I enjoyed the film as a kid and have watched it like some 8 times. It has a superb soundtrack that I have and Maurice Jarre, of whom composed the soundtrack for "Enemy Mine"

(1985 ), is a true genius well exemplified in this soundtrack! A great touching and moving film! Truly 80's!!! Are those primitive people primitive in such environments or are they pristine to that of politics by the blessing in disguise for its very absence? I praise such people. True survivors.

I thought the Mosquito Coast was great...Harrison Ford had so much promise in creating a utopia, but, it failed...

The concept of Mosquito Coast was taken from another movie from the 1930s starring Joan Crawford called Rain, which had almost the same concept, abeit very different outcomes.

The concept was taken from the book, The Mosquito Coast which was written in 1981 - 1982 by Paul Theroux. I'm reading it at the moment.

The book is quite good. Haven't seen the whole movie but I've been told it gets crap towards the end.

Maybe the concept of the book was taken from Rain ? I haven't seen it...

Theroux is probably one of the most underrated writers of our time. He's written tons of good books, even if you take out the travel books, there's still a lot of really good material.
