I just listen to Kansas' Song for America, great record! So much soul and blues mixed in with the prog rock. I love Vander Plas...great virtuousity! But the 70's proggy groups were better...sorry.
@ianmackenziedavis While I humbly disagree about who is better, might I suggest their AcCult album, if you've not already given it a listen to. It might be even more to your liking.
@ianmackenziedavis - Can't replace the bands from the 70's, or the 80's, but the fact that bands this good, this young exist is pretty damn good, considering how popular crap like Lady Gaga and Justin Beiber are.
Well it's been a while since somebody posts something. If you do not know the band Conception check it out. I also recommend Evergrey. Please recommend some bands as well. This is the first time I'm listening to this band. It's just awesome!
@juanbestu Recomendations okay. Seventh Wonder, Andromeda, Anubis Gate, Circus Maximus, Ark, Adagio, Ride the Sky, Silent Call, Edenbridge, Anthriel, While Heaven Wept, Opeth, Wolverine, Redemption, Venturia, Fates Warning, Symphony X, Dream Theater. Also there is an internet Radio station devoted to playing prog rock and prog metal, that is called "Progulus" that is a good way to learn of new bands.
Guys, listen to Riverside (as mentioned bellow), Mind Key, Animations (new band from Poland - search for Animations - Demons Of War here)., and Spheric Universe Experience from France. I can bet you'll like them !
i´m a Dream Theater fan, and i really enjoyed Riverside´s music as well as i do enjoy Vanden Plas´ music, which i just discovered yesterday :D (bought 3 albums right away :D)
An incredible and enlightening journey awaits for all who listen to Vanden Plas. I'm beginning this journey for myself, and loving every minute of it.
Listen to some Opeth and Tool, I have a feeling you'd really like them. If you have an affinity for the heavier stuff, Protest the Hero and Between the Buried and Me are also good for a listen. A few other good prog metal bands I haven't seen mentioned here would be Queensryche (Mindcrime albums), 3, and Maudlin of the Well. Also, rock the prog metal. Lovin' this song.
Yeah, Opeth is pretty good, Tool is okay, Queensryche is good, but you should also try listening to Andromeda, Circus Maximus, Rush and Shadow Gallery
I use to listen to Circus Maximus, Rush and Shadow Gallery too! Andromeda I don't know a lot yet, but I'm searching for some songs. Do you know a band called Riverside? They sound pretty good! :P
I am a metal fan from Romania and I hope this band will visit our country, too.I think they are the second progressive-metal band in the world after Dream Theater.Isn't that so?
Such Power and grace this give me endless goosebumps!!!!!!!

though they are a little bit more prog rock than metal, ARK - burn the sun is just killer. Same with this album.
Gharper8619 1 year ago
@Gharper8619 Technically metal is rock, but I see what you're saying, but I have to disagree.
I think the guitars in Vanden Plas are usually distorted and lower, thus making them heavier, as metal is.
Geshien 1 year ago
@Geshien I meant to post this on another video but yeah they are metal.

Amazing song!
For me, there're 3 great progressive bands in the world actually: Vanden Plas, Symphony X and Dream Theater. I like the three, of course!!!
