  • Hey, that's the same costume Diana Damrau wears in one of her performances of the Queen Of The Night!

  • applause!!!!!!!!!!!stupenda! she's my idol, I hope I'll be able to sing like her when I grow up! Many singers don't have such a nice timing in this aria on purpose, because they want to show the queen is upset and angry. I love you Edita <3

  • I always think of Edita as the best voice ever to come to earth. The best of all divas. I was lucky to see her on stage many times. however... on this video she is ahead of the orchestra. still good but not great. :)

  • That is an awfully high note she sings.

  • two great divas

  • Falscher Text...

"Und ihm den Sonnengeist der Allmacht entreißen!" - "Aber Mutter." - "Kein Worte!" (so heißt das..)

  • Did anyone notice that her singing was not in time with the orchestra.Don't read me wrong she is capable of the part but she probable needed to do some more breathing techniques, i think that's where she faltered but that is just my opinion.

  • una voz exquisita

  • 1st class: Moser, Deutekom (dramatic, accurate, intensive)

2nd class: Pop, Hallstein (not so dramatic, but still accurate, cool)

3rd class: Damrau (not really dramatic, not perfect, but still under control)

4th class: Gruberova (out of control)

5th class: F. F. Jenkins (a bit worse than Edita)

  • @tomasburi

    Who are you?

    6th class?

    Just askin'...

  • @karadiberlino I'm just an owner of two ears, which suffer from hearing Edita's queen. She's good in other (non-Mozart) arias, but this is just awful, sorry.

  • @tomasburi

    Fair enough.

  • @tomasburi LOL - glad to see you rated Gruberova above FF Jenkins.

  • lolz this is like the 27th time ive watched this and i just noticed for the first time that around 2:40 her necklace fell off and she grabbed it.

  • I got goosebumps of all the Queens of Night with exception of this one. Sorry ..

  • @glmiri It's not about the acting, it's about the music and the story. The acting has nothing to do with Opera.

  • @ARRYCATMASTAHFUNK You realize the story is told through the acting, right?

  • @Triairius No, it's not. You obviously know nothing about Opera. The story is told through the music, the lyrics, the acting has nothing to do with it. The acting in Opera is an emphasis of the music and story. This isn't a musical.

  • @ARRYCATMASTAHFUNK

    Thank you.

  • @ARRYCATMASTAHFUNK hmmm.... well, that´s an age-old discussion is suppose. But if it´s only about the music, why write spoken text in between? and if it´s about the story, i have to make that story real by acting it well. But I didn´t want to demean such a wonderful singer, of course. I fully respect her abilities, I could obviously never do what she does.

  • 2:40 she doesn't just shatter glass. She'll undress you too.

  • @Lightstrikers lol i did not notice before!

  • @Lightstrikers but still she satsy professionnal that's good :-) and thats adds a more dramatic thing to the aria

  • @iyamt 2:40 the first time I saw it, the vid is so small and blurry I didn't notice the neckless, I though she grab herself. Seriously.

  • @Lightstrikers Yes completly! And it adds a more dramatic thing to the aria!Love it!

  • Great singing. Some dodgy ensemble at the beginning but she recovers (ONE and TWO and THREE and FOUR and). Not much of a production. Mostly she just stands there and belts it out in front of a painted backdrop. And they have made her a literal queen, with prom dress and plastic tiara, not a fantasy queen. I always thought this house was better than that.

  • 2:40 SUCH.A.FAIL.

  • She is much better in Kostanze...her voice feels like too weak for this role

  • Gruberova and Serra do the smoothest coloratura work without having to punch each note.

  • Great singer .....wrong aria!!!

    Also terrible timing!!!

Do yourself a favour and listen to Edda Moser.........great singer right aria!!

  • @franzgrabe1

better you could't say ... timing is horrible - eg 1.28 also many tones are simply incorrect and

    coloratures are yuite thin ...

I am negatively surprised cause normally I like her and her voice very well!

You mentioned Edda Moser - that would be also my suggestion ...

and Roberta Peters and Wilma Lipp (with their coloratures hard and cold as ice at the point ....)

  • @franzgrabe1 Thanks, Edda Moser is great

  • Edita simply...SHE IS the Queen of the Night ;) at least for me! I only like this aria with her :D

  • she hardly seems to be able to sing this, too bad

  • @MnemosyneNL Are you mad??? She is one of the finest singers of all times!!!

  • yech ---- damrau has this part rolled up

  • a big trouble with the times, but great singer!

  • Her phonetics are EXCELENT! Is very clear and understandable! And an excelente interpretation.

  • No denying she's a good soprano --- but i could not feel the supposed vengeance on her voice for this aria...peace...

  • I was reading that this is one of the only aria's that call for a G6 to be hit by a female lead.

