Just switched to Opera, and I'm already in love with it. The speed is just amazing. I don't think I'm going to switch to any other browser and stick with Opera :)
I like both, but I feel as though Firefox is kind of slow, but less glitchy. Opera is fast, but a bit glitchy. A lot of things just don't load up right with Opera, unlike Firefox...
It really depends on the websites you go to, as a some website designers are geared towards making their websites only work correctly with certain browsers, rather than fit within the general standard of web design.
Bench marks don't really matter, every web browser will be different depending on what machine you're using. I've been network engineer for almost 2 years, and no web browser is actually faster than each other, it all comes down to your computer and it's hardware.
And not to mention the optimization of the browser thereof. If you had a totally unoptimized, horrible, slow browser, chances are it'll run generally slowly on most computers. Which isn't to say I'm pointing fingers, but still =P
Additionally, it really depends on the benchmark, and whether you're getting the same general results globally.
@espirates2 Except for the fact that everything can beat Firefox in pretty much every benchmark except Internet Explorer. While I admit, I do LIKE Firefox, the performance isn't very good.
Well, Opera has ad blocking capabilities built in, and it's quite easy to find adblock lists for it (some of which are also available for Firefox's Adblock Plus). In addition, there's now an extension for Opera that allows you to simply select and adblock list provider, and it'll auto-update, so you're good to go.
Internet Explorer used to be the most unsafest browser of all time now its switching to firefox kos hackers know firefox has many users and other new users coming to that kos of firefox 4 so basically for the mean time opera is safest
The more addons you add, the more it's gonna slow down. It would only make it look worse. And don't try to say it doesn't. I used Firefox for a very long time before switching to Opera, and I still test it every so often. The point of the video is to show both browsers without any modifications to see if they differ in performance. Despite that, this video is pretty old, so I don't see why you should even care at this point, considering it's no longer accurate.
@sonicfreak94 You're wondering why people are spending their time to comment on your video? Then why don't you just remove it? You storage and bandwidth killer :)
@sonicfreak94 What you are saying, and you are correct, is that your video and thus all comments related to your video have become irrelevant. So what is it still doing on YouTube then?
The content of the video itself may currently be irrelevant, but this is still an open place for people to give their opinions on the browsers. I never once said that "all comments related to" my video "have become irrelevant." The person I responded to didn't like my lack of add-ons, and I said it doesn't matter because the video is old. And thus, only comments complaining about the lack of add-ons are irrelevant, not all comments in general. I really don't understand how you keep getting that.
If you're trying to imply I was using an older OS with a skin, then you're mistaken. Otherwise, I have no idea what you're talking about. At the time of recording, I was running Windows 7 RC1.
I have never tried opera (i am downloading right now), and from what i see, it looks like Opera is faster and all that than firefox, but firefox i already know has WAYYY better and more Add-Ons. Thats why i use firefox most.
Riiight. Except I just showed you in video form that Opera is superior. I didn't do any modification to the browsers, either. Firefox is THE lowest ranking browser in everything next to Internet Explorer (When it comes to speed, javascript, data transfer, etc).
Firefox, I installed it the other day after not using it for a couple of months. Frooze and crashed on the first run. Maybe you have had problems with it, but I'd rather older and freezes is better than new and freezes ;)
Well, if you have Opera Turbo enabled on a perfectly decent internet connection, that's why. It'll slow it down if your internet isn't actually being slow.
I'm not an idiot. I put everything to the default settings on both browser, cleared the cache of both browsers, and so on. Again, I'm not an idiot. Think before you post--and I quote--"dumbdfuck".
That's actually wrong. Opera is more secure than Firefox. There's even a website on which you can check, but I forgot what it was called. Proof of this would be: A friend of mine was constantly getting viruses from a certain website he visited while using Firefox. I had him try Opera, and he hasn't seen another virus since.
Yeah, Safari has always been very good. It's just a resource hog. That's why Google Chrome is so fast, it's using an Apple webkit of which was used on Safari.
That all depends on the computer. Because Safari uses a lot of resources (that it really doesn't need to). My experience with Safari was that it was still faster than Firefox, though. =V
Yeah. I remember when everyone used firefox back then, and it didn't suck up all of your resources just to start. It would instantly turn on, instantly turn off. Now it takes at least 10+ seconds just to start, is a resource hog, etc. So, I switched to Opera, because it has all of the support for new coding on websites and what not, and it's also efficient at the same time. Not to mention, most of the things you'd get with an addon for FF are built into Opera. Adblocking, IRC, etc.

