Saw them at Glasgow SECC the other night. Razor sharp - they shame just about every "current" act out there. The songs are very much relevant today also. Terry in fine form (in his own quiet way) as were the whole band. Just a shame big Nev's not as mobile these days. A huge feel-good gig and I'm priveleged to have been there!
I was a glint in my dad's eye when this song was made, but my god am I happy I discovered the Specials. So timelessly fresh - got tickets to the Cardiff show this October. Cannot wait. As for this track. The groove is immense.
my daughter was born in 1980. I passed my driving test at last third time. changed jobs (for the better) and there was this brilliant group/band called the specials. It was a very good year!
In Dammers world, Dammers is penning a tune called Specials Friend, urging anyone who has a friend who has any favorable views on the "new" Specials to not have them as a friend any more. Wanker.
Oh wait I got it... A man at C&A is indeed referring to the shop chain. It's a shop for 'normal' people, a man at C&A has got nothing to say about the war games that they play...

hope they have a new album soon.but what happens after that?Is there going to be just a fun boy three reunion again, followed by the colourfield then terry blair and anoushka
when bands get back together after 10 years or so they normally slow old and crap ,but these are eithen better then they was ,probably the best i heard ,specails was good ,but now iethen better
The Coventry gig on 15th was the best gig I've seen since 1981, no contest.
I lost my watch and my mobile... but it was worth it! They could've taken my clothes too, I wouldn't have cared.
Believe me, The Specials are even better now than when I last saw them in '80.
ALSO, the gig was refreshingly free of the corporate bullshit that accompanies so many bigger gigs these days: just a bare arena full of excited people, like it used to be.
I have just been to The Specials gig at the o2 Academy Brixton, Saturday May 16th. This must be best live band I have ever seen. Goodness knows what they were like in their prime back in 1979. Truly amazing!
They look great too and Terry Hall still has it. The band is so damn tight. Speaking of anything out there today - check out Amy Winehouse lousy version of Hey Little Rich Girl version The Specials with Terry. Great to see them back.
Musically i think they are playing better than ever. I do wish Terry would move a bit though and have a shave. I think if Jerry had his way they wouldn't have reformed. Can't wait to see them at the birmingham academy.
No way! If you look at all the old footage of The Specials he's dancing. I think it inadvertently added to his "can't be bothered" image because it was like a sarcastic physical gesture. You can tell he didn't really want to and obviously he didn't because he stopped and stood flaccid at the mic with every group he's been in since he left the band.
I have alot of archive footage of the Specials in concert and tv shows and Terry always danced or moved to the music along with neville and Lynval. Example- check live at colchester institute. He never really just stood there. Maybe it is something to do with this bi-polar disorder he has been diagnosed with. I agree that sometimes it did look as though he didn't really want to but had to go along with everyone else.
From the rumors I heard, Jerry had a strict view on how they were going to do things like not playing big venues and festivals (which they went ahead and did without him) and wanted to put a jazz spin on the songs rather than the normal ska -- rekindling all the friction they had in the past for him doing similar things.
Jerry wanted one, and only one, show at the Ricoh and he wanted to do new, jazz-influenced arrangements. Not what most people would've wanted, I'd bet.
Pure class

@JanEgbersNL A man at C and A is about the high street shop and is a generic term for joe normal.Someone who has no effect on anything political.

They were brilliant in Brum this weekend, especially Sunday. I expect they will only get better and better.
The sound is a bit different, but the energy is there, just fantastic.

Terry's voice is developed, smoker or not, this inevitably happens and I love it! Nothing is static but The Specials are timeless.
