My Love, Maybe Im Amazed, Hey Jude, Yesterday, With A Little Luck, Letting Go and a plethera of others. RIDICULOUS BIASED STATEMENT!!!
Its true Paul was the musical leader alot of that is because he is the bass player. The bass is the thing every other instrument works around. To get a little deeper into that thought though is the fact that he was another guitar player and becuase they couldnt get a good bass player [for whatever reason] he picked it up and well you know the rest. I play the guitar, drums and bass. I found it easier to lead a band playing bass. amazingly playing bass for 2 years made me a better drummer.
Please, read books like Loving John (1983), wrote for May Pang or "Lennon in America" (2000) by Geoffrey Giuliano. IM TIRED ABOUT LENNON MYTH!!! Both shows how much Yoko influded in Lennon....She was very wrong for him....was terrifing.. So, for those still thinks that Lennon could be a mix between Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi, Jesuscrist and Al Gore, I say that he never gave a opinion about Israel-Palestine stuff, The dissapear people in Argentina or about Cuba's Fidel Castro goverment.
@paunero1972 he never said anything about Israel and the Arabs because he did not understand it. Nobody outside Israel really understand what goes on here. But almost everyone talks about it, except John Lennon who was just too cool to do such a silly thing.
THINK! Paul was ALIVE for an additional THIRTY YEARS! SO how could John compete- People who over look the fact that he wasn't even around for the last 30 years, are deluded. Lennon still endures as THE Beatles-
PS:NO other voice could sound like Johns-listen to "A Day in the Life/Strawberry Fields/Yes it Is" etc. I like Macca's work too (enough to have shelled out $700 & $400 to see him in 2 concerts).
But comparing his work to a man who's been dead the past 30 yrs is ridiculous.
@beatleness I always thought Paul got a little too goofy sometimes but I'm not saying he couldn't rock. You know in my opinion I think Sean Lennon sounds like Paul every now and then.
@darthkards this could have been when Paul went to LA to talk with John about returning to Yoko. ? Rarely does Paul McCartney do somethng he doesn't want to. :)
@cornball918 --- well i think he was kinda roped into doing more than he expected to do. u can hear it in the recording session that he clearly didnt want to be there. also the recording is in nyc not la. it sure seems like john is having a much better time there in the session than paul is if u listen to the entire cd or album. pity that more than these 45 or so mins never got out.
@darthkards Hades! All this time I thought it was in LA during John's wild adventure out west. I've never seen the entire CD to purchase. BUT, *we* know Paul, if he didn't want to be there, he would not have been there playing drums and singing. John was funny with his comedy about the earphones.
@cornball918 i think john had a way to make paul feel obligated to feel like he had to do things somethings to placate john and figured what the hell its only an hour or two of studio time and maybe this will shut him up. it was a lot of goofing around and i have the full cd. i wish more of it would have gotten out by now. it is after all 36 yrs and so far nothing has surfaced cept that one cds worth. and i forget now but when did that cd come out? just within the last 10 or 20 yrs?
@cornball918 u can find the cd online for downloading. if not u can contact me and i can probably help. email me at darthcdrx@aol.com maybe i can help u.
John had some really bad engineers in the last days. I don't know how or why he got hooked up with those types. He was spoiled by George Martin. "You don't know whatcha got, until you lose it." :-(
Ah haaaaa.... I wanna cry!!! John and paul in the same room?? Anybody know exactly what went down between John and paul during and after this jam session? were they on good terms already before John died??
@marniedrew Yes, John and Paul were on relatively good terms before John passed. They had their spats, but Paul said that he and John has a long, and one of their best phone conversations ever before he passed. They reconciled a lot of things and were putting it behind them. Just glad to know they were still too close for these bitter differences to come between them.
@Moots7272 how do we know pauls not just saying it,to make him look as if he wasn t the bad guy, paul wanted stuart out of the band, wanted pete out of the band, and john to himself, once john met yoko,he couldnt handle it,as john fell in love and wanted to spend time with yoko, then paul sulked, make comments on a couple of tracks from an album, which i can t rememebr as it wasn t worth buying
and 40years later he sings on the x factor for a large sum of money and sang out of tune
@thenowuk The interviews were about the session. But none I've read or heard specifially verified THIS recording. If you can provide the a link, I'd be glad to read / listen to it. Somehow you think you own this knowledge and because I DARE to question it, I'm an idiot? It called a bootleg.... BOOTLEG!!! Should raise a little suspision right up front. Ya think? You don't need to be a jerk about this. Never question anything, right? Show me the link that puts this to bed!!!
@mlkbeat look yourself if you 're too deaf to hear what's on here, you sound like a conspiracy twit. There's nothing to question it's right here. It is well documented and i've seen various books/interviews etc over the years....don't have a link, and can't be bothered to find one, I don't give a shit if you want to believe what you hear or not,it's not even my video! but it IS the real deal-just listen! ....jesus............bootlegs are only unofficial releases and this one is very well known
