SINGAPORE - A 15-km (10 mile) stretch of crisp white beach is one of the key battlegrounds in Singapore's campaign to defend its hard-won territory against rising sea levels linked to climate change.
Stone breakwaters are being enlarged on the low-lying island state's man-made east coast and their heights raised. Barges carrying imported sand top up the beach, which is regularly breached by high tides.

No amount of prevented measures by the government can hold back the wrath and fury of nature and if this water level comes up like this, it's an act of nature and so be it!
No point shifting blame, we just act on the situation.
the june'10 and july'10 orchard flood is poor planning indeed. the gov has stated clearly that Orchard is 3-4 metres above sea level. Some other places flooded because they are at low-lying areas. How to do something for this Earth? Have less babies and thus less consumption of the natural resources. I believe you have the other answers "How to save our planet?"
I saw this over a year ago and could not believe my eyes.
Maybe the flooding that is happening now is not so much because of poor planning by PUB than because the overall water levels are rising in ways we are not monitoring.
I think we need to look at coastal defenses now rather than later
@arnoldkhoo maybe its not about poor planning by PUB. maybe all of us need to wake up and realise , its the global warming. do something to save the earth.
@saberi81 The recent floods have nothing to do with tides - all three eps occurred during low or receding tide. And MB should have protected us from tides anyway. So, it's inadequate planning by PUB plain and simple.
What's in the video happens one or two days each year, around Chinese New Year during which I believe the moon is closest to the earth (hence exerting its gravity on our seas). And every few years - I don't know the cycle - these tides are even higher than the usual high.
Action now being taken
