'Facts' had a short summer tryout run from August to September of '79. It returned in March 1980 to finish out its first season, since the show did well the previous summer.
I love the scene in which Blair and Mrs. G. slap each other's butts! They both had such sexy rears and the cloths that they wore did a great job of showing them off! I was also very filled up by the sense of female bonding!
Ah, the birth of the Friday night death slot. Casey Kasem must have been shaking his head wondering "how the **** am I supposed to promote this ****? I mean, it's about a ****ING DOG on a DYING show! ****ing ponderous, man. This dog is from Canada and no one gives a ****!"
@ScottyA222 - That's because there was only so many channels back in those days. Cable was still in its infancy and so was the VCR. You really didn't have many options to watch back then.
Pink Lady and Jeff brought an end to the Variety Show format that used to be all over the networks during the 60s and 70s, which was a VERY GOOD thing. For those who were too young or wasn't born at that time, replace Variety Shows with Reality Shows and you get the idea of what it was like.
i remember the shows, i never remember PINK LADY & JEFF till a book came out (have the dvd's) I remember these type of promos but I dont remember THIS!!! WOW!!!
It was Molly and three other girls, Nancy, Cindy and Sue Ann. They held pretty minor roles on the show, although there was some conflicts between Cindy and Blair.
To be honest, they did the right decision to let them go and instead have Jo on the show.
Thank god The Facts of Life made it NINE years! Rather than the other two comedies featured prolly lasted about two weeks or by today's standards, barely the half hour they first showed up in.
Actually, Sid Caesar, in his 1983 autobiography, confirmed the fact that Mei and Kei {"Pink Lady"} COULDN'T speak a word of English. He was on several of their shows, and got around the language problem in the comedy sketches by using his "double talk" Japanese and gestures. THAT they understood. Casey Kasem WAS NBC's promo announcer during that period.
I remember "Pink Lady"--if I remember correctly, the Asian women couldn't speak English and just agreed with everything Jeff said. I remember "Here's Boomer"--it cashed in on the "Benji" craze--and of course, FOL--the first season, in my opinion, was THE BEST (*ducks*).
No, not Jay Leno. I wish I knew his name, but he was the NBC "voice" until the late 80s or so? Anyway, it was all worth it for the Blair shot. Ah, Blair ... :)
I know, I know. I cringe that I typed that comment: #1 - not reading what was right there in bold print, and #2, not knowing it was Casey to begin with. Oh, well. As Elvis once said, "Everybody's entitled to one stupid ass mistake once in a while."
This is the promo for the 2nd episode of "Pink Lady & Jeff". The 1st episode aired on Sat., Mar. 1, and they held the 2nd show off until 2 Fridays later on the 14th.
This is a different version of the theme, which was only used in NBC promos. If you notice, it plays the notes of the 1st-year theme. I believed they kept using this music until well into the Jo years!
You are correct. They used an instrumental version of the first season theme until 1985 when they switched to the end credits of the re-recorded rock-styled theme.
Yep, it matches the lyrics "There's a place you gotta go for learning all you wanna know about The Facts of Life, The Facts of Life. When your books are what you're there about, but looks are what you care about, the time is right to learn The Facts of Life."
Yep I'm looking for more Here's Boomer stuff too! There's an episode where he's at like a haunted mansion and Bull from Night Court is doing a creepy dance.
Wow, what a line-up!

I thought "Facts of Life" came on in August 1979. Would'nt the show already be well into its first season by that time?
NBC didn't get back on track until 1982.

I think you have to remember that there weren't nearly as many cable alternatives back then, so the networks expected higher viewership.