The session may have happened but I'm sorry, I don't believe that this is it. The singing on lucille doesn't sound like John or Paul. And Paul never says a word?
@mlkbeat I think this is John Lennon singing, but not a good range for him it would have probably been better suited for Mccartney and I think that's Mccartney trying to provide some type of backing vocals to Lenon's mad vocals.
@mlkbeat What are you talking about?-this is a well documented bootleg-you can clearly hear Macca from 7.52mins singing in the background(and before)-it's not a question of belief-it's a fact
@mlkbeat One called john Lennon another called Paul Mccartney in various published interviews....as Lennon remembered, all the other artists just stopped and stared at him at Paul, you can find the session notes if you can be bothered, there's numerous accounts in various books too-other than that just use your ears, can't you tell it's them? what's your problem?pretty clear
@mlkbeat This session REALLY did happen. It was supposed to be a "visit and a little party," but ego's kept the tape rolling..........this is a snippet, warts and all....
theres a picture of john and paul hanging out in 74 when paul was sporting a little mustache and goatee, this was a spontaneous loose jam with paul on drums and lennon grabbed a guitar. im sure that they wouldve started playing and writing together in the 80's would have seen some amazing collaborations eventually but that was not how it was meant to be sadly.
It's sad that nothing came out of this. It's true that Paul and John were on good terms at the end of John's life. They would often call each other on the phone and chat about their family's. Maybe in time they would have played together again but that is something that will never be known. George is the only one that was on bad terms with John before his death due to problems with the Concert for Bangladesh and Yoko. I think John & Paul both knew working together was a ware on there friendship.
Mark David Chapman is the world's 4th worst person (i'll let you people decide the other three). As Salvador Dali said on John's death, "He was a nice man, a very good friend, and I can't believe someone would want to kill him." I bet John would still be alive if Chapman didn't kill him. George maybe wouldn't, but remember at Live AIDS, when the remaining 3 beatles played. Use more Lennon demos, or Harrison demos, even! Long live The Beatles!
@Burromovie wow youre a fuckin idiot. Mark Chapmans the 4th worse person in the world? Is that by your standards being the worlds keeper? Whats even more fucking retarded than that statement, is that you think after the first sentance we'll somehow be able to decipher who your royal claim is of the top 3 worst. Fuck you, you gotta be 12 or a piece of shit moron. How the hell can you just figure him as one of the worst people in the world? He only murdered one person, and thats all ive heard.
@CharlieMansonIsGod and who are you, queen mary of scots? he was a pyscho for god sake mark david chapman, he wasnt like 4th worst (like whos keeping track) but john lennon may as well was the best pop artist
@Burromovie oh wait stupid me you are a 12 year old fucking lol, sorry. No dude John would of been murdered no matter what, the peoples in power wanted him in the dirt.
@CharlieMansonIsGod there was people that didnt like john lennon, new york was after him for a long time. This is how it was meant to be. 12 year old? please no.
I always heard that George was the ideal Beatle to smoke a spliff with....I heard a rumour that Paul still smokes the chronic...Unfortunately,I never met either of them so,whatever.
What I heard of this session is that all these huge names got together and drank and did alot of toot rather than actually putting down anything of substance.
Nonetheless, very rare and deeply appreciated by any and all Beatles fans.
Oops...I mean Paul is more friendly...and diplomat as Ringo...George and John were more rude and straight but they ARE all fantastic and still THE BAND!
I saw an interview with May Pang, and she was crying and talking about her time with John, and once he asked her if she should get back with Paul, and her response was "you gotta do it, John! You gotta do it!" And then she (May) said "Then he got back with Yoko, and that was the end of that."
@vantalge I'm sure they were getting pretty along together. But I don't think that they became that close again. I think John was still hurt because of Paul's doings in the last days of the Beatles.
I love John and Paul them both and George and Ringo too. Don't forget that John was pretty rude with Paul after they broke...I mean stuff as "How do you sleep?" etc. I think that Paul was happy to be again in touch with him in 74-75 and John too...but he was more concerned on his private life with Yoko and Sean. Paul is more...John was more rude...after a brokeup nothin' is like before. I'm sure they felt friends as Paul as always stated... and if John was still alive...who knows?
What does that have to do with that ??? They always used to call each other that way, even back in early days. If something, it only shows they had a good
What an interesting find. Is that Stevie on keyboards? Stevie is amazing, having also played with Hendrix and sitting in with Miles. The Beatles opened for Little Richard in the early days, and Paul got his "wooo..." from him. This must have been a wondeful session to be part of. The first song, Lucille, reminds of Ebony Eyes Stevie recorded about a year later for '76's Songs in the Key of Life. Is this session connected to Walls and Bridges in any way? Thanks!
That is Paul on Lucille...totally...And before you scoff at anyone offering Stevie a Toot and a Snort, I dated a wonderfully talented blind musician, it is very possible for

