i think lea meant that artists in our country did not have to go through what charice went through inorder to be known and recognized for her talents, of the producers and the music industry of this country invests in the right talents. because we do have lots of talents. although they may not be as great as charice, or be talented in other specialties, but fact is, we do have tons of talented people who dont have enough resources (roads and/or internet) and influence to make it anywhere.

@pergam7 Have been chaddicted ever since I saw her in her first Star King appearance. The quality of her voice, her on stage personality and charisma as she played and danced with those on stage were mind boggling for such a young girl. That little performance alone told me she can act. I am sure we are all in for a major treat when she returns to Glee.

There was never a day that I did not watch a video of Charice since I saw her on Star King And we are not the only ones in awe of this young lady- most respected musicians and artists concur that her talent is exceptional. But we shouldn't compare her too much with other singers for sometimes it can work negatively for her . My opinion and I'm sure your's Charice is the best live singer in the world today!

Charice is the only singer i know in the Philippines who is mostly going to succed in the US as a singer because she can really really sing and she is very unique and can sing any genre. I think Lea Salonga is flat out wrong when she said there are many singers like Charice in the PHilippines. I have seen and heard them all, and i have yet to see someone who is as good as Charice. So far, none of them have came close.

They have to know that Charice tried convincing David Foster and even tried to show him some clips of so called talented singers of the Philippines, but I think David Foster was not convinced, if he was he should have got back here and look for these "talented singers".
It doesn’t matter to me if there’s a singer who’s ‘better’. Yes, there’s probably a singer with a wider vocal range, or can dance better, or whatever. However, none possess the unique qualities that make Charice such a compelling force to reckon with – both as a singer and as a person.
Charice is special and she’s perfect enough for me; she’s got me... my allegiance is to her regardless of who’s out there.
i totally agree with ms. lea salonga. there's a lot of great singers in this country. unfortunately, some filipino producers don't seem to realize that. they invest on people who don't even have the singing talent (i.e. judy ann santos). the funny thing is those so called singers are getting platinum records! ridiculous! fortunately for charice, it took a korean show, then ellen and then eventually oprah, for her to get the big break she deserves.
@spawnkiddo Aside from her vocal talent, ability to dance & unbelievable stage presence, Charice is all about an indefatigable spirit & will of never giving up. She is a product of her mom's up bringing & numerous obstacles she had to overcome as a child living in poverty.Like DNA u cannot duplicate the latter, so for them to say what they did tells me they have yet to understand who Charice truly is. Charice, is NOT the standard of Talent in PI or in the world, she is the exception to the rule.

A talent like Charice comes once in a blue moon & to say there are others like her (w/out showing proof) is demeaning to Charice. there's so many talented singers here in the philippines,it's like the whole people in the philippines can sing,can hit high notes,who can cover a songs pretty well but there's something on Charice's vocals that they don't have,i can't explain it..it's like when you hear Charice singing,it's like you dont want to stop listening to her,her vocal texture s unique and dense that is very rare for an asian singer,yeah many can do high notes a dozen a dime but few are learn to use der voice w/ mastery

@spawnkiddo Glad that you did it in detail. I also thought that some missed the point Ms Salonga was trying to emphasize. I am an avid fan of Charice. I met her in Manila, Toronto & Las Vegas. I realized that even how talented Charice is, a complete package indeed, she won't go anywhere without DF & Oprah. It is esp true also in Manila without the support of the producers, the talented ones (maybe less talented then Charice) will not make it. It was Lea who said Cha is insanely talented.

