The danger for the farmland is not that it's flooded; that is nature's way. For thousands of years the rivers flooded these areas and left rich soil which makes for good farm land.
It's what is in the flood waters that mess up the farmland and make it unusable: Petroleum products, raw sewage, chemicals, etc. Some of these are very toxic and can not be removed from the soil.

This sort of thing happens all the time on flood plains, which is what the land around the Mississippi River are. The land is good for farming because flood waters bring new nutrients and soil into the area. The farmers know this and actually hope for such events, although this one seems to be more destructive than they would have wished, but nature still does its job. The next harvest is likely to be very good because of this flood.

Is averting the loss of "hundreds of homes" at the expense of the rights of individual something our Government saw in terms of saving federal dollars? The history of the Soviet Union should be required reading in the U.S.
No, what they did they did to save lives. Farm land can be reclaimed, lives can not. The whole point of blowing the levees was to relieve pressure on the communities upstream who would otherwise have been inundated by flood waters. Those farmers farm on a flood plain, which is artificially obstructed by levees and dams in an attempt to control the flow of the Mississippi. They're well aware of the risks involved in their ownership of that land, catastrophic flooding being one.
Does it matter? It's still a community. How do you think all the people would feel if they had their property destroyed by the floods as opposed to just some farm land? You'd probably be bitching about how the government didn't do anything to prevent it. It's obvious you've already made up your mind in terms of what you think is right and wrong so I won't bother trying to lecture you on facts of the matters at hand.
@insertclichename -- Contempt for private property rights is one of the basic tenants of marxism. It is in direct conflict with the fundamental rights guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution.
You've lost the argument, stop trying, all you're doing now is accusing me of saying something I didn't. I never said I was contemptuous of private property.
@mn8aol It is easy to make your comments from your computer chair, but sometimes people have to make real hard decisions and they were not thinking about you and your opinion when they made them. You are obviously someone who is used to taking orders not giving them. It is harder to be a leader then a follower. Stick to your role in life and let the hard choices be made by those with the education to make them.
@theravenweeps -- U.S. Constitutional law is the ultimate leadership of this nation and every public servant is sworn to obey it. It is within this context that decisions are made. When marxist ideology tests the law and the people remain silent, more than flood victims are affected.
@mn8aol The fact that you still believe all that is what is so sad. Just sad. Oh well, you will be one of the first casualties. Wrapped in your american flag diapers, holding your signs " We have rights, GARSH DARN IT!" Good luck with that. lol

@Lilshit61 Ya! Don't farm on the most fertile soil in the nation! It's all your fault the Army Corp of Engineers blew your levee that was holding back flood waters and flooded your land to save other peoples homes up and down river from you!
"But it did nothing to ease the risk of more trouble down river. (May 4)" (description) well then I guess this is bullshit.... runing those farmer's lives and it didnt even work...
@macreviewer76 its sure is sad....but i doubt if this will ruin their lives. will be tough for a while but, trust me things are pretty god damn tough for everyone. I hope millionaires and billionairs die catastophicallly with their families and ofcourse all courupt official....wow then may be we won't have any government....imagine that

@mn8aol
You've lost the argument, stop trying, all you're doing now is accusing me of saying something I didn't. I never said I was contemptuous of private property.
insertclichename 10 months ago
@insertclichename -- Now you're judge and jury of the debate? Who can argue with a tyrant. You made no defense private property rights either.

@theravenweeps "Stick to your role in life and let the hard choices be made by those with the education to make them."
Spoken like a true Communist. Your day is coming. Your day is coming. We will route you out.

Wrapped in your american flag diapers, holding your signs " We have rights, GARSH DARN IT!" Good luck with that. lol

@theravenweeps -- The 100,000,000 million men, women and children murdered by communism will be our guides.

@theravenweeps -- REVELATION 20:12-14A "AND I SAW THE DEAD, SMALL AND GREAT, STAND BEFORE GOD; AND THE BOOKS WERE OPENED: AND ANOTHER BOOK WAS , WHICH IS THE BOOK OF LIFE; AND THE DEAD WERE JUDGED OUT OF THOSE THINGS WHICH WERE WRITTEN IN THE BOOKS, ACCORDING TO THEIR WORKS. AND THE SEA GAVE UP THE DEAD WHICH WERE IN IT; AND DEATH AND HELL DELIVERED UP THE DEAD WHICH WERE IN THEM: AND THEY WERE JUDGED EVERY MAN ACCORDING TO THEIR WORKS. AND DEATH AND HELL WERE CAST IN TO THE LAKE OF FIRE."

@theravenweeps They blew it up to save shopping malls built in the"Empowerment Zone".Shopping malls are more important than stupid farm land.Big deal ! The livestock and the humans there are causing global warming. This will teach them a lesson for emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. That atmosphere is in receivership to the banks. The average American family owes approx $630,000 in National debt. Get off the land you hicks.Make way for hi tek corporate agribusiness YAY!
