I've gotta say its been nearly 50 years since the moonlanding and interstella space travel is still not a reality! Now they've even stopped sending manned space shuttles into space!!!! What the fuck are you doing NASA!?!?!?!? Such a dissapointment... :'(
I have not seen this movie for some time but I saw it when it came out in 1968 and have loved the movie and the music ever since. Incidentally I am 52 and boy I'll tell you Stanley Kubrick was genius to make such a visually pleasing science fiction movie, way ahead of his time. The anagram HAL was great-H to I A to B and L to M, years before IBM was really popular or the invention of the PC or the advent of the internet.
@sammysamsamxxx why don't you like the movie? it's about the human development, alien technology and the development of the species in the universe as one whole
@emyllsomar Albeit I was birthed via Cesarean section, so there was no screaming of pain from my mother. It was more or less like... opening pod bay doors. lol.
What is so amazing about this movie is, how they portray space travel. Not filled with lasers, robots and aliens, but this subtle... Emptiness. You fill it in with your imagination of what MIGHT be out there. It's incredible really.
What's amazing is that it was made in 68, before we went into space and not only is not dated in any way, but puts pretty much all other fils too shame.
@Zlagie except when a fetal, godlike incarnation of Dave manifests itself beyond the reaches of time and zaps back into our atmosphere whilst his true projection is left in a dimensional limbo all because of a smooth monolith that lands on our earth and moon...other than that, yea there's a lot left to the imagination
kubrick got nasa to lend him the super super zeiss camera to fill 2002 at least i came across that when i read about the movie..a favorite of course and the dawn of man always gives me chills..even before lucy!
I love this movieand this video. Stanley was WAAAAAAY ahead of his time. There was a book that came out then about the making of the movie. Like I said Stanley was way ahead of his time with all the special effects, music and story. People just didn't understand what it was about. I think they still don't. In two words .... Time Continuum.
Yes I am a space nut... ever since high school . But they are not laughing at me now.............
'Also Sprach Zarathustra' by Richard Strauss will always be remembered as the opening theme to this film. Brilliant ! - as are the waltzes (by Johannes Strauss) that Kubrick uses through out the film.
