“The anachronistic Mesopotamian genealogy of Abaraham and his relatives shows that it was a late invention intended to place Hebrew origins in the cultural center of the powerful Mesopotamian empires that followed after the defeat of Chaldeans by Persians, and also intended to enhance Hebrew prestige within Babylonian community”.
Above statement is an excerpt from the book “101 myths of bible”, by Gary Greenberg, the president of biblical archaeology society of NY, Page-116.
I typically love videos from SundriedAtheist. But for this one, I think that blaming humanity's omnivorous diet on the Abraham of the Bible is a bit of a stretch. Abraham, if he really existed as reported in the Bible, was a delusion bugger and a terrible Dad (to his son that he was so willing to murder just so god could sweetly smell the boy's burning flesh). But I don't think we can reasonably say that Abraham was the start of humans eating meat.
@GodVlogger You're probably right. But the whole "animals were created by gawd for the humans and they don't have souls so any pain they go through doesn't matter" christian dogma really isn't helping. =/
@Portocala15 Yes, I agree that religious beliefs taint how we see the world, including treatment of animals. I think that would be an excellent video topic for someone willing/able to spend the time teasing that out. But this was a video mainly showing advertisements against animal cruelty, without any reference to religion, but labeled with a title suggesting it was a video about the thuggery of the biblical Abraham. Anyway, I'm a fan of SundriedAtheist and do consider going vegetarian. Peace.
Yo yo yo. Let us fucking live our lives eating meat. We did it for millions of years. Animals die, we die. It is animal vs animal. That's how we survive. Sure, one could postulate that we don't need to eat MEAT. Just as we don't need to eat PLANT. Learn science.
@iliveon well science gives us some reasons to be vegetarian. Or at least to reduce the amount of meat you eat if you are the "standard" western civilication person. If all 7 billion humans would eat that much meat we would have to create huge amounts of new farmland, destroying eco systems and excallerating the climate change.
@DeineMudda1337dsf science will allow us to make food from the plant that is just like meat. I think it is possible that it could grow to be cheaper and better than meat. I will wait on that instead of push this. Science will allow us to conquer our future problems.
@iliveon fact is, meat eating is morally wrong, its unhealthy. If you can't live without it, fine, but at least try to cut back. even if we've eaten meat for millions of years primates are basically herbivores.
@Portocala15 superior? No your hubris as a human is too high. I do not say that any species is superior than another. Now in my personal value for species, humans are above all. People have survived off of eating their own children before. Meat is essential to human survival back then, it may not be now, but it used to be. And meat is indeed healthy, this is confirmed by studies that show that lifespan is on average a little longer in people who eat both meat and veggies. Veggies alone is less.
@Portocala15 no I am saying you can't convince me that eating meat is 'wrong'
People who eat meat and veggies both of them live longer than people who eat just either or. I never said humans are above all. Read the first two sentences. look up hubris if you must
@iliveon I don't need to read anything, tyvm. Perhaps you should do some reading on the longest living people on Earth. It's the Japanese. Gee, I guess eating only vegetables and fish (low-fat white meat) has nothing to do with it...
And if you don't think it's wrong because of the animal's pain, then think of the environmental impact and huge amount of resources it takes to raise animals compared to farming. Eating meat is wrong. Full stop.
Abraham Lived around 18-19th BC. DO you seriously think people just started eating animals only 4000 years ago when we have been around for 10's of thousands of years. Kosher and Helal Meat do not subject Animals to this cruelty. And Abraham was the Patriarch of both the Jews (kosher) and Muslims (Helal). And i NEVER understood why anybody would be so upset about circumcision. It baffles me. It is like a last resort arguement because you can't find any better argumentation.
ied also like to say tht this sort of thing dose not happen evry were yes thing need to get better in how ther kepped but becoming a vegetarian is not the way forwerd lol all this says to me is yes this need to get better but there nothing here to say neny thing good about being a vegetarian i my eyes
good campaign but your video description is hatefilled stupid nonsense. Humans and their ancestors have eaten meat long before anybody called "Abraham" was born.
@DeineMudda1337dsf yeah the abraham thing is silly. But I think it goes more on the lines of How Muslims treat their women and marry them at age 6 etc is justified from their holy text of Mohammed doing it. Just as abraham did it, people follow suit.

If God didn't want us to eat animals why did He make them out of meat?

I no longer buy meat at all. We can get protein from peanuts, beans and rice, lentils, etc. It's healthier, cheaper, and much kinder to animals.

@iliveon So eating your own spawn means you're "above all"? And studies have proven that meat-eaters live longer? Wow, what planet are you from?

@Rimedzo08 There, of course, is no evidence for a historical Abraham. Just miraculous stories about a man.