Nice butt Noscript is a shit ton better specifically because it blocks scripts meaning say I want to be a pervert and go to one of those porn sites which are usually infested with viruses and what not guess what they can't get anywhere near me with no script hell I even tried it myself it automatically blocked all the malicous scripts in the back ground sometimes even the entire site if the sites totally infested. =)
Technically I know opera is vulnerable cause I tried it and luckily I use a "24/7" Anti-virus software so what hapened is my anti-virus was like WTF? oh hell no your not getting away from me then said VIrus detected and asked me "Delete? Block? Ignore? etc," I deleted teh virus. :P
It's less vulnerable than the other browsers out of the box, though. That, and antivirus programs give a lot of false positives. For instance, AVG. It once thought iTunes was a virus. Took about 3 days for them to update it so it didn't do that anymore =P
And according to this site I found of which its statistics are apparently updated on the hour, Opera has no security holes, and hasn't for a looong time now. Firefox, IE, and Safari have all been up and down.
Well you were talking about how oh I dunno so called "Less vulnerable" if it's that much better why the fuck does it not like shit like email? it blocks me from reading my messages so...out of the box...it's a pain in the ass.
You just screwed something up, then. And yes, that was my point. I didn't say it was completely unhackable, but it is more secure than the other browsers right out of the box. The problems you had were caused by you, not the browser. So in other words, user error.
No, it depends on the stability of the operating system, really. If it's littered with viruses, you're going to have all sorts of problems with ANY browser.
you wouldnt get any virus from opera unless u went to sites u wasnt supposed to or not familiar with or downloaded some stuff u dont know bout and you can get viruses like that with any browser windows os is what makes u vunerable to them there written in formats that widows supports
um i never mentioned anything about perverted so why did you bring that up and call me a dumbass on top of that ? sorry kid but you dont sound to bright yourself if your so perverted you just cant resist looking at stuff then go ahead get viruses or whatever ive already got a pretty good idea of what type of person you are by how you are so quick to put people down
I'm aware Google Chrome gets 100, but it fails one of the tests. I have tried Google chrome before, and it still wasn't anything special. I didn't like the fact that it used multiple processes. All that did for me was slow DOWN the experience, it didn't help anything. And all together, they used a large amount of RAM.
Opera Safari and Chrome are equally matched when it comes to speed, really. And Opera is perfectly secure. Safari is very nice, however it uses a lot of RAM on Window systems. (about 100 last I tried.)
idk about opera but chrome is 4 times as fast as internet explorer and safari is 8 times faster than internet explorer. now i only run firefox safari and chrome but i will giv opera a chane rite now
Personally, I'd use Opera if version 10 beta would work with my trackpad. 9.6 doesn't match up to Firefox 3.5, at least on acid3 tests. Can't wait until the final version 10 comes out though.
What are you talking about? The latest versions of Firefox (Firefox 3, that is) get 93/100, and before that, I think it was 73/100. I don't tweak my Firefox like other people do (although this makes me want to).
i do hate that every new tab is an extra process but overall i like it more then the other browsers because i support Google's mission to take over the world lol
Doesn't that defeat the purpose of your "Opera has what FireFox needs an addon for"? Going to the Mozilla Addons site is easier than scrubbing around for an .ini file...
You don't necessarily have to do it that way, though. You can just add the sites yourself, but I didn't want to do all that, so I searched around. And what do you know, it was like the first result on Google. Just search "Opera Adblock list". Essentially you're doing the same thing on the Mozilla Addon site, you're searching for what you want, so it's not any harder.
But how many everyday people can navigate their C: drive?
And are you talking about Fanboy's list? I've tried it, and it doesn't work as good as ABP. It lets a few ads slip through that ABP catches. Not very efficient :/
Web of Trust tells you which sites are safe when you are on Google based on actual ratings from heir customers. It's one of the more popular Internet Explorer/ Fire Fox addons out there.
If Opera works for you, that's fine. But I prefer Fire Fox and it's limitless addons over Opera and it's "You downloaded Opera, this is all you get."
Opera has it. Like I already said, most of the Firefox add-on style features are built into Opera already, and have been for a very long time. The things you even get via plugin are already built into FIREFOX ITSELF, it's just the people using it don't know how to configure it correctly =P
When you go to a site that isn't safe, Opera will tell you, and give you the option to go back or keep going, which is a basic feature for pretty much ANY browser. And the results from what I understand are coming from about 3 companies. I didn't do much research into it though, because I'm too lazy. By all means, you can look yourself, though, lol.
Fire Fox has that too, but Web of Trust tells you before you even click on the link. And companies never catch anything besides major threats (McAfee site Advisor, Norton Safe Search, browser's own detection methods)
I like Web of Trust because it's results come from actual user experience. If you still have Fire Fox installed, give ABP and WoT a try.
I've told my customers that. I always say that Opera is better, I just use Firefox because I prefer it. However, I'd like that list. Firefox has a blocker as well. And I'm thinking I might get Opera as well. Not sure how much I'd use it but it'd be nice in case.
