  • Wow. You can hear the record scratches. That's a sound I haven't heard in a long time.

  • @SorrowfulMystery Scratches not from abuse, but from constant play! Cheers!

  • @veryloudarray the hisses and pops of love

  • No wonder I always loved this song. Never realized that was Richard Thompson. Wow...

  • all about - the strangeness of the world when you're facing it alone for the first time, family ties you didn't realize were all you had, the moment-by-moment randomness of life, how you have to take your chance while you can, how fucking wierd it is to be alive when you must make it up as you go along, the pitiful but essential quality of the little patch you call home, unrelieved, strange

  • I always thought my tape had a skip - but there is a weird skip toward the end of the song - This is one of the best (surprise) cassettes I ever bought.

  • I bought this when it came out. I was obsessing over REM and when I heard Stipe sang on this album I bought it immediately. This is the only song I remember. Haven't listened to it for at least 25 years. Christ, I'm old! I actually remember when REM was good! U2, also.

  • thanks much for posting - never knew anything about this song, but it is entrancing in an angsty way -- so that is Richard Thompson, and Michael stipes -- hot damn!

  • @SupernalOne Hot damn, indeed! Amazingly, the GPs have mounted a reunion tour – no big names, but still…darn cool.