what's stopping you & all the ms saigon alumni from espousing certain proteges and teaching them singing techniques that you have learned and helping them to find their strengths? you don't have to spend any money to do this and it will not take a lot of effort especially if it's done as a group effort. we already have an example of how efren penaflorida was able to do it with the little he had.
we all know that charice happens to have a mom who is a vocal coach of the highest calibre, whose coaching skills it is now apparent are worth millions of dollars.
ms lea i want to think that this is not just lip service coming from you & that you actually feel passionate about helping upcoming talents. not all of us have the same superpowers you have but perhaps you are caught up in your own daily life that you have not had a chance to think about how you can help. these talents do not come fully developed, they have to be nurtured and directed by good teachers into being the best they can be.
I have lot's of respect for Ms. Leah Salonga but her comment about many other talents in the Philippoines as good as Chaice is simply not true. There might be several in the Philippines that are as talented vocally but nothing can match the confluence of fortuitous events, serendipity if you will, that has raised Charice into the internet and cultural phenomena that she is. Charice is a child of destiny. Her story, her spirit, her drive and her personality is what made her successful. Hard to believe but her rich voice, as magnificent as it is, is only secondary. Fly high in 2011 Charice.

I believe Lea was trying to stress a point, initially, - the sorry state of the Phil.'s music industry and how they do business. But I think they, specifically the interviewers (we have to remember they drive/own the show), went overboard and lost ground with their original thesis when they didn't move beyond or didn't backed-up that non-factual claim. True, there are a lot of good Phil. singers but not as good as Charice. To say w/o proof diminishes Charice as well as the players in this video.
There's not 4 or 5 other more charice's in the PI, come on now. Charice is a once of a generation singer. There are other good singers in the PI, but the "IT" factor they dont have to make as a world class talent.

Lea's forgot she's on the air, she's hitting the Americans (who helped her too for who she was now) indirectly, for paying a lot of attention to Charice. sure there are a lot of talented singer here in the Philippines, but no one can match Charice's charisma and incredible unique voice. I have to agree with Lea Salonga though I am a super big Chaster. Let's admit that there are many very good singers in the Philippines. Even Charice has admitted this on an interview. She even asked David to watch Youtube with her to listen to other good singers in the Philippines telling him that she is not the only one. However, I have to say that Charice, at this moment, is the most talented of them all. She has proven herself so much that other singers would have to try so hard to reach her.
The Philippines has many good singers with real talent. But I do not think/hear any artists with Charice's caliber. She has this charisma when singing, especially on live performances.
Goosebumps & tears never fail to show up when Charice does ballads, powerful big songs.
Her voice has this certain timbre that makes you feel the message of the song.

I grew up in the Phls and was very active in the music world but never heard or know of anybody else who has a singing talent like Charice. Yeah there are a lot of female singers there now but mostly average talentwise. Charice is the only Pinay singer that can give me goosebumps and that's a hard feat to do. I guarantee that.
lea Salonga, pls run in congress to represent philippines performing arts, it's seems that we have sports representative in congress but never have performing arts. So it's good to hear that lawmakers work for an allowance and awards to World Champions especially in boxing but how about in performing arts, how about our famous artists that raise our flag abroad. Yes we have so many good artists, PH can use these artists to promote tourism in our country.

@tuberose10100 Lea has no one to bow down to. Charice and Lea are famous in completely different genres - Lea in musical theatre and Charice in pop. Charice is a talented singer, but in order for her to be an artist, she needs to stop imitating other singers - David Foster even said that she's good at mimicking other singers - and sing more songs that suit her age. "All by Myself" isn't an appropriate song for an eighteen-year-old to sing.

i use to live outside the Philippines & i have Phil-tv channels i've seen old & fresh talents but none of them gave much impact or showed something to be reckoned with.

i think lea meant that artists in our country did not have to go through what charice went through inorder to be known and recognized for her talents, of the producers and the music industry of this country invests in the right talents. because we do have lots of talents. although they may not be as great as charice, or be talented in other specialties, but fact is, we do have tons of talented people who dont have enough resources (roads and/or internet) and influence to make it anywhere.

certainly not insulting you. Just overreacted earlier from other comments (not yours), and I'm sorry for it. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. But it is still clear and not out of context what Leah and the interviewer said - 'there are lots of singers in the Philipppines as good as Charice' - and that's where I don't agree. Peace to all, sorry for my outburst.

@pergam7 That is why I wrote what I did cause I too do not believe "there are lots of singers in PI as good as Charice." I have seen many concerts in my life and have listened to many singers and no one has ever blown me away like Charice.

