Now, what exactly would you do if you were far away from home, had been for months, had 2 small children in desperate need of some normalicy, and the police suddenly decide to accuse you of killing your own child (which means they obviously aren't looking for your child anymore)? Wouldn't you want to go home? I know I would.
Who am I to judge how anyone would react in a missing child situation? Calling the media isn't exactly a dumb thing to do....it gets her face out there quickly so that people know what the child looks like. The only place I have even heard the "called the media before the police thing" was in the media and tabloids.....and I take anything the media says with a big grain of salt as the media tends to thrive on the spin factor.
The thing is that none of these things prove guilt. Was it dumb to leave children alone? Yes, but that just means they are guilty of dumb parenting (sounds like many guests at that resort are guilty of the same thing as they have a baby listening service in place, which means they check outside the door to hear for crying children).
But is this truly fact? Or something reported by the media? I have yet to hear a credible source..ie. the police or the McCanns state that they called the media first and the police second.

I used to be one of those people that was sooo sure that Patsy Ramsey killed little JonBenet...afterall, the cops were soo sure. It turns out I was likely wrong, and a mom went to her grave with the entire world thinking she killed her little girl.

I'm from Portugal the country where Maddie dissapeared...of course here without proofs people are innocent, but with many things against them is very difficult to believe that they are innocent...was so good if I was wrong and little Maddie was alive...we have to wait and see where all this go to finish..
The thing is, this little girl is still missing. Nobody here can claim to know for sure who is responsible for that. We can speculate all we want, but until she is found, we have to think of her as a child who has been abducted. What if...just what if...she is still alive out there, and everyone has just given her up for dead because they have decided to point the finger at her parents? 3Why Mccanns have a key of the church if they went to Portugal to vacations and they just met the priest in that days?

5 If police believes that Maddie are dead and the church can be the local where she was buried why they don't search on there?
6 when Madeleine disappeared she said that didn't came back to her country without her daugther so why when they was considered "arguidos" they want came back quickly to their country?
I am also a mother and I personally am not convinced at all that they had anything to do with her disappearance. I guess that means that your maternal instincts are better than mine??? The point is, none of us can possibly come on here and claim to know the truth....we don't. To insist that her parents are guilty without having any solid proof (other than your fantastic maternal instincts) is doing a huge disservice to Maddie if she is in fact still alive out there somewhere.

Wow, watching this clip, I've never been more aware of the difference between American media and the media in Britain (and Ireland). This clip is really uncomfortable to watch if you're familiar with how the disappearance of Madeline McCann was treated in the UK: harrowing, bleak, devastating. This clip treats it so sensationally, is edited so calculatedly to manipulate the emotions of those who see it so that they might tune in... Very distressing to contemplate whoever was behind it.
I do agree from the bottom of my heart with those of you who say that what's really important is to find Maddie, and despite being cruel to think that the parents may be involved, everyone also know that its a possibility that investigators need to keep in mind. The only thing that is asked of them as parents, is simply to co-opporate, and not act like unfortunatly they did. As a parent, I feel for them. But as a mother, I cannot help but wonder how they could leave their children in a room, in a different country. I wouldn't leave my children with most of the people I know let alone do what they did. I hope Maddie and all the other missing children are found.

I live in Portugal and have followed this case quite closely. It's not a secret that there is quite a lot of incompetent attitude in Portugal and there is also a tendency to cover up for that incompetence. Mc Canns were clearly framed , because the police had to somehow justify their own failure to act quickly and effeciently.
Yes, murderzOr, responding with abuse in Portuguese is quite tipical, but doesn't automatically make McCanns guilty. Innocent until proven guilty - that's the only arguement which is relevant.
The only thing is relevant in this all story is Maddie... Her parents were neglected, and after all this time they never assume being guilty for leaving that child alone. If they did perhaps i would find those tears more convincing... Poor Maddie...

The poor Madeleine is probably dead after these 2 years because no one can take her along without her being recognized. We also have a Police detective who wrote a book about the case. They weren´t considered not guilty! The case was just closed. The information Oprah doesn´t tell us is that Jerry Mccann was a future member of the British government and there were pressures to end the case. But it seems it might be reopened. Well, there is a little Joana (Portuguese girl) story. She has also disappeared, her body never found, and her mum was beaten by the police to confess her murder. At least, that's what she said from jail,where she currently is, after learning about the McCanns . I hope Mc Canns story will help reexamining her case as well.

i just think that assuming she was snatched as seems most plausible(despite what some think), the parents definitely decreased her chances of survival by going so extremely public.

My best hope would be that she either died peacefully, or was taken with loving intent ie by a father whose wife couldn't have children(although this is flawed cause surely these types would adopt). i am a mother of four childern,and would never have left my children in their "own" beds while i go out to party,let alone a foreign country,i think these people are liars and this is all going to come to ahead with all the interviews they are doing,they cant even get their own story straight,does this mean the friends are involed to,it seems to me kate knows when to put on the waterworks,she doesnt "act" like a mother whos child has disappered,why ring the media first and report her missing

I couldnt have left my three children alone when they were that age, but i can understand why they thought it was safe. They had been there before and the resort had a good reputation for saftey, lots of people did it, and they could see the appartment from where they were eating. Id have been more worried about a fire than an abduction if it was me. i just hope they find out what happened to her, even if its bad news, it must be torture not knowing.

