@pocasha Look up "Fagin" on wikipedia - it's fascinating. In the original book, he was called "the Jew" hundreds of times, and Jews at the time complained. Dickens didn't care at first, but later in life he had business dealings with a Jewish guy he liked a lot, and then felt bad about it. So for later printings of the book, he removed a lot of the "Jew" references (even though Fagin was still Jewish). In the movie, Fagin is more of a lovable rogue -- not EVIL like Bill Sikes.

Not that it even makes it clear he's Jewish in this film, and if it's in the book I don't think it matters much now when it was written so long ago when you wouldn't really expect prejudice like that to not be in books.