  • @zaljereck not actually, this is not a lead role and it asks for 5 F6's. Mozart wrote 2 G6's in the Concert aria: "Popoli di Tessaglia", for his sister-in law Aloysia Lange, but it is not an opera. Also, Antonio Salieri wrote a G6 in L'Europa riconosciuta for the lead role, but it is virtually out of the repertoire and far less brilliant that Mozart's compositions ;-)

  • @leoperarm

Popoli di Tessaglia is written for an showpiece Aria in Glucks Alceste

  • @OLIVCHEN77 no, it's a concert aria by Mozart using only the TEXT from Gluck's Alceste, but never to be inserted in it ;-)

  • nehm wir grade in der schule durch. ;D

  • Edda Moser's version is waaaaaaaay better, but this one is nice too.

  • @42believers

yes, and my ass is waaaaaaaaay better than yours. Go to the doctor with your ears.

  • @bubibuLLo whoa, no need to be nasty. Is nobody in this world allowed to express up their opinion w/o getting slammed?

  • Is that Lucia Popp as Pamina? There's not a lot of red-head sopranos.

  • i think she reacted very professionally

  • 1e 'Netrebko' kann das nicht! - Wo ist die überhaupt?!

  • she is great

  • She kinda lost the beat at some parts, but then she got it back again. Also, her acting of the queen was not very evil or controling like the queen is, at some parts she looked like a good person and then she would get back again at being evil. But even so her performance of this song was still very good.

  • Not Gruberova's best moment definitely. Someone pointed out rightly that she was off the beat at certain points. But to say it is horrible is pretty much off the shot. Either it is a sour rival singer, or if it's someone without half her talent, better off to shut your gap up!

  • Wonderful, very nice one! She was unlucky for the fall of necklace

  • WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE DEVIL WOMAN? I MEAN THE ONE WHO SINGS THE ARIA

  • @MrDarknesslover I think the actress is called Edita Gruberova. The character is the Queen of the Night.

  • @Littlemissmazda Excellent

  • WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE DEVIL WOMAN?

  • waw!!!! Grandiose!!!!!

  • Is that Lucia Popp playing Pamina?

  • Nice try, but nowhere near as good as Cristina Deutekom

  • is that her with Lucia Popp?

  • she si nice, but when she makes the high notes she puts her head down, and the sound is not so good! And yes, the crow is too much! You actually can see how much it costs to sing to her! not so good!

  • she si nice, but when she makes the high notes she puts her head down, and the sound is not so good! And yes, the crow is too much!

  • her outfit is one of the best i've seen, but the crown is a bit much for me. Yes, the character is the Queen of the Night, but she's not (to my knowledge) actually queen of anything. I'd like it if she had a headdress like Diana Damrau does, but not a full blown crown.

  • nah dont like it... she obviously can sing :D it just seems a little withdrawn

  • I don't like it.

  • I think it would've been more dramatic if she would've let the necklace fall to the floor. Or even ripped it off when she first felt it come loose.

  • wow, she just doesn't have the presence. If you want to hear a true Queen. Listen to Dame Joan Sutherland and Edda Moser. Edda gives you the drama while Joan gives you the warmth.

  • @Royalorgans even light voices can do it! There's the powerful version of sills!

  • HORRIBLE. If don't know how tu sustain the medium notes, don't sing this aria, PLEASE

  • 2:40 - Nice catch!

  • @thomasfan001 I had to look twice xD I

  • her tiempo is excessively flawed, therefore she falls a quarter measure behind persistently.

  • To holt je Grůbřice rozgrůbřicovatělá. Speciální živočišný druh, no.

  • Her acting leaves something to be desired, but the singing is pretty darn good.

  • she better catch that necklace! brilliant in every way.

    man war ich böse!! :D:D

  • She has the voice but she's singing too fast and then too slow. Poor of the conductor.

  • haa. her necklace fell off. fail.

  • @abster3636 What a smart comment! You must be a genius - how dit you find out - all by yourself or with mummys help?

  • not bad

  • Kann die 'Netrebko' das auch ???????????????

  • her movent is bad, but her singin is wow.

  • Muy impresionante!!!!! una exelente interpretación.

  • @Sayasupersayan sì. es la verdad

  • nice triplets

  • That dress definitely won't be helping her voice XD

  • I'm into opera on and off, and was wondering, did Gruberova come to New York much? Does she still sing, and if so, does she come to New York? Thanks.

  • Great voice but the way she's singing this aria is so wrong.

  • Very good

  • If I am listening to Diana´s Version I hear a lot of Edita...both great singers

  • Diana Damrau is the best Queen of the night ever

  • Thank you very much!!!!

It is a real good song!!!!

  • @boyjason1221 call this "song" is very vulgar, that's an aria

(almeno in quest'aria)

Critiche stupide mosse dall'invidia

  • she's not that good..hear the rythm..at 1:26 ..and I think she is scared of the heights..check out Edda Moser

  • EDITA GRUBEROVA - Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen

  • E va be...