@pergam7 Have been chaddicted ever since I saw her in her first Star King appearance. The quality of her voice, her on stage personality and charisma as she played and danced with those on stage were mind boggling for such a young girl. That little performance alone told me she can act. I am sure we are all in for a major treat when she returns to Glee.

There was never a day that I did not watch a video of Charice since I saw her on Star King And we are not the only ones in awe of this young lady- most respected musicians and artists concur that her talent is exceptional. But we shouldn't compare her too much with other singers for sometimes it can work negatively for her . My opinion and I'm sure your's Charice is the best live singer in the world today!

Charice is the only singer i know in the Philippines who is mostly going to succed in the US as a singer because she can really really sing and she is very unique and can sing any genre. I think Lea Salonga is flat out wrong when she said there are many singers like Charice in the PHilippines. I have seen and heard them all, and i have yet to see someone who is as good as Charice. So far, none of them have came close.

They have to know that Charice tried convincing David Foster and even tried to show him some clips of so called talented singers of the Philippines, but I think David Foster was not convinced, if he was he should have got back here and look for these "talented singers".

It doesn’t matter to me if there’s a singer who’s ‘better’. Yes, there’s probably a singer with a wider vocal range, or can dance better, or whatever. However, none possess the unique qualities that make Charice such a compelling force to reckon with – both as a singer and as a person.
Charice is special and she’s perfect enough for me; she’s got me... my allegiance is to her regardless of who’s out there.

i totally agree with ms. lea salonga. there's a lot of great singers in this country. unfortunately, some filipino producers don't seem to realize that. they invest on people who don't even have the singing talent (i.e. judy ann santos). the funny thing is those so called singers are getting platinum records! ridiculous! fortunately for charice, it took a korean show, then ellen and then eventually oprah, for her to get the big break she deserves.

@spawnkiddo Aside from her vocal talent, ability to dance & unbelievable stage presence, Charice is all about an indefatigable spirit & will of never giving up. She is a product of her mom's up bringing & numerous obstacles she had to overcome as a child living in poverty.Like DNA u cannot duplicate the latter, so for them to say what they did tells me they have yet to understand who Charice truly is. Charice, is NOT the standard of Talent in PI or in the world, she is the exception to the rule.

A talent like Charice comes once in a blue moon & to say there are others like her (w/out showing proof) is demeaning to Charice. Both should have qualified their statement in the context of investigating the possibility of other Charices as opposed to saying with certainty they exist. Believe me I have been looking for the last 2yrs & can't find her. Yes, there is talent in the world but not like Charice.

When it comes it singing talent, they always name drop Charice's as "the next Charice...". Why can't they just show their talents and build their own identity. Charice has already made it in her own way. Now, Charice is Charice! She never followed the path to be dubbed as "the next Lea Salonga". Becuase by far, Lea is now JUST NEXT TO CHARICE! :D

there's so many talented singers here in the philippines,it's like the whole people in the philippines can sing,can hit high notes,who can cover a songs pretty well but there's something on Charice's vocals that they don't have,i can't explain it..it's like when you hear Charice singing,it's like you dont want to stop listening to her,her vocal texture s unique and dense that is very rare for an asian singer,yeah many can do high notes a dozen a dime but few are learn to use der voice w/ mastery

@spawnkiddo Glad that you did it in detail. I also thought that some missed the point Ms Salonga was trying to emphasize. I am an avid fan of Charice. I met her in Manila, Toronto & Las Vegas. I realized that even how talented Charice is, a complete package indeed, she won't go anywhere without DF & Oprah. It is esp true also in Manila without the support of the producers, the talented ones (maybe less talented then Charice) will not make it. It was Lea who said Cha is insanely talented.

