They did it out of respect, something that OU doesn't like to show. Those uniforms are formed from the military ROTC uniforms since thats how the marching band got started in the 1880s so we like to keep our military tradition. People know our uniforms from around the world unlike ou uniforms that are only known to peopl in the state

Let's see the marching bands that I have seen that puts the overrated osu band to shame. In Ohio OHio, BG and Wooster are all far superior then what osu ever has had to offer. Nationally I have seen Purdue, Michigan and UConn all far superior. The best band of any kind period is Texas A&M. Noboby can match them. Certainly not a band who only is famous because of a great marketing campain.

I love them! One time our high school marching band was invited to one of their skull sessions. Our fight song was also buckeye. No one paid much attention to us until we started cranking it out, and they were so thrilled. I wonder how many of them knew it was also our song. Man, I miss those days :)

awsome. I have watched the band enter the stadium many times and still get goose bumps. nice tradition, i don't think the entrance has changed since i was a kid!
We were hardly playing to our full potential against Navy. We weren't even playing our first string for most of the game. OSU very, very nearly beat USC quite handily, so don't act as if OSU can be looked down on for their performance against USC. On another note, TBDBITL is our band's nickname for a reason, as a current member of the OSUMB, I can honestly say no other band can possibly compare to ours in fan support, in skill, or in tradition. Go Bucks!
I played snare drum in the OSUMB for 3 years starting in '79. I can't begin to tell you the adrenalin rush coming out of the tunnel when ~90000 fans start cheering. Even today, 30 years after my 1st time, I still get chills watching, listening and remembering.
I've been to a TAMU game, and it's impressive. Being a Buckeye, I would choose Ohio Stadium over anything. But TAMU is definitely a different experience. The band is great, the fans are great. The stadium is quite a bit smaller, but very loud when everyone cheers together. Some Aggies even invited me to a tailgate even though I was wearing my Buckeyes jersey. It's cool.
That said, I still think nothing beats Columbus in the fall. I get choked up just thinking about it. GO BUCKS!

It has been 58 years since I was a squad leader in the OSUMB, I get goosebumps everytime I hear the ramp. There is no other band in the world that will make you remember your participation every day the rest of your life. Go Bucks.
Wow--my dad graduated from OSU and has taken me to several games. I'm not a sports fan, BUT am a *huge* OSU fan, and GREATLY enjoy attending a games with my dad-- there's just something about being around 99,999 other fans that really makes for a memorable experience!

Totally agree! When TBDBITL makes its entrance there is NO COMPARISON. From the modern day Video introduction to get things started to the Drum Major running down the ramp.....YOU can feel it!
There isn't ANYONE who couldn't be IMPRESSED by seeing The Band enter from the ramp at Ohio Stadium. The drama, marching, precision and sound are UNMATCHED by any band out there. And when the Drum Major scampers through at the last second the place erupts. Penn State has a good entry but I still think THIS is The Best!

I don't think YouTube made the video out of sync, or that OSU was marching out of step, but the fact that sound travels slower than light. Reflection of light is how we see everything, and as you may know, light travels 670,616,629.4 miles per hour and sound travels at a mere 770 miles per hour. And considering other factors that will slow down the speed of the sound even more, such as atmosphere, you can be CERTAIN that the reflection of the light will reach the camera sooner than the sound.

well you're right about it being clean. But yeah it's clean because it's simple and slow-paced. Tradition is died. DCI killed it in '72, which, in turn, influenced it's sister, marching band, to up the anty and push the limit of what was acceptable and entertaining. I'll take an innovative, technically advanced marching band or corps, over a VFW, 1,000-manned marching block any day of the week!
I would agree, but you must also remember, just because ohio state does something simple like this dosn't mean they couldnt pull off something technical like a Corp show. I'm a huge DCI nerd, and I would have to say, the only thing I could truley see stopping Ohio state from pulling off a curviature style DCI show is the highstep, and the drum slings. The highstep stops double times, and half times, and the slings stop the drums from doing crabwalks and curves.

