  • 3people are deaf blind and dumb?

  • the first lord of the rings movie is my favorite of the three...

  • The Best Song about AIDS Ever...

  • @LOKIUNCIA That's what I thought it was about. Very good song. Only song that can make me cry.

  • Happy 65th birthday, Freddie Mercury.

  • this is pretty much the last story of my dad. he put up so many walls to communication, even at the end... we could have had a relationship. i could have been your son

  • why isnt there a love button

  • I was listening to this song in public the other day on my headphones. I've heard it a bazzzilion times, but something happened and I came very very close to breaking down. Kudos to Against Me's courage to write a song like this!

  • Literal or Metaphorical? A song charged with this much emotion can't help but be a little bit of both and i think it is a little bit of both but i want to make a case for the meta metaphorical version. Up until revisiting this song several minutes ago i hated Against Me! I hated them because they meant so much to me and then they left me to go make tons of money. If this song was meant to be an apology... that makes me feel better. either way, This song was Tom saying goodbye to his former fans.

  • I've never heard this side of Against Me before. So good.

  • 13 ppl searched too hard to find they're former clarity

  • The Song Isn't A Metaphor For Selling Out, Because Against Me Never Sold Out. But They Do Sell Out...Every Concert.

  • @PunkRockGuitarMan

I could forgive Against Me! for going to a major label. I will never forgive them for becoming sissy Liberals. Oh well, there's always their first two albums.

  • @AlaricxMalgraith

but they are still absolutely amazing, but I agree with 100% of what you said.

  • This song is only worth anything if it is literal. It's heart wrenching and amazing if it's about AIDS. I broke down crying the first time I heard it. If it's really a metaphor for selling out, it's a horrible song. Comparing the struggles and agony of someone who is slowly dying of AIDS to a band selling out is disgusting. The songs only value is in it's face value.

That being said, I have no idea if Against Me! meant it to be literal or a metaphor, but I can only hope they meant it literally.

  • @bunnyhoehoe Who are you to say that if this song isn't about AIDS then its a "horrible" and "disgusting" song? Lyrics are intended to be interpreted different ways. Your post truly pissed me off.

  • @AFormerClarityband I'm saying that it is completely disgusting to to even try to compare the trials and hardships of someone going through the terror of their own body turning on itself to something as trivial as a band selling out. I'm not saying that it isn't a powerful and emotional story. I'm saying that that particular interpretation is significantly less meaningful and, if I may say so, offensive to anyone that has had to go through the torture that AIDS is.

  • Amazing ^^

  • Against me! is amazing. I love them!

  • Very touching lyrics

  • this song is mad good on full blast.

  • This sounds terrifyingly similar to The Mountain Goats.

  • its not about aids, its a metaphor for selling out.

  • That's probably what it was written for, but you can interpret the lyrics a lot of different ways

  • @Cheesiethecheese

    its definitely about HIV/aids lmao.

"confessing childhood secrets of dressing up in womens clothes, compulsions you never knew the reason to"

events leading up to being gay (compulsions that now make sense).

"as the disease pumps slowly through your body, pumped by your heart"

how can you even say this isn't about aids? :S it obviously is lol.

  • @Cheesiethecheese

"As you offered witness to mortality in exchange for the ticket price"

"As you fell to your knees in the centre of the stage"

    "Let all be forgiven"

I can see where you're coming from, and I have to agree with you. You can take it as a real disease though, and then you can add in corruption (Selling out) to it.

You can also add lying to yourself, just check out the middle of the song, although that does also cover corruption.

  • based on him.

  • best song in the world ,, or up there

  • firrr- aw dam of by 51

  • AIDS :(

  • @kristeng06 spot on.

  • starving

  • turkey sandwich, bitch

  • its all about having an Xbox and fancy fat pow skis for the deep gnar. fuck the rest, gondolas are great places to get dome or vaggies, and you can always jam out to am! on your fancy skiing ipod. booya

  • i dont know what the fuck your talking about, but against me is definitely rad to ski to!

  • I'm with the last guy. This is great and positively touching song, and we should all just respect it's aura of goodness.

  • Can we please just enjoy this epic piece of awesomeness?

