What kind of snake do you recommend for beginners, especially for people who never had a snake or reptiles before, which have no experience with handling this kind of animals; is a Corn snake a good starter choice and should the animal be young or already adult, male or female? I wanted even to know if the presence in the house of a dog could cause problems to the snake like stress , diseases ecc. (eventually even for the dog).
i just bought an adult corn snake and while i was holding it it coiled around my wrist and opened its mouth at my forearm is this normal i washed my hands and havent fed it yet according to the breeder it didnt need to eat for another week and 4 days
i have a question my snake was eating fine for 2 monyths den it suddenly stop eating in a 3rd month ii tried to give it again d it wont take it any sugggestions
1. As it's thermostated this wont happen considering it's a corn. If this was for a heavy boid I would agree with you as it can cause thermo blocking in the heatmat.
2. I agree, not that they like to stretch out though, more that it's cramped. You could get away with 2 in a 3x2x2 but I would go up to a 4x2x2 for the extra one.
3. Depends on the food choice. I personally feed mine a large mouse every 2 weeks. But you could feed a small mouse every week and still be same.
@TheReptileking011 hi, we don't at the moment, but we are opening franchises around the country so there will be vacancies at some point. Search for 'Realm of Reptiles' on Facebook or Twitter to keep updated
I just want to know what the best way to introduce two corns too each other is, because I'd prefer mine living together but at the moment they are living in seperate tanks thanks
excellent video... when you mentioned about creating colonies or breeding corn snakes. should you house them together? ive read a mix of opinion on the matter
that so called adult corn at 1.50 is tiny i held a monster specemin at a local garden centre it must have been 6.5' so i know they dont stop at 5' for a fact
@TheReptileking011 you have to talk about averages with the animals. It's not wrong to tell people to "expect a corn snake to not reach more than 5ft", because most don't.
@ReptileCentre cool now that i have your attention could you tell me how much you charge for a 4'x2'x2' wooden vivarium and could you ship one to me in manchester (permitting the price is right)
@TheReptileking011 shipping to Manchester is currently £5.95, the cost of vivs varies but if you go to our website and look up the EX48 or EX55 you will get the latest price of a viv in that size range
i am going to buy one corn snake at the end of this month and all its enclosure needs and so on would you you tell me how much i will need for all of this thanks.
I was thinking about buying a corn or a milk. I was wondering if it would be ok in a 55 gallon tank once its at an adult. I know to put the baby in a 10 gal but once it get bigger would it be ok in a 55 or is that too big?
Hey, I have a few snakes and about a fortnight ago I got a baby apricot pueblan milk. A few days ago it shed but it didn't come off in one. I have made sure all the skin is removed but how can I avoid this in the future ?? Thanks
for example i have a corn for a year now i want to and another one but mine is a male it have to be male the new one they wont figth or some thin like that