Ohio State fans are the best in the world, hands down, and i'll wont hear any arguments about it. No place i'd rather be on a chilly fall afternoon than central Ohio.
It doesn't matter how rich you are, what race you are, or who you vote for, Fall Saturdays in Columbus we are one, A Scarlet and Grey Army.

@mackshayster ..... the buffalo bills are an NFL team, and plus we STILL have more fans in our stadium each game than any NFL team.... we have the 3rd largest capacity in all of football reaching 105,000-107,000 in the stadiums each game... in 2008 they REDUCED the bills stands, they only seat 73,000 people, and 73,000 is much easier to fill than 105,000... get your facts straight... oh and btw college football is like 5 times bigger than NFL football, fans wise, and tradition wise.

It has been 58 years since I was a squad leader in the OSUMB, I get goosebumps everytime I hear the ramp. There is no other band in the world that will make you remember your participation every day the rest of your life. Go Bucks.

Wow--my dad graduated from OSU and has taken me to several games. I'm not a sports fan, BUT am a *huge* OSU fan, and GREATLY enjoy attending a games with my dad-- there's just something about being around 99,999 other fans that really makes for a memorable experience!

I graduated from OSU in 1950 but I still remember the thrill that came with the entrance of the band. You had to be there to feel the excitement and school spirit that the band created. WOW!

Totally agree! When TBDBITL makes its entrance there is NO COMPARISON. From the modern day Video introduction to get things started to the Drum Major running down the ramp.....YOU can feel it!

There isn't ANYONE who couldn't be IMPRESSED by seeing The Band enter from the ramp at Ohio Stadium. The drama, marching, precision and sound are UNMATCHED by any band out there. And when the Drum Major scampers through at the last second the place erupts. Penn State has a good entry but I still think THIS is The Best!

I don't think YouTube made the video out of sync, or that OSU was marching out of step, but the fact that sound travels slower than light. Reflection of light is how we see everything, and as you may know, light travels 670,616,629.4 miles per hour and sound travels at a mere 770 miles per hour. And considering other factors that will slow down the speed of the sound even more, such as atmosphere, you can be CERTAIN that the reflection of the light will reach the camera sooner than the sound.

Originally players played on a grass field, but in 1971, Ohio State installed Astroturf. In 1990, grass returned to Ohio Stadium until 2007.
That's grass in the video and the after renovations so definitely post 2001 and prior to 2007.

It's the ramp entrance. They do other flowery formations at halftime. And it's not from the 1930's... it's from 1928.
You obviously haven't seen this band on the street before.

It probably was writen in the 30's, who knows, thats the point though. If you havn't been able to notice, ohio state is HUGE on tradition, Thats why their drill is so clean. It dosn't change, and its clean as piss, everyone whos a fan loves it, why change it? It kicks ass
And you must be a fan of another college or something, you do realise ohio state spends a week straight doing nothing but 8 to 5 marching? 8 steps, same size for every 5 yards, obviously you didn't.

well you're right about it being clean. But yeah it's clean because it's simple and slow-paced. Tradition is died. DCI killed it in '72, which, in turn, influenced it's sister, marching band, to up the anty and push the limit of what was acceptable and entertaining. I'll take an innovative, technically advanced marching band or corps, over a VFW, 1,000-manned marching block any day of the week!

I would agree, but you must also remember, just because ohio state does something simple like this dosn't mean they couldnt pull off something technical like a Corp show. I'm a huge DCI nerd, and I would have to say, the only thing I could truley see stopping Ohio state from pulling off a curviature style DCI show is the highstep, and the drum slings. The highstep stops double times, and half times, and the slings stop the drums from doing crabwalks and curves.

good luck to you guys. i'll see you in the shoe when the bobcats get another chance at some buckeye blitz. even though im in the Ohio University Marching 110, just being at the shoe will be a humbling experience, much less seeing 100k plus screaming bucks. good luck and remember to cheer for our band, cuz we'll be cheering for yours, rivalry or not. they are good.
