About the cracking, it IS a known issue. Silver only? I'm not sure, mine is silver and getting repaired as we speak.

The additional megapixels might be a point, but how can you say the omnia has a better screen it's one of the most low-res there is WQVGA (240x400 pixels) and the Xperia together with the touch HD has got the best and sharpest screen available WVGA (800x480 pixels) so how can you say it has a worse screen then the omnia?

Well maybe s/he is referring to sunlight legibility or touch response. HTC screens are well known for poor sunlight legibility but I doubt there's anything to complain about on the touch front.

No kidding. A rep from SE's PR firm suggested the old one we had contained less RAM than the current models, but that's not the case.  Both have what appear to be 200MB of application RAM. But the speed difference is obvious, so perhaps it was just a firmware issue.

I think this is a big issue for Sony. I mean, if they are sending out review units that are faulty I am sure there are also customers who are receiving faulty units. Plus, when a consumer sees that there are issues with a product line, along with a hefty price tag, it is really hard to justify a purchase.

The only reason why its so expensive stateside is that no carrier is offering it. You have to buy it unlocked and pay the full unsubsidised price.