i got a florida king, had her just over a year n she was six month when i got her, i still feed once a week, shuld i star feeding once every two week, i dont want to make her over wieght, she is just over 3ft, shes my first snake so still learning, i took her to the vet the other week and was told shes very healthy so must be doing summet right, and is she big enuf to move into a 3ft viv, shes in a 2ft at the min but a friend told me wait another year before i move her
im getting a corn snake i am a reptile man but this is my first time that i will be getting a snake my previous pet was tortoise's but anyways just wondering is it vinimis
@HitThatBeatStudios do they give a reason why? As long as they are roughly the same size they are absolutely fine. Sometimes males may spar with each other at breeding time but this is relatively non-aggressive and serves just to decide who is dominant. We have lots of our corns in together.
that was good. all of the videos iv seen today and over the last few weeks this is the most helpful and interesting and motivated me more to get a snake wether a king snake or corn snake. thanks. but would you help me on one question? do corn snakes and milk snakes have teeth? thanks
@MrCyberthug97 the mat is on a thermostat so will not be on during the day as the bulb temperature is higher than the setting on the thermostat. At night the bulb goes off and the thermostat turns on the heat mat.
would you recommend a corn snake for a beginner in reptile keeping. i've already considered if I could afford to keep one, and when I could fit it in, in the future but are they recommended for beginners?
If you house the snakes together... how do you determine which has had, say, a regurge? or what if there is an issue with the feces; how do you know which snake produced that sample? For colonies, say you get an animal sexed, via both popping and probing and both those methods say 'female' and you plop it in with another girl. You mentioned concerns about breeding too young. I have a male who both popped and probed female. Egg binding ahoy?
@shiariryu we separate all snakes when we feed them and leave them separated for around 18 hours. It's quite unusual for them to have a regurge after that, especially as our temperatures are perfect and we do not allow anybody to handle them for at least a day after feeding.
If we thought their was an issue with the health of any snakes they would be separated but again it rarely happens. If corns get ill after a certain age, you usually have to question the environmental aspect of the husbandry
Kingsnakes can be potentially cannibalistic?? I didn't know that. What I do know is that they ARE cannibalistic, their natural prey is other snakes.
Similar in some ways to corns being opportunistic eaters, they will eat if they have the opportunity, especially as hatchies. I wonder if they'd eat another corn given the opportunity??? I also note that the mat is stat'd, very few people say to do that, so well done. However the lamp isn't, is the lamp AND mat essential together?? if so, why?
@Kehhlyr we use the mat and bulb for different jobs. The bulb raises the air temperature during the day, replicating the sun (heat mats do not heat air). The bulb goes off and the heat mat comes on at night, replicating the retained heat in the ground from the sun.
It's a nice system, and keeps our snakes (and our customers) in superb condition.
i love snakes :) i really want a milksnake!, (i got a boa constrictor now) but my last snake (an african housesnake)was very aggressive, i almost couldn't take her out :s how can i make my milksnake calm and relaxed if i get one? please tell me. //Stephanie
@TheInsaneStephanie House Snakes can be pretty wild sometimes. Milks are lovely though, if you handle them regularly you'll be assuring them that you are nothing that they need to worry or be nervous about.
@cuentanumero11 different countries have different laws and legislation regarding this. My personal opinion is that it is unnecessary, especially with corn snakes. You'd also be surprised at the damage a live mouse could potentially do to a snake if there's a struggle.
For the Feeding. I have a 4ft Creamsicle Corn snake, and when i feed him i tend to defrost the mice a little faster by soaking them in hot water and then trying them off a bit with a towel. Is this ok or should i just let them thaw on their own?
@Valodone i prefer to let them defrost slower so I know that they are defrosted right through the middle. But if you are certain they are thoroughly defrosted then it is fine
@alpine691 it's so unbelievably rare that it's not even worth mentioning. It's like saying humans shouldn't live together because some humans are murderers.
@ReptileCentre are you saying certain humans aren't murderers? humans and snakes are two completely different animals. humans can tell if other humans are going to murder them, but you cant tell if your snake is going to eat another snake. if there's a possibility it could happen than you should just avoid it altogether.
but what do i know? i only take my advice from one of the best corn snake forums around.
@alpine691 we work with hundreds of these snakes everyday. We breed countless corn snakes every year. We've been doing this successfully for the past 17 years. But what do we know either hey?
It's great that you do your own research, and with your snakes you should only do what every your comfortable doing. You just need to consider how extremely unlikely this is, even with the quantities we deal with, I've never experienced it, ever.
@ReptileCentre meh, to each their own. if there's a possibility that it could happen, it will happen and i've seen too many examples of why it's a bad idea. I would especially hate if one of the people you give advice to (whom were not even sure on how experienced they are with snakes) turned out to be a statistic of cohab-cannibalism. it's best to just avoid the situation altogether.