The report was written by the Portuguese Police Dept who's since been hammered for botching up the job. The police was called immediately after a quick search by the parents and friends. The Police Dept is now facing a lawsuit from a Portuguese woman who suffered a similar fate. Her child was abducted and the woman was subjected to abusive interrogaiton.

One of the McCanns friends at the resort, Jane Tanner claimed to have seen a man walking away from the apartment with a child & was interviewed by BBC.
She makes a slip up and states "I was carrying" rather he "He was carrying" when describing the supposed abductor.

I don't think the McCanns murdered their child but possibly she died as a result of an adverse reaction to legal sedatives.

Gerry is offering comfort to Kate at certain parts in the interview, but never did in the early interviews after the abduction, just something i noticed. i still think they know what happened

Who am I to judge how anyone would react in a missing child situation? Calling the media isn't exactly a dumb thing to do....it gets her face out there quickly so that people know what the child looks like. The only place I have even heard the "called the media before the police thing" was in the media and tabloids.....and I take anything the media says with a big grain of salt as the media tends to thrive on the spin factor.

The thing is that none of these things prove guilt. Was it dumb to leave children alone? Yes, but that just means they are guilty of dumb parenting (sounds like many guests at that resort are guilty of the same thing as they have a baby listening service in place, which means they check outside the door to hear for crying children).

If Gordon Brown had got personnaly involved in every child dissappearance then it would be admirable and consistent, however unrealistic.
But he did get involved and the facts that, a goverment spin doctor was placed at the Mcanns disposal and they have not been investigated for child neglect is the root of some suspicions

We can speculate all we want, but until she is found, we have to think of her as a child who has been abducted. This clip is really uncomfortable to watch if you're familiar with how the disappearance of Madeline McCann was treated in the UK: harrowing, bleak, devastating. I do agree from the bottom of my heart with those of you who say that what's really important is to find Maddie, and despite being cruel to think that the parents may be involved, everyone also know that its a possibility that investigators need to keep in mind. The only thing that is asked of them as parents, is simply to co-opporate, and not act like unfortunatly they did. It's not a secret that there is quite a lot of incompetent attitude in Portugal and there is also a tendency to cover up for that incompetence. Every year in every country there are new cases of missing kids. But this case got huge. I don´t know why. The poor Madeleine is probably dead after these 2 years because no one can take her along without her being recognized. We also have a Police detective who wrote a book about the case. They weren´t considered not guilty! The case was just closed. The information Oprah doesn´t tell us is that Jerry Mccann was a future member of the British government and there were pressures to end the case. But it seems it might be reopened. I don´t think anyone believes they killed her on purpose but they did leave their children alone and went out for drinking... (part 2)

Well, there is a little Joana (Portuguese girl) story. She has also disappeared, her body never found, and her mum was beaten by the police to confess her murder. At least, that's what she said from jail,where she currently is, after learning about the McCanns . I hope Mc Canns story will help reexamining her case as well.

actually a lot of people in the UK think they killed her accidently, and this number is increasing judging by the amount of comments i have read dismissing the kidnapping theory. on the surface it looks like a mystery/complex case but i am sure its the most obvious thing that happened, the parents accidently killed her, not intentionally, but the lies are going on,people are donating to the fund, and they know what happened. It´s a shame how some people still believe in them. Im not saying they killed Maddie, but there are lots of contraditions in this story that need to be unraveled. Why didn´t they go to Oprah show when Maddie dissapeard? Why now? Is that because if its prooved that she´s dead, they cant touch the money?! Because of them, 21 staff members of Luz Bay Club were fired! And no one is giving them money to support their family members. Shame on McCanns!!! Hope I never see them around here anymore!!

also what i think is weird is if i was a parent in that situation I dont think id want a huge worldwide publicity campaign to get underway. this is likely to disturb any snatchers into getting rid of the extremely 'hot property' asap i would imagine. maybe their judgment was clouded with emotion and they regret it now, but i think low key detective work is better, although i understand they used the funds from the find maddie campaign to pay private investigators

My best hope would be that she either died peacefully, or was taken with loving intent ie by a father whose wife couldn't have children(although this is flawed cause surely these types would adopt). Maddie Maddie where are you, maybe one day you'll return safe and well and everything will make sense. Maybe your parents accidentally killed you, couldn't bring themselves to admit it or deal with it, and embarked on this elaborate Pope meeting journey to somehow spread hope/love and ease their pain

did their strong religious beliefs have a bearing on their handling of the situation? It sure is a great mystery. worst case scenario, she got snatched by some child sex/porn ring. But what are the stats on this? I assume many kids in that situation are abused by their own family, or are trafficked from extremely poor countries, not just randomly snatched(although i am aware of child snatchings). something for sure doesnt add up. either the parents know something, or evil was lurking that day.
