  • This is Charlie's lead all the way. Just ask him.

  • anyone who remembers "Diner"...we had the the drifters at our baltimore high school frat xmas party. 1967....sigma phi is lord! the most underrated music in classic rock!!!!!!!

  • I believe this is Charlie Thomas singing lead on this great tune.

  • @LuccaBB1

I read somewhere that Rudy Lewis sings the intro to this and Charlie Thomas sings the rest of it.

  • This incredible song is timeless!

  • I have just had my fix of this song.It is addictive l have to listen to it at least 6 times and sometimes more.It makes you want to dance.BRILLIANT.

  • nice one and in rare stereo !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Those were the days with these great songs. I am happy I was a teen then!

    Thank you for posting!

  • The Drifters always performed the most beautiful songs for teenagers. This reminds of sooooo back in the day. How sweet. Thanks.

  • Songs I grew up with, they are great and so was growing up in 1962.

I saw the Drifters live at a bar in down town Philly back in '68 they sounded just like the recordings. Thanks for posting one of my fave Drifter's recordings.

  • @LMHS63 I heard that. And we don't have to reveal a thing! : D 1962 was a fabulous year to be a teenie bopper!

  • @boomerang905 i agree 62 is the year we married and still very much in love

  • @mrwarmth100 My dear departed sister married in 1962 in July. I was sitll a sophomore in high school. It was a beautiful time of discovering life and boys : ). She had a good life and marriage as I am sure yours is as well. There was something beautiful about that year. Peace!

  • @boomerang905 Your loving sister is looking down at you and smiling.Peace and love ,Desiree

  • WHAT AN ARRANGEMENT.WE JUST DO NOT GET MUSIC LIKE THIS ANYMORE.

  • @sunshine33rays You can say that again. Amazing!

  • What apity Ben E King is know for that Sap fest "stand by me"...he did SO much great stuff!

  • @monicalups Ben E King is just one of the many lead singers that the Drifters had over the years. He only recorded 10 songs with the Drifters. He didn't sing lead on this song, Charlie Thomas did. I'm old enough to have seen Charlie Thomas sing this song, Rudy Lewis sing On Broadway and Some Kind Of Wonderful, and Ben E King sing a few Drifters hits as well as his best solo hits

  • Oops...Klaus Ogermann.

  • What an arrangement! I believe it was done by Klaus Olgermann. A great one.

  • <3<3

  • ONE OF THE BEST DRIFTERS SONGS A1

  • who wrote this,Lieber/Stoller?

  • @MsJoanieK Nope, it's another superb classic from the great Carole King and Gerry Goffin.

  • @coyotesong: Bingo!!

  • I have this awesome song on a drifters cd , its a live version , the live version is slightly jazzed up BUT still amazing

    great post :)

  • Love this song ^_^

  • Does anyone have Up in the Streets of Harlem and Please Stay, two of the very best Drifters songs that I am suprised haven't been posted. I'd be so grateful

  • thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!

  • finaly found this song.now i can sing it to my grand daughter when she smiles at me.peace Desiree

  • awesome memories!!

  • None of their lead singers-- Clyde McPhatter, Ben E. King, Johnny Moore--could emote like the late, great Rudy Lewis.

  • @javernot what songs did he sing lead for?? When was he their front man?

  • @javernot o Ben E. King held his own EASILY. he's still King IMO

I count the tears, Dance with me, This magic moment, There goes my babe...anyone ? :)

  • @javernot btw the lead singer in this one is not Rudy Lewis, but Charlie Thomas ;)

  • @javernot

Isn't this Charlie Thomas on lead? Beautiful song, one of their best. So much emotion here!

  • a forgotten treasure.

  • there is * MAGIC* in this song..........

  • @mizjk: So true.......it lets you put the accelerator to the floor and keep it there, just as I did in 1973......leaving many in the rear-view morror.

  • love, love, love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @coyotesong i do too !:D

  • Never forgotten - always loved xx

  • @theglastonburygirl yep, one of the great songs from one of the great groups of the early 60s! BTW, there was a street named glastonbury in my motown neighborhood. Any connection???

  • Truly a forgotten oldie from The Drifters!

  • One of my all time favorites. What energy!
