When I saw him, he told this story before playing Fresh as a Sweet Sunday Morning. It actually does have something to do with the lyrics:

If I were a small bird so tiny

I'd hide in her hair just to be near her

To hear her sweet voice

Mystery solved! I do not remember if he played that song next, but if he did, he did not explain the connection. I'm thinking Bert remembered the story but blanked on which song it was about... which makes it even funnier, I think.
