I love my '04 DL650, and like somebody else on this thread mentioned, just about any bike over 500cc will out accelerate 99% of the cars you come across. Of course, I could really use a WRX, too :)
Trouble with the stock DL650 k4 is even with the stock gearing, they only have a ~110 mph top end. Long enough run up, just about anything will catch you. But for that first quarter mile, they have it set up PERFECTLY. I wouldn't mind having a WRX either - I'd sell it and get another bike!!
That's a 650 on the vid... It's damn fast, agile and remember that it's only got 70 bhp. It's not a sports construction but it goes like stink ! So next time you compare the z06 with a motorbike, compare it with one that has 200 bhp... lol
I have a mazda RX8 231bhp and a v-strom 650abs 2007 and I tell you... The strom is damn faster and VERY pleasent to ride. And that is the point... motocycles are much more FUN than cars ! And faster that 99% of all cars out there !
slow isnt the right word. ive got a 1000 and it was plenty fast stock. tuned up now and it would make most riders crap their pants. no busa but i have no prob keeping up with an r1, and i can go offroad.
Yeah, this is worth showing to all those would-be riders who think they HAVE to start on a 600cc, I-4 sportbike. They think anything less than a GSXR600 is "slow." They just don't understand that just about any bike over 500cc is faster than just about any car on the road.
This is a clear indication proving that there are few cars that can hope to even keep up with a motor cycle even a nob sporting type bike such as the DL650. A Corvette Z06 could keep up to, but not pass the DL650 on the drag strip

come on,it is obvious in open wide roads subaru is unbeatable,i have a dl and i like it a lot it is a fine motorbike but it can't compete a wrx

i own several motorcycles. and rx8 are slow peices of shit. you might be able to beat a ninja 250 with it.

i think you got wrong bike if you dont atleast take it on gravel from time to time or go on long rides.
im tossing up between the V-Strom or the GSX650F

if you want to go on gravel get a dirt bike, the DL is just to heavy for some real off-roading.
