you could use any fabric or clothes, it dosent have to be jeans, and yes the cardboard thing could get wet if you wanted to wash them, you can buy shoe soles for like a dollar at the dollar store or about anywhere, you could actually sew those in and it would be fabric, so you could wash them:)

These are cute, but the pocket makes them mostly impractical for use as anything but indoor slippers. Sewing a few of the belt loops together and attaching them to the sole for a more traditional flip-flop style would actually make them wearable outdoors. Either way, very creative!
