  • Yanks love the sound of their own voice!

  • not only is roasting your own economically smarter, but tastes a ton better as well. Most beans you buy at stores dont have their roast dates printed on them, which means they are most likely stale.

  • i bought a popcorn maker from superstore and I roast a sumatra (dark) in aprox 4 minutes! why does yours take 8?

also I buy my beans from sweet maria's but looking for a more fair trade/ organic company (online) any suggestions?

I have been roasting for just about a month now

  • very cool !!!

  • Hey Dude,

I bought a popper yesterday at WallGreens for $9.99 and went to my local coffee house (BeanWerks) here in Asheville, NC and bought some beans. Roasted them last night- Everything went just like you said. I'm waiting a few days before I try it cause another video said the coffee is better after 3 days. Thanks for all the great info and the video.

  • Good work.

Make sure to let the beans breathe for 3-days. A sealed lid will make them much more acidic due to the CO2 being reabsorbed.

  • Very good information and quite resourceful.

    Cheers!

  • Good vid Dude!I just threw one of those away,1000 watts for 8 minutes would dump my bank(small system)I'm going to use a wok, have you heard anything about this methid?

  • You can buy a new one at walgreens for 9 dollars.

  • I was being ripped off! I paid about $8cdn a pound!! That's way I quit roasting my own.

  • Thanks for the tutorial, very helpful.

  • So awesome, another way to use my popcorn maker! Yummy coffee!

  • the container I had the unroasted coffee in is a 3 cup capacity mason jar. That was not a very approximate dispensing, but when I carefully measure the goal is 2/3's cup.

  • I think you meant 1/3 or even 1/6, because 2/3 = 66% and you definitely used about 15% - 30%. Not to be picky or anything. 8)

  • If you want something super local for your caffeine fix, you could grow the Yaupon holly from the SE United States, Ilex vomitoria, that was used by the native Americans. It is one of the 3 hollies that contain caffeine with Mate and Guayusa.

Don't let the name "vomitoria" scare you. It doesn't make you vomit unless you boil for hours, and it's very tasty, like mate. It's a ornamental shrub all over the South, and should grow well in the summers in NM.
