  • An underrated artist to be sure. The first album was the first purely instrumental I owned. Very nice, soft and beautiful. Chillout and Ambient years before the techno scene even existed.

  • DM has been doing ok in studio, they´ve tried to find colaborations to release descent albums since Alan left, so I think some of these albums sound good IMO. But their live performances don´t seem to be that good, sometimes they don´t look and sound like depeche but a tribute band instead. With Alan they did sound like DM.

  • Can't deny this guy who left.

  • fu

  • yes.like you polaroid ;icture

  • To all the anti-Fletch (or ambivalent-of-Fletch) posters: Gore writes the songs, and Fletch has always been there in the scene. Take Fletch out, and see if Gore is inspired or challenged in the same way. Fletch's contributions don't necessarily have to be so directly connected to the product. Gore may require his presence to do his work. If it ain't broke, it ain't broke :-)

  • It reminds me b-side "Stjarna" from "Little 15" single.

  • Looks like some frames of Andres Fletcher too, and he also has nothing to do with Recoil, it's all Alan Wilder.

  • martin gore had nothing to do with Recoil . not sure why there are frames of him in here .

  • @sYnerGyZniGmA Yeah I was just wondering that too, Martin Gore has no involvement with Recoil.

  • "Martin Gore has no involvement with Recoil"... Martin, Vince, Dave & Fletch are all absolutely integral to Recoil's 1+2 (Best. Depeche. Mode. Remix. Ever.)

  • @taigkyo If that's true, I had no idea - everything I've ever read from Alan Wilder he states that Recoil is his project 100% solo. ? I would be particularly surprised to find Vince (who he replaced) having anything to do with it, but guess anything is possible, eh. Great album regardless!

  • @JERSEYTARPIT, I was working at a record store when Recoil 1st came out (1+2; brilliant record imho!!). I remember the one-sheet explaining that Wilder created the material while on the DM tour bus, on a Portastudio. The sound sources are obviously pulled from DM multitrack tapes - maybe the backing tapes they used on the tour? It's masterfully sampled and cutup. Later Recoil would be Alan with guests outside of DM, but most sound sources for 1+2 are Gore, Gahan, Fletch, Clark & Daniel Miller.

  • good song, shows a small bit of Martin Gore's influence and some Philip Glass. But really shows what he took away from Depeche Mode when he left.Loved seeing him work with Martin Gore again.(song"Somebody" for Teenage Cancer Trust feb.20,2010)

  • maybe I'm not in the mood but hearing this for the first time, does nothing.

  • Good photo sequence. However, I don't fully understand what Martin and Fletch are doing here...

  • . . . the music is great though. excellent compilation. (from another mexican fan)

  • toto dielo od alana je jedno z najlepsich co som v zivote pocul

  • tres philipp glass esque

  • I love it!!!!!!!!!...

  • never heard of this artist. This is some of the best dark ambient music Ive ever heard of. -_-

what else should I listen to from him? Any suggestions?

  • @florencelovme check him out when he was in Depeche Mode!

  • Beautifull.....!

  • I remember buying Hydrology 1+2 back in early 1988 on cassette. It was unusual or the time.

  • I don't mind Fletch, I just wish I knew what he did.

This is a very nice and relaxing song, very cinematic. Alan definitely added a lush and cinematic quality to DM's music, that little extra *something* that made the music so evocative. This is the quality that was lost when he left the band.

  • @cherry88 true oh so true, it's like some sort of texture was lost, and even though i think DM is still a great band it definitely has lost that untouchable tactility..or something

  • Is this the original video?

    Or this video has edited?

    Greats from México.

  • It is not the video original, just my creation

  • @fluxgentium great video

  • it´s Perfect !!!

    Greats from México

  • I love that song

    so mystic

  • Comment removed

  • its PERFECT

    Mr. Emulator (Alan Wilder)

Alan Wilder in Memorys of Depeche Mode

  • it's true something is missing with dm alan was my idol until i met him dead drunk in montreal 1995.

  • ...because he was drunk he's no longer your idol? that sounds pretty lame. might want to add some detail here ... like he slapped your mother or stole your girl for the night ??

  • Um, Alan Wilder has a lot of classical training - often considered the ONLY musician in Depeche Mode with formal training. I saw DM at MSG in NYC this week. I REALLY TRULY INCREDIBLY, felt his muscial absence. The band did him a great disservice, for their sound is good but ALAN MADE IT SO MUCH BETTER. The boys should PAY HIM to come back. Listening to SOFD, you can really hear how thick and juicy those musical beds are. Enjoy the Silence from Violator wouldn't have been what it was w/o Alan.

