There's so much to this, the danger of intolerance from those who fear change, the multiversal possibilities of worlds within worlds, the existential dielmma of proving one's own existence, it's wonderful to see such high ideas in children's media with subtle complexity and a spark of imagination rather than pandering.
And an excellent moral you've all heard before, I suppose there's no harm in repeating once more. Be good to each other because after all a person is a person no matter how small.
jo jo is better in the 08 one in this one he sounded more like a mommas boy sorry to say but 08 jo jo is the best!!!! and looks more like a "who" then this one did this one looked like a human lol
It's SO good to see this story unspoiled by the presence of Jim Carrey. Horton here is innocent and lovable as he should be, not loud and obnoxious as Carrey makes him.
ok maybe i should just stick to my own time period nd leave my heart with the '08 Jojo. hes the first one i saw anyways and is soooooooo adorable but this one is kinda creapy. did dr seuss make the Jojo in this program or the hot one in the new movie?
so do i! except mines name is called Clyde. hes got the same personality and everything. i'm his only friend and the only one he talkes to except his parents. i love him but dont express it
You big gray elephant, clean out your ears. The rules have been made very unkindly clear. They're boiling your dust speck in a black pot. Cause fool, they'll be no more talking to Whos who are not. Dont fall off that cliff side, you'll land on your tush. The Whickersham brothers look like George Bush. Dont think you're above the law like O.J. He didnt escape, so you wont get away. Blow out some boogers, or blow out some snot. But there will be absolutely no more talking to Whos who are not!
yea so i like that in this jojo is like 2 and in the movie he is like an emo teen. and i also love that this is basically telling the world that if someone is crazy u should lock them up in a cage... nice one dr. s =D
guys don't you read this was back in the 1970's the 2008 movie they made for the 2000 kids not the kids born in 1989 that is why jojo looks the way he does
XD Lol. I like the new version of Jojo, better, but I agree with whoever said before me that without the book or this version of him, there would be no Jojo.
And, yeah. I think the new one was made to look like Dwayne from "Little Miss Sunshine" because like Dwayne he doesn't speak until like, the climax of the movie. And plus, Steve Carrel was in LMS too, so yeah lol.
Though, out of all the Jojo's, I like the Seussical version of him the best XDDDD
Dr. Seuss actually threatened to sue an anti-abortion group for using that phrase. He's highly pro-choice and so is his wife. Personally I think the fact that anti-abortion groups are using a phrase coined by someone who's actively pro-choice is a bit hypocritical and highly uncreative of them.
Actually it shows that "Dr. Suess" was the one who was hypocritical, refusing to act on what he intrinsically knew to be the truth, as shown by his own children's book. There seem to be a lot of people like that. You can't say in one moment that you believe that "a person's a person no matter how small" then be prochoice. He's contradicting himself. The pro-lifers are just the ones who actually believe what they say.
You seem to forget that every living thing is a "collection of cells". The fact is that science can pinpoint no other place for the beginning of life than conception. Everything else afterward is just a stage of development like any other. Are we now going to say that humans are less valuable and less deserving of protection the younger they are in development?
That's just a game of semantics. There's a point at which a collection of cells is developed enough where it can be called a "developing human." I wouldn't call (pardon the crudeness) semen a developing human, just like I wouldn't call the regularly discarded eggs a developing human. It's little pieces that eventually CAN make a human. And in the early stages when they are combined, it's still just "stuff" that doesn't develop human characteristics for some time.
But it's not semantics, it's the facts. Semen doesn't develop, and neither do unfertilized eggs; you're right those are the things that CAN make humans. But a fertilized egg is not something that COULD be human with the right ingredients. It is human, and if we say that younger, less developed humans are less valuable and don't have a right to live in and of themselves, we have to be ready to apply that to *everything* in every situation. Otherwise it IS semantics and hypocrisy to boot.
Personaly, I think they were acctualy refering to different races. You know, everyone's equal, no matter if they're black, white, ext. Plus, this doesn't refer to if someone threatens your life. Even if a fetus is a person, they still have the same restrictions that comes with their lives, along with the right to life. A pregnant woman can claim that the fetus is a threat ot her life and wellbeing, therefor making abortion a form of self defence.
Whoa there! Isn't it just child psychology? It's a children's story, so wouldn't it be more plausible to assume that it's supposed to give children a sense of self importance? That they matter? That they're people, too, even though they're smaller and not easily heard? ..Why the hell would you involve racial politics, pregnant women or abortion in a children's tale? I, sir, believe that YOU should be roped and caged! :P You may want to getr your WHOS checked.(Whacky Hasty Overanalytical Syndrom)
This was written by a guy who saw WWII, what the hell do you think its about...