@matty140397 a baby can be kept in a 2' vivarium. Set up the same way as this video just on a smaller scale. How often they shed depends on how fast they are growing, which depends on genetics, food, temperature etc so I can't really answer that accurately.
i have like a 20gal or 30gal tank its wood and has sliding doors at the front is it ok for a baby corn snake or is it too big? and should i feed my snake once a week and whats the best to put onthe floor aspen or wood chip???
@MrILiKeToMoD it would be fine providing you have plenty of hides so it feels secure. Babies feed once a week, adults once a fortnight. You can used either aspen or woodchip, I think woodchip looks nicer but that's your choice
@yiannis1996 ball pythons are not difficult to care for but corn snakes are by far the best beginners snake due to ease of care and docile temperament. My advice though, go for which ever you prefer, they are both great pet snakes.
@rolfess69 yeh if you handle kings (including milks) regularly they are every bit as docile as corn snakes. I think the colours on milk snakes are hard to beat though
in a wooden viv a heat mat isnt needed if you have the other heat source (ceramic lamp/bulb) because its non light emitting on a dimmer it controls the heat great, because its set at one end , its going to get colder te futher it is away, this creating a cool end up to 10 degree less so it will reside at that end at night and baskon the hot end during the day
@kaleluk31 that's exactly how we keep our arboreal snakes that would not benefit from ground heat during the night so require 'air temperature'. Well, ceramic and pulse stat.
@ReptileCentre well ive had a royal/ball python and now i have a corn snake. in a wooden vivarium i never bother with a heat mat if i have a ceramic lamp/bulb on a dimmer thermostat because it heats up ambiant temp, and because the bulb/lamp is at one end then it has a cool end and a warm end, at night it will move around all the vivarium but sleep at the cool end, during the day, just before it get light it will normally move across to the warm end where it will stay untill its well dark again
ive always been told that you need a minimum of 2 hides in a wooden vivarium, 1 at cold end another at warm end.
a light bulb isnt needed if you have natural light comming in to the room its in, besides that 99% they come out at night time hours.
for heat i use a guarded ceramic heat bulb/lamp thats non light emitting on a dimming thermostat and using a digital thermomiter for apsolute accuracy and monitoring.
@Maul767 a female corn snake will do better in a 4ft wooden viv cos they can grow to 6ft and like the floor space to go around in, a 3ft is ok for a male cos they get to 4-5 feet something like 3ft x 18 x 18 vivarium minimum.
mat!

Hello. For the feeding, is it ok to feed them live mice? Because i can get live mice fairly easily, and getting frozen ones is rather difficult here.
cuentanumero11 1 year ago
@cuentanumero11 different countries have different laws and legislation regarding this. My personal opinion is that it is unnecessary, especially with corn snakes. You'd also be surprised at the damage a live mouse could potentially do to a snake if there's a struggle.
ReptileCentre 1 year ago
For the Feeding. I have a 4ft Creamsicle Corn snake, and when i feed him i tend to defrost the mice a little faster by soaking them in hot water and then trying them off a bit with a towel. Is this ok or should i just let them thaw on their own?
Valodone 1 year ago
@Valodone i prefer to let them defrost slower so I know that they are defrosted right through the middle. But if you are certain they are thoroughly defrosted then it is fine
ReptileCentre 1 year ago
hey, i am planing on getting one, two or maybe three baby corn snakes of the same sex, is it safe to keep them all in one tank?
MrJacc94 1 year ago
@MrJacc94 yes that's absolutely fine, corns are so placid they get on ok with each other
ReptileCentre 1 year ago
@MrJacc94 DONT LISTEN TO HER! look up corn snake cannibalism. you'll see what i'm talking about
alpine691 1 year ago
@alpine691 it's so unbelievably rare that it's not even worth mentioning. It's like saying humans shouldn't live together because some humans are murderers.
ReptileCentre 1 year ago 4
@ReptileCentre are you saying certain humans aren't murderers? humans and snakes are two completely different animals. humans can tell if other humans are going to murder them, but you cant tell if your snake is going to eat another snake. if there's a possibility it could happen than you should just avoid it altogether.
but what do i know? i only take my advice from one of the best corn snake forums around.
alpine691 1 year ago
@alpine691 we work with hundreds of these snakes everyday. We breed countless corn snakes every year. We've been doing this successfully for the past 17 years. But what do we know either hey?
It's great that you do your own research, and with your snakes you should only do what every your comfortable doing. You just need to consider how extremely unlikely this is, even with the quantities we deal with, I've never experienced it, ever.
ReptileCentre 1 year ago
@ReptileCentre meh, to each their own. if there's a possibility that it could happen, it will happen and i've seen too many examples of why it's a bad idea. I would especially hate if one of the people you give advice to (whom were not even sure on how experienced they are with snakes) turned out to be a statistic of cohab-cannibalism. it's best to just avoid the situation altogether.
alpine691 1 year ago
@ReptileCentre
The counter to this is that humans are not squished into glass boxes together. If we want, we can get far far away.