  • Did you get his autograph? Or pictures with him? Man, that'd be sooo cool to meet him! I don't think it has anything to do with money. Sad to say but Alan will never return with DM. He's way too smart, & too talented to be unappreciated by DM.

  • Fantastic track. I'm still bummed that Alan decided to leave DM - he was phenomenal in the studio. =/

  • You know what? I'm a big fan of both Wilder and DM but I don't find this track interesting at all. There are zero dynamics to the performance. Kinda sounds as if he had no classical music training whatsoever.

  • meh...Alan has openly admitted that he was only mucking about with and it was Dan Miller who convinced him to release it.

  • Alan! Great Work (I've had this one since ages but it still gives me goosebumbs)

  • Happy Birthday to Alan^^

  • Recoil is so underated, I think Alan must feel happy doing whatever he wants by his own, he couldn`t do it being a DM member, I had read the DM´s biographical book and Alan gave his best for the band, and the others didn´t care a great deal, Dave was his only friend in the Band, Mart and Fletch always treated him like a stranger, and he never felt well working like that,

  • Yeah, from watching DM 101 concert, you can see that he was closer to Dave more than the other 2. ALAN IS A GENIUS!!! I love Recoil!! He is underrated as a musician & that's sad. Fletch gets more recognition than him.

  • That makes me so sad - I have to watch 101 again. It has been ages since I have. And what the hell does fletch exactly do anyway? Fletch could have left and there wouldn't have been the same sonic scar as there is now. Anyone else out there go to MSG shows Aug 3rd and 4th? On the surface, much fun - but for any musician and supergeek fan of the band - some songs performed that night felt like they were dragging and in desperate need of Alan Wilder's special touch. God, I MISS ALAN WILDER IN DM!

  • I really miss him a lot too! For some reason, I can't bring myself to listen to the new DM album. AW = DM & DM = AW. Fletch was nothing but a bum & he even admitted it but yet, he had the audacity to criticize Alan's ingenuity.

  • i ASKED aNTON cORBIJN WHY fLETCH WAS IN THE BAND, HIS REPLY: HE'S MARTIN'S FRIEND. TRUE THERE WERE TWO ALLIANCES WITHIN DM. ALSO, ON MANY OCCASIONS IT HAS BEEN SAID THEY WERE NOT GOOD COMMUNICATORS. WHEN DAVE WAS FUCKED, NO ONE BOTHERED TO GO AND SUPPORT HIM. ANTON TOLD ME ALL OF U2 WOULD GO AND TAKE CARE, HE SAID IT WAS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IRISH AND ENGLISH ATTITUDES. CAN'T TELL, I 'M NEITHER.

  • jakubpetricek:

Is this comment coming from you or from Alan? And do you always type in capitals letters? Hmmm? Anyway, thanks for the info but I kinda knew that already.

  • This is Beethowen's moonlight sonata's transcription guys!

  • You mean Beethoven. And no, it's not a transcription. A transcription is like a "copy" of the same score, for different instrument(s). This is perhaps inspired from the Moonlight Sonata, but I'd say it sounds more like St. Jarna, if I were to compare.

  • This is sooooo goood!!!!

  • this song goes under my skin

  • It sounds a lot like Philip Glass, but I love it

  • I'm super super sad that Alan is no longer with DM! But I'm so happy that he made Recoil. This is SIMPLY A MASTERPIECE BY A GENIUS!!

  • Depeche Mode is the best, with alan wilder the best of..... a great man is from DM gone, where are the perfect songs???

  • ALAN JESTEŚ GENIUSZEM !

  • and what a have to do mr gore there?????

  • good job Al

  • Alan has a fascination for me

  • Depeche Mode Is Simply The Best !!!

  • Alan Wilder. Un genio. La sua musica fa sognare...è piena di sentimento. Amo tutto ciò che ha pubblicato.

  • DM i am nothing without Alan.

  • good melody

  • Alan is one of the best

  • Alan C.Wilder-mr.emulator forever.

  • All hail Alan Wilder!

  • Can't help to wonder how much better DM would sound if Alan was still with them. Alan you are and will always be an absolute genius!!

  • i hear this song again and again!

  • Alan is one of the greatest musicians of our era.
