To make a long story short, Joker shot Barbara (she was out of costume; he didn't know he was shooting Batgirl) in the stomach, and her spine was hit in the process. No, the first Robin (Dick Grayson) was indeed on the Teen Titans. He was one of the original founders of the team, which consisted of him, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Speedy, and Wonder Girl. Raven, Cyborg, Beast Boy (then called Changeling), and Starfire didn't come along until much later. A while after that group showed up, THEN Dick became Nightwing.
