  • sweet video man. I actually liked the solo in this one better than the preview. I've got two questions though that you might be able to answer:

    1. at the very last part (at 12:30 in your video), I can never make out those notes, nor the exact rhythm. I kinda play a mesh of triplets on D and A... how do you play that part?

    2. do you know anything about the background solo during the recorded version? is it just tremolo? it seems really fast, but I can't tell if it's following the time sig

  • @Allitnils PM sent.

  • Man you nailed that song that was a masterpiece you did man can you tell me what kind of amps you use and some of the gear you use

  • @NAVYSEALRETURNS1 Thanks...I worked very hard on it. I've got a full gear list on my channel :).

  • I'm watching this the morning after having seen Tool live. Still fresh off that post-show buzz I'm just amazed at your spot-on homage to my favorite song. Well done bud! Excellent work on getting the effects and tone PERFECT! You have an amazing ear as well as talent. Looking forward to checking out more of your stuff.

  • @latenightloki Oh, man...lucky sucker :). I missed this one :(. I know that buzz...lasts for a while luckily. Quiet a compliment...I really appreciate it and it means a lot. I love Adam's style/tone and am constantly amazed by it...I learn something with each and every cover. Thanks for the props!

  • Nice cover man, the annotations really help :)

    Accurate rendition, love it!

  • @sanderd Hey thanks man. Haven't heard from you for a while...see you got some new vids. Don't know how I missed them...I'll go check them out :).

  • this guy needs more views!!!! hot damn!

  • @tystewar Thanks! Seems to get around 20 views a day, lol.

  • Man o man..right around 10:08 your tone and everything is perfect for that climax in the song. Agreeably probably the best cover of this song on youtube. Awesome tone and awesome playing. Such an amazing underrated song. Thanks for the awesome cover(s).

  • @wyomingdipper270 Wow! What an awesome compliment/comment. Makes all the hard work worth it when people enjoy watching and take the time to comment...thank you very much!!!

  • wow, i was smiling start to finish dude! I think u did a great job of playing the song, but more impressive is the tone i appreciate the amount of effort and dedication you put into your covers and the attention to details and subtlety. u can tell u put a lot of heart into this one it really does the song justice. I know sections to this song and defintely not try to figure out and record them while trying to quit smoking... lol. which is harder quiting or learning this song?

  • @TheMrjohhnyonthespot Ha, thanks bud...means a whole lot that you liked it :). Yes, I worked very, very, hard to get this song as close as I could...and I think I finally burned myself out a bit. I'm still playing, practicing, and planning to record...just not at the same pace as before. And yes, you're right...don't know what I was thinking, lol; trying to learn this monster while I couldn't think straight was tough :D. Happy New Year to you, friend :).

  • this is kind of off topic but i was wondering how does it affect to the sound of the guitar if i take mic cover off? Does it make pick harmonics easier? sry for my english its bad.

  • @Landejussi No problem. I think you're speaking of the guitar "pickup" cover. I'm not sure of the effect...the one I'm using in the bridge didn't come with a cover. It is a simple procedure to remove the cover....try it out and see what you think.

    J

  • Fucking awesome, man! Although at around 6:15 you should be playing a G# as well.

  • @gazbostuart Wow, thanks. I had to look up G#, lol. On the studio track, if you listen carefully, you can here a change in tone and volume at 6:37. I've been listening to this song for years and never heard it until now...blew me away. Maybe a chord change, but I felt it was the EQ being turned on, so that's the way I played it. Live, Adam plays the same chord from 6:01-6:54 with the same effects/volume, I believe.

  • awesome man, just awesome. Good stamina on the song. Impressive system you've got

  • @northey420 Thank you. Ya, this song is like a decathlon, lol.

    J

  • Wow. Awesome job Joe. I wasn't sure if you were gonna tackle this one or give up on it! You even nailed the tonality of the feedback. Glad you dedicated this to your dad. I don't think you could have picked a better one to dedicate. I think your thoughts of him come through in your playing and that's what music is all about.