  • i kinda figured it was about Aids but i thought it might be a sort of tribute to Freddy Mercury

  • Song is about AIDS.

    No further comment :P

  • Tom Gable as said it before, they're using dying of AIDS as a metaphor for them changing their sound and all that jazz that happened. pretty much what againstwhatever said.

  • does that affect how good the song is? no, so it doesn't matter it wouldn't matter if it was a song about how the person is turning into a polka dotted elephant its still good

  • No. .. the song is fantastic. .. and it's about AIDS. . .what do the two have to do with each other?

  • song is emotion put into rythm and this is their emotion towards aids

  • this song isnt good...

its just the best song ever made

  • this is just ritarded....very sad..

  • this is sad when you cant even spell retarded correctly. thats what is sad, the fact that in america nowadays having an xbox is more important than getting decent grades.

  • Can you blame the youth though? The american education system is one of the biggest jokes of the entire world.

  • @kitesinfection "that's"

  • I want to go to Gainseville and eat at Warren's restaurant.

    :D

  • I went there and the food, atmosphere and service was great. Only bad thing was the Warren wasn't there. Great burritos.

  • A++ def. better than mine

  • Wow! Thank you!! I actually thought you'd bash me down! haha

  • i hate the fact that their music style changed, but that was their decision. and just cause we believe what they did wasnt right doesnt mean they do, so i take this song at face value. idk either way fucking great song

  • this is why Against Me! changed my life

  • tis song is amazing. you really have to listen to the lyrics to get the full understanding.but if you listen youll love it!

  • this song is epic. Especialy how it ends.

  • could be, altho freddy new he was dying and the doctors had confirmed it , he told the press officialy the night before the mornin he was found dead

  • Well it says but you knew all along so maybe

  • I had heard this song was about Freddy Mercury. Not saying it is, just saying I *heard* it is.

  • That's what I was thinking too. It sounds like it.

  • anyone else notice how their second guitarist (behind tom on the right) looks like he's the subject of this song???

  • how do you figure?

  • The song, as I understand itm is about a dying man, the second guitrist looks pretty pale,

btw I'm not saying it's about him, I was actually pointing out as I thought it mildly amusing

  • interpretation is based on your own perceptions and history. I can hardly keep myself from bawling when i hear this song. I can only think of my dad dying. not that its happened yet, but more than a pack a day for 14 years has convinced me that i wont allow myself that experience a death as painful as the one in this song. Once you can change your shoes, you learn a lot more about yourself.

  • this song has nothing to do with smashing lockers, listen to the music you hear man. This song has alot more meaning than mindless violence

  • music doesn't just have one interpretation. what is sad to someone may be frustrating, or even provoke anger (smashing lockers) to someone else. I wouldn't recommend smashing lockers in with your fist, but that's beside the point.

  • what makes AM! so great is that it isnt just tom gabel and a bunch of other musicians. andrew, james and warren would make awesome front men too. tom gabel is just (in my opinion) the best active front man out there now, and the rest are so fucking awesome too, they're all individually just great musicians.

great music, lyrics, great fan base and are just fucking awesome guys. they'll always be my favorite bunch of musicians of all time. "the perfect band"

  • Well said ih8thecharts! Agreed 100%

  • @ih8thecharts couldnt have put it better.

  • fucking awesome song. i love against me.

  • wow.. someone made a rude comment.. and I DO think TOM Is GOD He Got Me Through Some Rough Times So Before You Open Your Inconsiderate Shallow Mouth Appreciate The Music And Shhh.

  • Typing like that makes you a retard.

  • Says the guy who reads ALL the youtube comments specifically to troll ?

  • Damn, I meant to reply to that guy typing all his words with a capital at the beginning. And no, I didn't read all the comments. His just stood out for being retarded.

  • this song is incredibly sad....

    but awesome

  • Almost Makes You Cry Eh.. Its Because Tom Sings With Such Passion He Cares About The Songs He Sings Every Single One Of Them.. His Lyrics Never Cease To Amaze Me.. Amazingly This Is The First Time I Listened To Former Clarity And Im A Huge AM Fan.. Heh Flame Me If You Want Keep Playing That Music Guys...