I the past interviews, lea was astound by what charice's accomplished up to this early stage of her life. Lea thinks that PINOY here in the Philippines should understand what is the REAL meaning of the word TALENT and SKILLS. That's my point-of-view for what she said.:)

Like what I said in my earlier post, it was the interviewers (DJ Mo in particular IMHO) who said something with the inadvertent (I hope), ultimate effect that Charice is like a dime a dozen in the Phil. what's stopping you & all the ms saigon alumni from espousing certain proteges and teaching them singing techniques that you have learned and helping them to find their strengths? you don't have to spend any money to do this and it will not take a lot of effort especially if it's done as a group effort. we already have an example of how efren penaflorida was able to do it with the little he had.

ms lea i want to think that this is not just lip service coming from you & that you actually feel passionate about helping upcoming talents. not all of us have the same superpowers you have but perhaps you are caught up in your own daily life that you have not had a chance to think about how you can help. these talents do not come fully developed, they have to be nurtured and directed by good teachers into being the best they can be.

I have lot's of respect for Ms. Leah Salonga but her comment about many other talents in the Philippoines as good as Chaice is simply not true. The interviewer even says that there are 10 singers in the Phils. as good as Charice- Who? name one and show proof. Musicians and respected artists of all genres in the US and the world recognize Charice as an extraordinary talent and it takes another Filipino to make it ordinary- now that's sad.

There might be several in the Philippines that are as talented vocally but nothing can match the confluence of fortuitous events, serendipity if you will, that has raised Charice into the internet and cultural phenomena that she is. Charice is a child of destiny. Her story, her spirit, her drive and her personality is what made her successful. Hard to believe but her rich voice, as magnificent as it is, is only secondary. Fly high in 2011 Charice.

I believe Lea was trying to stress a point, initially, - the sorry state of the Phil.'s music industry and how they do business. But I think they, specifically the interviewers (we have to remember they drive/own the show), went overboard and lost ground with their original thesis when they didn't move beyond or didn't backed-up that non-factual claim. True, there are a lot of good Phil. singers but not as good as Charice. To say w/o proof diminishes Charice as well as the players in this video.

Charice has a good intentions, she even showed to well known producer and 15 times Grammy winners Mr. DF all the clips of PI very good and talented singers in the PI, but Lea never did so.Of course, it is Mr. DF to decide. DF and Ophra are also not young producers and investors to decide if Charice or other artist has incredible talent or not. Lea's prime is numbered.

Mrs. Lea Salonga is missing the point here, i respect her opinion but this still a business, some businessmen really go to the real talent, spends their million of money because they do believe in real talent, and that is Charice. In Lea's time there's a lot of theatrical actors who played Kim, its true. But don't compare Charice w/ you, Charice is only one. She has #1 Album in Japan, #1 dance remix single in B. Board. and Top 10 album in B.Board in US. All of these you don't have.

sure there are a lot of talented singer here in the Philippines, but no one can match Charice's charisma and incredible unique voice. She's the only artist here in the Philippines that really caught my attention. I have appreciated lots of singers but none of them has this addicting effect on me until Charice came. She's simply amazing and really addicting.

I have to agree with Lea Salonga though I am a super big Chaster. Let's admit that there are many very good singers in the Philippines. Even Charice has admitted this on an interview. She even asked David to watch Youtube with her to listen to other good singers in the Philippines telling him that she is not the only one. However, I have to say that Charice, at this moment, is the most talented of them all. She has proven herself so much that other singers would have to try so hard to reach her.

The Philippines has many good singers with real talent. But I do not think/hear any artists with Charice's caliber. She has this charisma when singing, especially on live performances.
Goosebumps & tears never fail to show up when Charice does ballads, powerful big songs.
Her voice has this certain timbre that makes you feel the message of the song.
These is IMHO. Don't flame/hate me for it.
But if haters insist, I can gladly oblige a meet up...& be ready with your balls. Just saying...

The networks & music industry needs to have a criteria called "star quality" for artists to be marketable, because of shallow & uneducated Filipinos, to be profitable.

I grew up in the Phls and was very active in the music world but never heard or know of anybody else who has a singing talent like Charice. Yeah there are a lot of female singers there now but mostly average talentwise. Charice is the only Pinay singer that can give me goosebumps and that's a hard feat to do. I guarantee that.

So it's good to hear that lawmakers work for an allowance and awards to World Champions especially in boxing but how about in performing arts, how about our famous artists that raise our flag abroad.
