Speaking as a person who was raised ultra fundamentalist and who is now a liberal Christian, it is accurate for me to say that Dr. James Dobson and his Focus on the Family company were a thorn in my side during my teen years.

Actually gay people did have the right to marry in California so yes prop 8 did take away there rights. Gay marriage is a civil rights issue and religion should have no part in it. I don't think its a matter of very many people opposing Christianity as a faith. Many, many wonderful people are self-described Christians. I think that the thing that irks people is how some (and I emphasize some) people who call themselves "Christian" seem to hold the right of each and every American to the pursuit of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness in complete contempt. This is simply anti-American, and I for one have zero tolerence for it.

That is one book I have not read. Many years ago, I read Dare to Discipline. I do not recall any specifics about that book. In most cases, physical discipline is used when parents or dog owners are angry. That is not a good time to discipline (teach). Many forms of teaching animals do not use physical punishment.

I've seen videos where social scientists have told Dobson they do not want him ever citing them again, because he has misused and twisted their studies to say things the studies did not say. When people go on camera to make those comments, there is a serious problem. Dobson's professional ethics have been called into question. As far as I know, he has not launched a saw suit for defamation, so I suspect there is some truth to their concerns.

All charities and not-for-profits groups are suffering in the recession. So are most for-profit businesses. Correlation between financial difficulty in this current environment to support for a group's efforts is really misguided. If anything, Obama's current policy attempts and lack of real results are bolstering the conservative position in the US.

Actually gay people did have the right to marry in California so yes prop 8 did take away there rights. Gay marriage is a civil rights issue and religion should have no part in it. If the individual churches say they don't want to marry gays that's there right to do so. But the government has no right to tell you who you can and can't marry.

That is one book I have not read. Many years ago, I read Dare to Discipline. I do not recall any specifics about that book. In most cases, physical discipline is used when parents or dog owners are angry. That is not a good time to discipline (teach). Many forms of teaching animals do not use physical punishment.

Democratic socialism might not be exactly correct. They're government really isn't all that dissimilar to the U.S., they have a capitalist market, they have elected representatives at all levels of government, and the people own property. The main difference is that they have more taxes, and those taxes fund social programs. They have things like national healthcare, maternity leave, unemployment, safety-nets in other words.

I think you're forgetting about philosophy. Many of the moral concepts that humanity leans on whose origins are claimed by religion, are actually the product of philosophy. If you ask me, religion being abandoned just means one less tool that the opulent and powerful have to manipulate and control the masses. I've seen videos where social scientists have told Dobson they do not want him ever citing them again, because he has misused and twisted their studies to say things the studies did not say. When people go on camera to make those comments, there is a serious problem. Dobson's professional ethics have been called into question. As far as I know, he has not launched a saw suit for defamation, so I suspect there is some truth to their concerns.