  • @TheDescried Hey friend, thanks a lot! Praise from you means a lot :). Ya, I was just starting to get this song down when things went crazy around here. I actually recorded this on Nov. 2nd, but was first unsure if I wanted to upload it and then unable to upload it because of internet issues when I decided that it wasn't going to get much better. Looking back at it and listening to the words...you're right. It does fit :).

    J

  • Dude, you're a pro!!!!!

It's amazing how you're able to replicate Adam's sounds and i'm pretty sure he'd be honored to see this.

I've got a question though, how are you able to get that feedback? It's all about the gain, right?

  • @phobiaspasm Ha! Thanks man! I try :). I love all the subtlety of Adam's style, feedback, etc. As for the feedback, it's not really just gain; both amps are around 12:00. It's more Boost than anything. The MXR Micro AMP and the EQ both boost the signal. I'm also sitting right in front of the amps. And finally, the pickup/speaker combination play a role. Check out my channel for a specific list of gear used.

    J

  • @JosephMCorbett Woah! That's some top dollar gear mate, good job on getting it all together ay! Looking forward to seeing you cover ticks and leeches soon, it happens to be my favorite song on the guitar.

  • Awesome ! been waiting for this :D

  • @SkinnyPuppy208 Glad you liked it :).

    J

  • total siccness yo :D hell ya so epic

  • @daddysbabe17 :D.

    J

  • Wow man! I think that was he best cover on here yet. Even beat out that opiateofthemasses guy LOL how many takes? 13.5 minutes is a lot of time to mess up LOL especially with all those effects! Great Job!!!!!! =D

  • @spider5001 Hey bud, thanks a lot. Wow, that's high praise...that's one of my favorite covers. Lots of takes :). Basically, I get to a point where I know how I'm going to play it and I try to play it the same way every time...practice :). That's when I start recording...I'll play the song 3 or 4 times every day and record what I'm doing. If I get a good one, I know it, and I'm done. Otherwise I continue the next day, and so on, for as long as it takes. This is just how I do it :).

    J

  • FINALLY THE WHOLE THING! Sounds great.... the feedback is perfect! The whole articulation of this song is hard to nail... you did it real justice!

  • @DMTfabric Ya, this one took me forever; don't know what happened...used to have all the time in the world :(. Thanks bud :D...means a lot.

    J

  • I know what you mean by trying to get better at the song and find yourself getting worse. I think it's because of a couple things, frustration, stamina, and more importantly the more you pay attention to parts that needing working on, the more you neglect the other parts you covered and just sort of freeze up on them.

  • Amazing man! You tone has improved so much over every video and you've mastered that yummy feedback! I know these songs are hard but you make them look easy. A lot to admire! Very few errors, and the solo sound exactly the same as I heard last. Just one mistake during the progression but nothing most people will notice. And congrats on quieting smoking! My dad was suppose to at 50, but yeah well, you know :P And your dad's in a better place now friend. Best of wishes to you and your father :)

  • @StevenzGuitarCovers Hey bud thanks...glad you liked it. Know you've been waiting...didn't want to disappoint :). Eeek, my Dad's still here thank goodness :). Just wanted to give a shout out to him as he's been on my mind with what he's been going through. Thanks again for the great compliments...much appreciated :D.

    J

  • @JosephMCorbett Wherever your dad is, is a better place! HAHA, I thought you told me differently, YIKES! So happy he's fine. How's he doing? No problem on the compliments. Just hope you get to Parabola soon enough :) Glad I can help on the main riff! I know you'll put it into good use.

  • Finally :) Really nice work! Your sound is really close to Adam's in this one. You managed to get the messed-up parts of your teaser video right. I didn't spot anything to criticize

Any plans on your next cover?

Also, congrats on quitting smoking :P (grammar?) You don't look 40 to me lol

    Keep up the good work!

  • @fatandshort I know, right...sorry for the delay :(. I've also had some internet connection/speed issues...I've actually tried to upload this a few times over the last week or so :(. Thanks for the compliments :). Probably going to revisit "Prison Sex" next. That sounds weird, lol. Trying to get some of my earlier covers a little better in between these monsters, lol. Thanks again bud!

    J

  • @JosephMCorbett Oh nice :D Prison sex isn't my favourite song to listen to by them, but by far my favourite one to play :)