I don't know who you think you are but Ringo was and still is one of the best drummers ever. And Pete Best was not anything special as a drummer.
keaton1895 8 months ago

@waulrus68 Ringo has said that any time he stepped away for a cup of tea or to use the bathroom, Paul would be messing with his drums. It hurt Ringo's ego a bit, like Paul didn't think he was a good enough drummer.

SuperSpooky999 10 months ago
@SuperSpooky999 I totally agree with your description of there personalities. 1 other note, IMO John seemed more the philosopher, & was DEFINITELY more "political". As for their respective solo careers, I'd say they were nearly equal in terms of success. 1 thing I find unfair, your last sentence. Since John died, you really should end career comparisons at that point, since you can't say WHAT John might have accomplished. Paul continued & collaborated extensively. Might not John have also?
gjc82071 9 months ago
@gjc82071 OK... I can agree to your last point. I know John became a 'mom' for several years before his final album just before he was shot. I've always wondered really what was going on there. I have to wonder if part of it was he was hesitant really to push himself to compete with Paul. After all, he had made big statements as to Paul's music, etc. He then would have had to 'walk-the-walk' so to speak.
SuperSpooky999 9 months ago
@SuperSpooky999 Wow. Polite, intelligent debate/conversation, & on Youtube non-the less! What is the world coming to? haha :-) Seriously though, John had his success, but I think he was at heart a politician without an elected post. Paul just wanted to make music. I've noticed interviews where Paul has interjected/finished sentences & or cut off John, probably for John's own good. Politics & music usually don't mix well, IMO. Remember the Dixie Chicks? Let's just say, both were talented
gjc82071 9 months ago
BTW, you seem to know more about them than I do. I didn't know of comments John made about Paul's music (I'm not disagreeing). The "mom" thing, yea, true. My real point I guess is as far as successful solo careers (up to John's death), I think they were nearly equal. Paul had his "Wings", John his solo stuff (Imagine, etc). Paul's popularity, in terms of "hits", definitely dropped by mid 80's with the synth pop, hair/metal bands, etc. I doubt John would have done much better.
gjc82071 9 months ago
@gjc82071 thanks.. Yeah... I'm a student of the Beatles pretty much, and lived through the amazing ride from start to finish as a boy, and then a teenager. it was amazing. Nothing like it has come since, especially the changes in their music, technology from mono to stereo, cultural changes, and the growth of music and the band itself. It was literally mind-blowing. Going from 'She Loves You, Yeah Yeah Yeah" to 'Helter Skelter'.. LOL or "I Am The Walrus'... Ha ..
SuperSpooky999 9 months ago