Wait, so Opera has a built in ad blocker? You just may have converted me from Fx (that's what Firefox's initials are supposed to be, not FF). You also have to consider things like how it handles tabs. I'm gonna try out Opera now, and hopefully I'm satisfied with it's adblocker. I tried Opera once before under Ubuntu, and I liked it, except Firefox had it's add-ons.
You have to block the sites yourself, however. There is a good site that has a file with a huge amount of advertising sites blocked if you want me to give you a link.
I admit Opera was hard to get used to coming from Firefox myself, but it was worth the change. Most of the stuff Firefox can do with a plugin, Opera does it BUILT IN. And it doesn't take up ANY more space than Firefox =D. For instance, Ad blocking. No extra plugins = no moar ram hoar!
Just switched to Opera, and I'm already in love with it. The speed is just amazing. I don't think I'm going to switch to any other browser and stick with Opera :)

My Google chrome went 100/100 I recommend trying it
sagas599 2 years ago
I'm aware Google Chrome gets 100, but it fails one of the tests. I have tried Google chrome before, and it still wasn't anything special. I didn't like the fact that it used multiple processes. All that did for me was slow DOWN the experience, it didn't help anything. And all together, they used a large amount of RAM.
sonicfreak94 2 years ago
Iv only used Netscape Internet explorer safari firefox and google chrome
Internet explorer sukks the most of all
Firefox is the safest and most convieniant
Safari is the fastest of all
JohnathenDavis 2 years ago
Opera Safari and Chrome are equally matched when it comes to speed, really. And Opera is perfectly secure. Safari is very nice, however it uses a lot of RAM on Window systems. (about 100 last I tried.)
sonicfreak94 2 years ago
idk about opera but chrome is 4 times as fast as internet explorer and safari is 8 times faster than internet explorer. now i only run firefox safari and chrome but i will giv opera a chane rite now
JohnathenDavis 2 years ago
U have opera beta 10 and firefox 3 only problem is that opera cant run some flash programs...
Reashun14 2 years ago
... Yes it can. If it can't then that's FLASH's problem, not the browser's. Facts are fun.
sonicfreak94 2 years ago
Personally, I'd use Opera if version 10 beta would work with my trackpad. 9.6 doesn't match up to Firefox 3.5, at least on acid3 tests. Can't wait until the final version 10 comes out though.
shadowofbeauty 2 years ago
Yeah, Opera 10 is really nice. I've been using the beta for some time now, and I can't wait for an official release either =D
sonicfreak94 2 years ago
I don't get it... I hit 100/100 on firefox...
I used IE and got 62 xD
PIKACHU49386 2 years ago
Did you tweak yours? If not, then they really did some updatin'.
sonicfreak94 2 years ago
No version of firefox has ever came close to 100. The closest I've seen Firefox get has been low 60s.
Only Opera beta 10 and a recent version of Safari have ever scored a perfect 10. No other browser has.
IE 6 through 8 score in the single digits or just barely above that.
shred5 2 years ago
What are you talking about? The latest versions of Firefox (Firefox 3, that is) get 93/100, and before that, I think it was 73/100. I don't tweak my Firefox like other people do (although this makes me want to).
shadowofbeauty 2 years ago
I've tried every version of 3 and not a single one passed 62.
shred5 2 years ago
is that good or bad
hero22zippy 2 years ago
Depends on the user I guess.
shred5 2 years ago
google chrome also got a 100/100 on the test
SonicKillMario 2 years ago
Because it's using an apple webkit, which means its basically safari. Problem is, Chrome failed the linktest, it says it at the bottom of the test.
sonicfreak94 2 years ago
true but it does not use NEARLY as mush ram as safari and is a lot faster
SonicKillMario 2 years ago
That is true, Safari for PC sucks.
Google Chrome however does use multiple processes as a "feature", which I didn't like.
sonicfreak94 2 years ago
i do hate that every new tab is an extra process but overall i like it more then the other browsers because i support Google's mission to take over the world lol
SonicKillMario 2 years ago
The new Safari isn't actually so bad!
Firefox would be good but for ages they had some serious memory leaks, then they fixed them, but a few more updates and I get constant crashing.
Opera doesn't refresh Ajax pages which requires me to manually hit refresh which is annoying, which is my only problem with that.
The interface for Chrome is pretty bad otherwise I'd use it a lot more.
shred5 2 years ago
i guess opera is better.but ima stick with FireFox.
SuperFlare55 2 years ago
FireFox is much more useful than any other browser.. also Acid3 is testing a future technology that is not exist in any website till now...