  • wow. she's one of the best singing the Queen of the night.

  • Is Lucia Popp who's playing Pamina?

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @ines176

    Yes.

  • Thank you.

  • yes, that's Lucia Popp as Pamina

  • I prefer Diana Damrau too!!!!

  • Good but Diana Damrau absolutely rules this aria!

  • The "German" colaratura sound is a thing they have in common. Gruberova has been singing for over thirty years I saw her in Vienna in the mid 1980's. She gives variable performances either amazing or a little disappointing. She is marvellous in Moxart and is on the Idomeneo recording with Pavarotti she sings Electra the very unhinged Greek princess!!

  • i don't think she sounds anything like Damrau. Personally, i like Damrau a lot better. But i suppose Gruberova has some good things goin' for her here.

  • @heartofsorrow I like Damrau too, but she ought take a cue from a much more experienced and versatile singer like Gruberova.

  • is it just me or does edita sound, talk and sing just like Diana damrau? i mean, omg the similarities are shocking

  • good recovery on the collar

  • She slurs the notes. How does one land a role like this without being able to sing each note clearly?

  • Dioses!!

    Se le cayó el collar!!

  • great interpretation by Gruberova, but listen to Deutekom - she's still the benchmark! sings like she's firing it out of a cannon. Scary but brilliant!!

  • @DazFromOz Just listened to Deutekom, different recordings/ Real nasty power there and convincing because of it. I LOVED it. Wouldn't have found her without your comment, tnx.

  • She is the singer I have been searching for. She is the real singer!

  • she is not out of tune, but there are certainly better singers for this aria, as much as I like her.

  • Sumi Jo's version is my favourite

  • @lowerlowerhk ...really?

Gott sei Dank!

  • scarpia1965 .... ummm ok are you an opera singer because I am and .... that was gross.... Diana is 100000000000000 times better than Elena

  • Wow you certainly are a cocky "Opera Singer" I understand its normal for singers to be absolutely full fo themselves, so why don't you post a video of you singing "Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen", if you can even sing an F6.

  • Edita is the best one for this song... well done

  • And Rita Streich....

  • Not only a great voice and a great performance, but also... LOOK WAS SHE EVEN DOES AT 2:39!!! This is a professional... :o)

  • Poor acting? You try better then!

  • thats not too hard. im sorry but serious

  • poor acting.

    diana damrau is way better

  • Gruberova was barely audible on those high Fs...thin, pinched...not the quality I would have expected. Damrau has it all OVER this performance.

  • La viste en vivo?

  • i agree with pj1974. It was a trainwreck! Diana is the best dramatic coloratura by far.

  • @marzanjp1 Diana is not dramatic at all. Listen to Elena Mosuc and you will get a tast of a real "Queen"....

Sonst sehr gut gesungen!!

  • by her it sounds so easy! O.ô

  • Very good! :D

Diana Damrau sings it nicely, but I think she's more "performatic". Edita Gruberova has more seccurity in her singing or at least, that's what I felt when I saw this video.

  • Oh dear, 1.27 is a trainwreck. As much as I respect Gruberova, she struggles with aspects of this piece for some reason. For example, her lack of articulation and accuracy on the A,G,A,Bb section of the coloratura passage.

  • Oh, my, a trainwreck? How does she have the courage to continue . . . oh, wait! Because it was nothing like a trainwreck. It was fantastic. Please post a video of you performing this aria.

  • She was performing at the Bavarian State Opera, she had no choice but to go on. Despite being at least a 1/4 note early on the coloratura passage. Sorry, but at this this level that kind of error is a "trainwreck". Suggest you have another listen...

  • You are absolutely right.

  • ^^ what he said, I heard it and cringed, I wouldn't have expected such a strenuous moment from her.

  • Best high F's ever

  • The Best Ever!!!

  • delicios inégal

  • i would preffer bit more lucia popp :)

  • Slightly weak on the top notes but still excellent. No match for Studer or even Rita Streich, but well sung.

  • true

  • grande!

  • I love 2:39

  • Edita is a great voice !!!

  • mmm... she gets ahead of the orchestra in one of the top C's staccati... poor bassoon player, he tries to catch her... not good

  • I prefer Edita Gruberova.

I always liked this revenge aria hehe...

  • EDITA: THE TRUE QUEEN!!!!

  • My favorites are Natalie Dessay, Diana Damrau and Edda Mosser

  • Diana Damrau roooooocks! xD

  • The best: Edda Mosser

    The second best: Diana Damrau

    That's it.

Well, I must say Sumi Jo sucks as Queen of the Night. She sings Verdi pretty well, though.

  • Erika Miklosa....may be better than those two Divas.

  • You forgot the best, Florence Foster Jenkins

  • agreed... (haha)
