Sorry but I was wondering why for the word 'mai' forming a question, i keep hearing two pronunciations everywhere, 'my' and 'may' with the tone rising and falling. Like for example sabaai de mai( may) kha?' and 'khun chop aahaan thai mai( my )?'

Could you help me with it?
