where do u get the outline from? did u just mess around with which ever colors u thought were right? ive never done/seen this before. very good stuff man.

@StfuSiriusly The outline is just final lines done over a sketch I drew before the video. For colors, I had a few in mind from the original design and other inspirations, then just rendered them according to what I knew about light (which wasn't very much at the time, haha).

@ANTHMX Pretty much all of my art is done with a plain ol' hard round brush with opacity set to pen pressure. There are a few custom brushes I use, some of which are in my dA gallery (same name as my youtube), so you can fiddle around with those if you like. Overall though I'd suggest spending some time to make your own brushes so you can get something that's uniquely you and fits your specific way of working. :)

Your forms and values need more focus. Some highlights and attempted detail looks just sloppy. Luke mancini is way better, seems like your just trying to steal his spotlight by trying to mimic him, yet still falling quite short. Nice try but try to be original.

Yes, Luke's is far better than mine. He is also an older, more experienced artist than I am (not to mention this was created nearly 2 years ago).

I am not trying to steal his spotlight by mimicking him, I could care less about popularity. I was inspired by him and was attempting to learn his technique at the time; I never said it was an original idea, nor did I intend it to be. I have done plenty of original work, which can be easily found in my dA gallery. Don't assume so much.

@Hayse1q1 Nope. Just about everything is set to normal, except for the cool blue shadows and the soft goldish highlights added near the end for some extra pop.

The lines are on their own layer that is transparent except for the lines themselves, and the color was just painted on a layer between them and the white layer.

Pretty much what I did was I sketched out the drone (which is the light grayish outline you see me tracing on top of), then just made another layer on top of that and did the final black lines.

So, yes, I traced; but I traced my own sketch, so it counts. XD

I personally prefer photoshop to painter. I just can't seem to figure out how to work with painter; though I know some artists who are amazing at it, so it's certainly possible.

And I'm pretty much self-taught; the internet has a lot of great resources for learning to draw, as do a lot of books, but the main thing is simply practice. :3

The drone is from a game called Starcraft; really excellent game, I'd highly recommend it if you like RTSs.

And I do sell paintings; nearly always open for commissions. :)