He never got tired of making new music while the others had issues.
jakfuki 10 months ago
@jakfuki hes defiantly more successful than the others but that does not make him better than the other three. i actually prefer George over the others as a soloist and i say its all based on opinion
beatlesman135 10 months ago
@beatlesman135 Most definitely. Everyone has their favorite Beatle. Mine is Paul although I think the best solo album from any of them is George's All Things Must Pass. In a way, it's difficult to like just one, but for some reason, I like Paul the most. There's some things that the guys could only do as soloists, but their best work was when they were all a band.
jakfuki 10 months ago
@jakfuki Same here, i love the other 3, but for some reason i like George more. And just to say this i think the Band on the Run is tied with All Things Must Pass for the greatest solo Beatles album
beatlesman135 10 months ago
well, I see how people say Paul was technically better. its not saying the other 3 Beatles songs were any less importnat, its the fact Paul could play the most instruments and is a very unique bass player, as well as the fact he could play stuff Lennon couldnt which is how he got into the Quarrymen as a teenager. All 4 Beatles and many other musicians in the world have little technical skill, can't read sheet music, etc, but they're still great musicians/songwriters and are great their own way
4FabBEATLES 11 months ago 2
@4FabBEATLES I agree with you about Sir Paul where he is a very good damn musician who couldn't read a single sheet note on the sheet music paper.

Paul was very versatile. Being an inspired bass player, competent drummer, good guitarist as well as being good on the piano. John was also versatile.
Probably a reason why they wrote so many songs. It must be easier to think of new ideas with lots of instruments to play with.
ADAM79929 1 year ago
wow there are a lot of Paul fans here. And that song made their careers in the U.S. .
athroughme 1 year ago 24
@athroughme I'm a fan since '64 and you stated that very well. Among the things that made them successful was that, just like you said, they were a team. It was them against the world in a sense and not only did they win the game, they destroyed. (In the most positive sense, of course!) Every team member having talent is not enough, they need to work together for the team rather than themselves. They were a well oiled machine.

as if anybody will read all this, but one last point about McCartney, he was the ONLY Beatle to go weasel back with George Martin (the 5th Beatle) and use his again as producer etc, so he took credit for the Beatles polish and sound while the others went it alone, truly SOLO.

For some people, McCartney by himself is too much but the same works vice a versa
paulisdead 1 year ago
@RayFeelaveR (part2) McCartney is a pop songwriter, this is what he does best and he does it damn well. The fans of the 1970's unfairly compared his work to Lennon's. The truth is, they where totally day and night. And not to turn this into a “who's better” match but Lennon released his fair share of soppy ballads too. You couldn't say John's 'Mind Games' album was a 'hard rocking' album since it's 85% “I'm sorry Yoko” songs.
paulisdead 1 year ago
@RayFeelaveR (part3) And as for McCartney going to "weasel back with George Martin" - so what!?! 'Tug of War' was a good album with a consistency in production that the solo fabs had lost since 1974. Martin and McCartney clearly work well together so I don't see it as problem. The production was also a weak piont in the solo albums. I liked Spector with Lennon and Harrison eariler albums but both Lennon and McCartney could be patchy when they produced their own albums.
paulisdead 1 year ago
Yoko Ono actually had a brilliant concept for Lennon, she wanted Lennon as the nucleus and a ever changing band to constantly inspire him to new inspirations and interpretations, much like what a modern Bjork is doing. But, It seems Lennon was going through a personal crisis during his post Beatles periods. The tragedy is that he was just getting back into pure music for the sake of music once again with Double Fantasy, so it's sad, but he'd obviously be writing superior works over McCartney.
RayFeelaveR 1 year ago
George Martin said it well, Lennon was surreal, and artist... mystic and unique. He couldn't say CRAFT descriptions like McCartney, he would say he wanted it to sound like "an orange" meaning he was surrealistic in approach. You either get it or don't, it's something Paul will NEVER HAVE period. McCartney's attempt to sound artistic was to do failures like Magical Mystery Tour lol. The only good parts were Lennon's of course, the rest was drivel. Lennon needed to work with John Cage etc... ONO.