Look for FF3.5 you love it amazing speed :)
AUChannel 2 years ago
Not really, Opera is still faster. Plus, everything you get a plugin for to use in Firefox is built into Opera with no extra plugins. =P
And if it's testing a future technology, shouldn't Firefox be up-to-date with the new technologies? =/
sonicfreak94 2 years ago
I would love to use Opera, but it's "built-in" ad blocker can't block shit. :\
JPhantom95er 2 years ago
Only because you don't know how to use it. I just downloaded a .ini from some site, and I haven't seen one add ever since =P
sonicfreak94 2 years ago
Doesn't that defeat the purpose of your "Opera has what FireFox needs an addon for"? Going to the Mozilla Addons site is easier than scrubbing around for an .ini file...
JPhantom95er 2 years ago
You don't necessarily have to do it that way, though. You can just add the sites yourself, but I didn't want to do all that, so I searched around. And what do you know, it was like the first result on Google. Just search "Opera Adblock list". Essentially you're doing the same thing on the Mozilla Addon site, you're searching for what you want, so it's not any harder.
sonicfreak94 2 years ago
But how many everyday people can navigate their C: drive?
And are you talking about Fanboy's list? I've tried it, and it doesn't work as good as ABP. It lets a few ads slip through that ABP catches. Not very efficient :/
JPhantom95er 2 years ago
And I remembered, Opera doesn't support Web of Trust. Another downside :(
JPhantom95er 2 years ago
And I quote Sik the hedgehog;
"WTF is Web of Trust?"
XD
And Fanboy's adblock list works perfectly fine on Opera, haven't seen one ad ever since getting it.
sonicfreak94 2 years ago
Web of Trust tells you which sites are safe when you are on Google based on actual ratings from heir customers. It's one of the more popular Internet Explorer/ Fire Fox addons out there.
If Opera works for you, that's fine. But I prefer Fire Fox and it's limitless addons over Opera and it's "You downloaded Opera, this is all you get."
JPhantom95er 2 years ago
Opera has it. Like I already said, most of the Firefox add-on style features are built into Opera already, and have been for a very long time. The things you even get via plugin are already built into FIREFOX ITSELF, it's just the people using it don't know how to configure it correctly =P
sonicfreak94 2 years ago
In which way does Opera have it's own Web of Trust, and are the results from actual people and not some small group of testers?
JPhantom95er 2 years ago
When you go to a site that isn't safe, Opera will tell you, and give you the option to go back or keep going, which is a basic feature for pretty much ANY browser. And the results from what I understand are coming from about 3 companies. I didn't do much research into it though, because I'm too lazy. By all means, you can look yourself, though, lol.
sonicfreak94 2 years ago
Fire Fox has that too, but Web of Trust tells you before you even click on the link. And companies never catch anything besides major threats (McAfee site Advisor, Norton Safe Search, browser's own detection methods)
I like Web of Trust because it's results come from actual user experience. If you still have Fire Fox installed, give ABP and WoT a try.
JPhantom95er 2 years ago
opera is the best so far firefox is not as good

Opera fails on Wii
AshuraXDemon 2 years ago
You should buy me a Wii so I can try it and complain =D
sonicfreak94 2 years ago
So true
neothehedgehog1 2 years ago 2
I've told my customers that. I always say that Opera is better, I just use Firefox because I prefer it. However, I'd like that list. Firefox has a blocker as well. And I'm thinking I might get Opera as well. Not sure how much I'd use it but it'd be nice in case.
BlazeTheHedgehog115 2 years ago
Wait, so Opera has a built in ad blocker? You just may have converted me from Fx (that's what Firefox's initials are supposed to be, not FF). You also have to consider things like how it handles tabs. I'm gonna try out Opera now, and hopefully I'm satisfied with it's adblocker. I tried Opera once before under Ubuntu, and I liked it, except Firefox had it's add-ons.
MasterJ37 2 years ago
You have to block the sites yourself, however. There is a good site that has a file with a huge amount of advertising sites blocked if you want me to give you a link.
sonicfreak94 2 years ago
I'm sure I'll figure it out. I'll see if i can somehow subscribe to the easylist (USA) feed. If I can't figure it out, I'll ask for the link, thanks.
MasterJ37 2 years ago
I've tried, but not figured out anything yet. I'll try some more later. For now, maybe you could send me that link =)
P.S. If I manage to get easylist to work in Opera, I'll tell you.
MasterJ37 2 years ago
needs moar chrome and safari.

They suck horribly on Windows D=
sonicfreak94 2 years ago
I think Firefox is better. My opinion,of course.
HousexKills 2 years ago
I admit Opera was hard to get used to coming from Firefox myself, but it was worth the change. Most of the stuff Firefox can do with a plugin, Opera does it BUILT IN. And it doesn't take up ANY more space than Firefox =D. For instance, Ad blocking. No extra plugins = no moar ram hoar!
sonicfreak94 2 years ago
and then IE sucks so much it's no
