ohh my goddd you talk wayyyyy too much.. this is knife sharpening, not rocket science!! JEEZ get to your point already and stop going off on tangents! Just tell us "how to strop a knife"
If you mixed Iron Oxide compound and Aluminium compound and heated it that would not be good then you would have Fe2O3Al1 or Thermite, the hottest burning compound known to man.
Yes you can use a leather belt, as long as it is leather youre good to go, if it has a fine and a "furry" side thats even better, go with the furry side first, dont apply much pressure on the belt, usually a softer leathet is found in belts. Polishing compound is not a requirement but i strongly recommend it ;)
Zyhano....can you please do more reviews on folding knives sir? I'm in America and I'm 14 and I "collect" knives. I currently own a Bench made Osbourne 950 Rift Black TiNi Plain Edge knife (which I love). I don't have much money now and my parents are against weapons in general so I need something discreet. I love your videos!
are you going to sharpen the knife? Because someone used mine to cut strawberries and didn't clean it off, so i'm really angry, so i'm trying to sharpen it to use it on er'.
@packersfan117 I appreciate that, and that's absolutely not what I think. There's smart people and good folks everywhere :) and the reverse is true also lol
@RightWingCon81 only get the ones that are allowed. All my knives are legal to own. unfortunately, laws are getting more and more restrictive everywhere...
@RightWingCon81 It depends on the respective laws of one nation. They do very quite a bit, while most countries here tend to have quite restrictive laws, there are still exceptions. Like the liberal knife relating laws in Finnland and particularly Austria, where literally everything goes(except sword cranes and such).
I've gotten an extreme polish and a very sharp edge on my wood carving knives using just a strop loaded with aluminum oxide. I use other stuff on my other knives, but if aluminum oxide's rough, as you say, it's still plenty fine as far as stropping. I imagine if I used some of the extremely fine compounds, I should be able to practically see through my knives. :) Just kidding, obviously.
@jeoofro69 Hey, it's just some pinewood (vuren), soft wood. The leather is just 4mm cowhide vegetable tanned. Most leathers will do, since they only act as the carrier for the abrasive. I'm using a no brand polish material from the hardware store. It's probably not the best out there. I also have dmt diamond pasted strops, which is of a very high quality for abrasives.

I thought that you are supposed to strop with the knife flat to the leather, not holding it at the angle you sharpen it at. Am I wrong?

I noticed that the Rockstead knife makers were using silver polish to do their knives. Those Rockstead blades are very sharp.

Great vid!

@junstar81 Thanks my friend, I used to do fuzzy, these days, the smooth side, gives you even more sharpness

This guy is clearly European and he speaks more perfect English than 90% of the Americans that I know.

@philipm377 for me it's a compliment :) for an American an insult lol. thanks man
zyhano 1 year ago
@philipm377 "more prefect" is redundant. Something is perfect or it is not. Sorry to be pedantic but it is fitting given the context.