On and on and on, Lennon was UNIQUE and will be remembered as such. No Beatles without him.
RayFeelaveR 1 year ago
Lennon was all about NOW, his life, his experience and filtering contemporaneous influences into his own language in a fresh and hip manner. McCartney just crapped out repackaged "rubber soul" and always fell back on Little Richard, or Chubby Checker rip offs. Look at Lennon's songs... he'll be remembered as UNIQUE and classic for HIS LIFETIME. McCartney will be what? what he is... old hat, CRAFT and moon in june just like Ono said. It's a fact, plain for all to see who can see.

McCartney was the true craftsman and talisman of the Beatles who was simply music first. He leaned less on the guidance of others in talent and ideas, most of the studio clips you see confirm this, who are they all following ? He was the musical director of The Beatles in every sense of the word, that's something to have on your CV.

@bonnriley -well said!!
comoyoko 1 year ago
@bonnriley talisman? LOL what an absolute ass. Lennon was the meat and soul of the Beatles, end of story. Sure McCartney was CRAFT, old hat, singing victorian drivel that could have been farted out some english lords poohole in 1834. McCartney had a few mainstream wonders, and a couple of genuine great tunes/lyrics like Hey Jude and Two Of Us, but once he started turning the Beatles into Your Mother Should Know, Martha My Dear that was the end of Lennon's Beatles and the end of the band.
RayFeelaveR 1 year ago
@bonnriley Paul is technically a better musician than John Lennon was, but Paul McCartney was (and still is) incapable of writing a song that contains any real meaning.
jimbeauxjones 1 year ago
@jimbeauxjones Such an idiotic statement shows that you didn't grow up with the Beatles and that you're incapable of hearing what's right in front of you. Two examples among almost countless others of lyric writing by McCartney that are simply infused with meaning are Hey Jude and Maybe I'm Amazed. And the argument can be made that there is "meaning" in all art, though that meaning need not be of great import. So... go ahead, keep commenting and show everyone how narrow you are.

But comparing his work to a man who's been dead the past 30 yrs is ridiculous.

bluntforce86 1 year ago
It's sad that nothing came out of this. It's true that Paul and John were on good terms at the end of John's life. They would often call each other on the phone and chat about their family's. Maybe in time they would have played together again but that is something that will never be known. George is the only one that was on bad terms with John before his death due to problems with the Concert for Bangladesh and Yoko. I think John & Paul both knew working together was a ware on there friendship.

Mark David Chapman is the world's 4th worst person (i'll let you people decide the other three).

John calls Paul only "McCartney". I don't think that they were that close again. He did not use his name.

@SgtOBrien John said in an interview that can be found on YouTube that they were getting along and had played together, referring to this.

@vantalge I'm sure they were getting pretty along together. But I don't think that they became that close again. I think John was still hurt because of Paul's doings in the last days of the Beatles.

@SgtOBrien

@SgtOBrien
What does that have to do with that ??? They always used to call each other that way, even back in early days. If something, it only shows they had a good
relation again.