@ReptileCentre ok but that werent my question i have another one if u scroll down could u plz answer it??
MrILiKeToMoD 1 year ago
@ReptileCentre what size would you recomend for a baby and how often do they shed ?
matty140397 1 year ago
@matty140397 a baby can be kept in a 2' vivarium. Set up the same way as this video just on a smaller scale. How often they shed depends on how fast they are growing, which depends on genetics, food, temperature etc so I can't really answer that accurately.

i have like a 20gal or 30gal tank its wood and has sliding doors at the front is it ok for a baby corn snake or is it too big? and should i feed my snake once a week and whats the best to put onthe floor aspen or wood chip???
MrILiKeToMoD 1 year ago
@MrILiKeToMoD it would be fine providing you have plenty of hides so it feels secure. Babies feed once a week, adults once a fortnight. You can used either aspen or woodchip, I think woodchip looks nicer but that's your choice

@Rawlinlikeafishy snakes know what side their bread is buttered, but to interpret them as feelings? I guess we'll never know 100%

I havent purshaded any snake yet... Is a ball python a better choice than a corn snake for me... which is the easiest to care for??
yiannis1996 1 year ago
@yiannis1996 I would reckon a corn snake but i like balls more
Vinter217 1 year ago
thanks for your advice...
yiannis1996 1 year ago
@yiannis1996 ball pythons are not difficult to care for but corn snakes are by far the best beginners snake due to ease of care and docile temperament. My advice though, go for which ever you prefer, they are both great pet snakes.
ReptileCentre 1 year ago
hey when it comes to handling milk snakes: are they about as docile and tame (when you handle them from being young) as corn snakes? thx.
rolfess69 1 year ago
@rolfess69 yeh if you handle kings (including milks) regularly they are every bit as docile as corn snakes. I think the colours on milk snakes are hard to beat though

in a wooden viv a heat mat isnt needed if you have the other heat source (ceramic lamp/bulb) because its non light emitting on a dimmer it controls the heat great, because its set at one end , its going to get colder te futher it is away, this creating a cool end up to 10 degree less so it will reside at that end at night and baskon the hot end during the day
kaleluk31 1 year ago
@kaleluk31 that's exactly how we keep our arboreal snakes that would not benefit from ground heat during the night so require 'air temperature'. Well, ceramic and pulse stat.
ReptileCentre 1 year ago
@ReptileCentre well ive had a royal/ball python and now i have a corn snake. in a wooden vivarium i never bother with a heat mat if i have a ceramic lamp/bulb on a dimmer thermostat because it heats up ambiant temp, and because the bulb/lamp is at one end then it has a cool end and a warm end, at night it will move around all the vivarium but sleep at the cool end, during the day, just before it get light it will normally move across to the warm end where it will stay untill its well dark again
kaleluk31 1 year ago
@kaleluk31 exactly, heatmat is pointless if you have a ceramic for the night
ReptileCentre 1 year ago
ive always been told that you need a minimum of 2 hides in a wooden vivarium, 1 at cold end another at warm end.
a light bulb isnt needed if you have natural light comming in to the room its in, besides that 99% they come out at night time hours.
for heat i use a guarded ceramic heat bulb/lamp thats non light emitting on a dimming thermostat and using a digital thermomiter for apsolute accuracy and monitoring.

how come u use a bulb i thought they only need a heat mat and wht size is the heat mat i have a 3 ft viv and will a 3ft viv be ok for a adult
Maul767 1 year ago
@Maul767 a female corn snake will do better in a 4ft wooden viv cos they can grow to 6ft and like the floor space to go around in, a 3ft is ok for a male cos they get to 4-5 feet something like 3ft x 18 x 18 vivarium minimum.