Plus the message is about how political or social movements need EVERYBODY to take part in them to suceed, even the smallest people, or indeed, the smallest of the smallest.
Its also about faith in something you cant hear or see or smell.
The newer one is more entertaining however and JoJo is insanely adorable. And the mayor is amazing!
Yeah, there are two things that disappoint me about this, the original version: 1) Rudy is a tool and 2) Jojo seemed a little less serious/important. He just shows up randomly in this one, no story behind him or anything. That's why I can appreciate the remake. I thought the scenes with Horton dancing or doing crazy things were unnecessary, the ending where they all sing "Can't fight this feeling" made me a bit mad, but I did like how they gave certain characters more personality.
It's not at all about "faith in something you cant hear or see or smell" , it's about being open minded and not making arrogant assumptions before you examine things closely.
Horton believes in a Who because he hears one. And he hears one because he has big ears and he really listens. The others neither have big ears nor they even try to hear, they just deny it because it doesn't fit into their understanding. So it's about curiosity and an open mind.
Oh jeez, the anti-abortion stuff has so got to stop. What, just cause the speck is white and it's home to millions it's talking about Sperm!. I see now where they get that impression but seriously, the persons protesting abortions are kissers of the ass of god and nothing more.
if they take away abortions then it's only a matter of time before it's condoms too, and then we'll be left with a world filled with aids.
Actually I just sent a link to this video to someone I know, because people dismiss scientists who question the current HIV/AIDS theory, without even listening to what they're saying. It just seems incomprehensible that the mainstream scientists can be wrong about something that important.
If you want to know what I mean google "The Other Side of AIDS" or "The Perth Group" or "Rethinking AIDS".
So no, we wouldn't probably die of AIDS, but it would still be pretty troubling I agree.
Jesus...all the Jojo fanatic kids just don't think things through. Hello? Can you give some respect? If not for this Jojo, nor the one from the original book, the new movie one would NOT, repeat, NOT exist. So clam up already and think before you state an opinion. ._.;
also in the BOOK Horton contacts the mayor, not the scientist. And Jojo looked different in the book aswell. and he never tried to figure out what to say. the mayor grabbed him, dragged him to the top of the tower and Jojo just went "Yopp"
so this cartoon has its differences from the book as well as the new movie.
As for Jojo, i do like his persona better in the new movie than in this one. and its not all "omfg hes emo! therefore hes cute!"
i was always into the quiet, misunderstood but heroic characters. thats just me. Plus i do not like calling Jojo an emo. His character design is suited for his personality. But i do think Blue Sky sort of loosely pushed him in that "emo" direction so he could be more "relatable".
i know i dont the whole label type in general it is just as u said sterotype its the same to say mexicans are wetbacks whites are rich and all asians are smart(which i never would)
I think its really because purple is a color that denotes Royalty (and she does enfore every rule in the jungle) and easier on the eyes than Bile Yellow.
I think I can safely say that I love both versions, just in different ways. Both were well done and great for the medium they were made for. (and for the time they were made)
ckat, your comment is the best I've read so far. I love the remake because I found it a bit more dramatic, but you're right, there's no problem liking both versions.
So glad they changed JoJo for the film, hes way cooler now. Plus i remember in the film when the sour kangaroo went to see Vlad and she said she would go see the Wickersham brothers instead and he said there not scary, but in this version, they kinder are creepy looking with those eyes.

the phrase is "a PERSON is a PERSON no matter how small" a collection of cells isn't a person. it's a collection of cells.
thegamerkrim 3 years ago
You seem to forget that every living thing is a "collection of cells". The fact is that science can pinpoint no other place for the beginning of life than conception. Everything else afterward is just a stage of development like any other. Are we now going to say that humans are less valuable and less deserving of protection the younger they are in development?
EstherPryne 3 years ago
That's just a game of semantics. There's a point at which a collection of cells is developed enough where it can be called a "developing human." I wouldn't call (pardon the crudeness) semen a developing human, just like I wouldn't call the regularly discarded eggs a developing human. It's little pieces that eventually CAN make a human. And in the early stages when they are combined, it's still just "stuff" that doesn't develop human characteristics for some time.
thegamerkrim 3 years ago
But it's not semantics, it's the facts. Semen doesn't develop, and neither do unfertilized eggs; you're right those are the things that CAN make humans. Jojo is best left as an innocent child who saved the town instead of some weird, mute, moody kid who only talks at the end. ORIGINAL JOJO ROCKS!

Puglab is right. I'm kinda tired of fangirls calling Jojo emo just to make him seem hot in their eyes.
