In the UK, by and large we use nuclear, despite our large coal reserves. Largely because if the burning of coal can ever be made clean, the mining of it certainly never can.

@ Unclesamslair Yes nuclear energy like everything else on this planet is not infinite, however it the best option. The amount of energy one plant creates is enormous. Granted yes its expensive, put it pays itself back within 10 years. And as long as the nuclear waste is disposed of properly (which currently it is) the pros of nuclear power very much outweigh the cons. And btw what do you think the US should use since you condemn nuclear power?

Wind turbines and solar panels can't replace coal they don't produce power consistently enough. The fact is right now power needs to be generated by some type of fuel and coal makes the most sense it is cheap we have allot of it and we can burn it just as clean as any other fossil fuel. This doesn't mean we can't supplement that power with wind solar or hydro power it just means it can't be replaced yet.

This video didn't mention the devastation of mountain top removal. "Clean Coal" is just another lying slogan! Coal will always be dirty and destructive. It needs to be phased out rapidly and replaced with clean, sustainable energy. If the Oil and Coal companies were smart they'd invest their massive earnings into sustainable methods. But instead they spend more money on "green washing" PR than on green technology.

Having seen some of the results from mountaintop removal in West Virginia, I can say that there will NEVER be clean coal. No matter what they do once it's out of the ground, they still have to get it out.
