Best B side ever I think - should have been on Time and released as a single. I remember getting the Hold on Tight single which preceded the album, and finding this on the WRONG SIDE of the single lol
Jeff is believed to be near completing his new solo album which was originally due to be released in June 2010. Was recently finishing off backing vocals.......
Music that feeds the soul, not many groups can provide like elo, i can,t recall a bad song ever by them and this is going back to days of vinyl . good video , great music match, thanks.
Hey TonyC... I just finished watching Silent Running because I had never seen it before and this video you made got me interested. I have put together some of my own music videos using movies myself and you did it perfectly!! What made you decide to use this film for the ELO song?
This was one of my first videos. And i have no idea why i used this film for this song. Sometimes i create images of movies in my head when i listen to a song.
Lynne said in an article on April 23rd 2009, that he has finally been working on the long awaited follow-up to his 1990 solo debut album "Armchair Theatre" with a possible tentative release date of "later this year".
@tonycdrive I dont got no million dollars... but damn. What could he be up to lately? I heard something at some point about him doing video game soundtrack work. You hear anything?
I had tickets to see Jeff perform in Chicago in 2001. The Zoom Tour. God, how I wanted so bad to go to that... small theatre... right up close. Believe it or not, the date was closed due to not enough ticktets bought. On top of that, 9/11 happened. Doubly screwed. Glad the music lives on.
Originally it was not in the "Time" album but in 2001, the album was remastered and reissued on CD with three additional bonus tracks..."The Bouncer"..."When Time Stood Still" and "Julie Don't Live Here"
I've always thought there was something very personal about this song. Which is why I belived Jeff was reluctant to just put it out there at the time he wrote it. Its a little masterpiece. Very sad... very meloncholy... very beautiful. "No submarines or plastic flowers". Makes me think he's mourning the passing of the Beatles glory days.
thanks for giving me some wonderful memories....i loved this tune. i was just leaving school. great vid too. this was actually a 'b' side, if i remember rightly.
and haven't heard it for a long, long time, almost 15 years. But everything is still here in my mind. Every word, every chord, it's just like if time stood still. (Like Lynne said: I wish I was back in 1981 - we laughed about that line in those days, but sometimes we tried to imagine our future. When time has come to say that line again)
as jeff once referred to him on one of his album sleevenotes (cant remember which) 'the majical fingers of Richard Tandy' are so evident here. Great song. Great production. "I wish I was back in 1981".
The reason i choose time as my favourite elo album, is because of its unique sound. He seems to have combined a theme, sci-fi, and great catchy tunes all in one. Albums like oxygen by jan michelle jar, have the same sought of sound but dont have that "feel" that jeff acheives here. Listening to it, you realy feel like your in the future, its where it takes you, thats why i love it. Its genius. What a soundtrack this would make to a good sci-fi movie, ooooooooh yes please!!!!!
I think after the global success of Out of The Blue,it was not going to be easy to keep the momentum up. I think Time was meant to be a double album but the record company pushed Jeff to do a single album instead!
This song should have been on the original release of TIME because it fits in beautifully. TIME is the greatest album ever, Electric Light Orchestra the greatest band ever.
Your right it would be difficult, but it has that same amazing eerie feeling as the rest of the time tracks that it simply should be there. But where? Possibly the reason he left it out, i don't know, i wish he had made it a double album as he had planned, who knows what other gems he might have given us?
ELO and Jeff Lynne are amazing! If you're going through terrible times - ELO music can heal your soul! I wish I knew that people will still listen to them in two or three hundred years!

Good tribute to the song, which I didn't remember until now. I heard a little tribute to John Lennon in the singing style.

This song should have been on the original release of TIME because it fits in beautifully. TIME is the greatest album ever, Electric Light Orchestra the greatest band ever.
ronnieneo 4 years ago
yes, it should have been on that album. but the way each song goes into each other without a space in between, where would you place this one?
tonycdrive 4 years ago
Your right it would be difficult, but it has that same amazing eerie feeling as the rest of the time tracks that it simply should be there. But where? You're absolutely right. True, it's on the 2001 reissue, but it should have been on at the time it was originally released.

They will listen to it even in 1000 years.
Their music has often Beatles quality.
