  • My favorite Glen Campbell song. But, again, shut up with the political commentary. It's a love song, get it???? I guy out on the lonely mid west plains singing of the emptiness we all experience. This song is timeless and so is it's message, and it's message is NON-POLITICAL!

  • I finally understood the whine of the wires when I spent a lot of time out in the Nebraska Panhandle. It made me think of this song and helped me to better understand the beautiful sentiment.

  • How does a beautiful Glen Campbell song turn into a political discussion? What is wrong with you people?

  • @littlefeatlowell Seriously!! Shut up and show some respect here please.

  • Focus on the music, not the arguments.

  • @strangestringsnyc Music is a reflection of the health and prosperity of a society. So talking about what is going on in America has to do with music. It is all intertwined. The Sixties had many problems but people in America had hope and were much happier. Americans seem to have lost hope and are very unhappy with the government and Congress. Many are suffering economically. I dont see any beautiful songs like Witchita Lineman being released now. Music is a reflection of culture.

  • @MrJim12341121 Very true

  • @MrJim12341121 People should check out some of the interviews on coast to coast radio 550 AM, late nights with george noory and other hosts. You will learn a LOT.

    Uncensored news.

  • According to a music theory book I have there was a famous chinese emporer who said he could tell the health of the people in his provences by the music they made. In the seventies people still had a code. There were criminals and druggies but neighbors watched out for each other and people helped the elderly and handicapped and corporations didnt rape people - at least not blatantly. You could get out of college work three years and buy a house in a GOOD neighborhood. What Happened???

  • @Guildguy2

I wasn't even alive then but I can totally relate to what you are saying! Things must have been better - not just the great songs coming out like Wichita Lineman.

  • @Guildguy2 The middle class in America has disappeared. 1 in 2 americans living in poverty. Why? The US Government is no longer spending the money on its citizens to make a better life for them. They are funneling taxpayer money for their own pockets and interest including wars under false prestenses. Yes It is the US governemnt in bed with big business that does not allow a man to support a family and have health insurance and a house in America. WE THE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ROBBED OF FUTURE

  • @MrJim12341121 And the government, in the name of protecting ("serving and suckling up to" is a better term) the Big Banks, is bailing them out with OUR taxes so the banks could better invest in businesses in China. RE-ELECT NOBODY!

  • @littlemikey1954 You took the words right out of my mouth. I could not a agree more with what you said. Government in bed with big business along with a police state = Facism. America has become Facist country in my lifetime. The passage of the NDAA on January 1 signed by Obama now gives the US military the right to detain without charge or conviction or trial an American on American soil indefinitley and strip them of their citizenship without charge or trial. Martial law is coming soon

  • There will be another Glen.My favorite song.My first love.So sorry about your memory problems. You will go down in history as one of the very best!!!!!!

  • a broad range of gifted and seasoned musicians have a kinship to this song. This song has an eerie contact to the past.Sorry to say that Glen has alzheimers now but this is the one he will be remembered for

  • never realised he was so good live---brilliant

  • beautiful song and glen is so good-looking. I was always told my husband looked like him in his youth.

  • 1968? I seem to remember it was the rear I left home.

  • What year was this recorded? I used to watch the show as a child.

  • I remember watching glens show a kid.He was then and still is amazing. What a great singer and truly one of the great guitar players of our time.He made the ovation guitar something we all wanted...and I got one just like his...ha.

  • Love it! I just wish he had also played the instrumental closing too. I love the drums and strings in that section of the song.

  • What a song

  • I NEED U MORE THAN WANT U..AND WANT U FOR ALL TIME!!!!...is probobly the best lyrical line ever written!...It's REAL...and soooo DEEP!....Can't ever keep from getting choked up whenever I hear this song!!!

  • @ MrJim12341121: And....he's singing LIVE.

  • mr.jim12341121, I agree with you totally. Except that this rap techno twitter facebook google digital world can kiss my black ass. Man even as a black man, i wonder how bad the omish life really is? cause the world in which I grew up here in america is gone. I miss all of my white friends and black friends and hispanic friends, and jewish friends i grew up with. We shared tv shows, movies, music, sports, and in 1975 we got along great. Heres to yesterday!

  • @notmeforsure100 Beautifully put...

  • Respond to this video... Well put...

  • @notmeforsure100 now a days its all about money! the damn CEOs as the prime example!

  • THE BEST LOVE LYRIC OF ALL TIME....AND I NEED YOU MORE THAN WANT YOU AND I WANT YOU FOR ALL TIME.....

  • @unchainedmelody1 ....Oh my God..I just now read your response to this song!...It's almost exactly what I said too!...Bravo!...= )....(even used all caps @ begining too!..ha ha)...I almost shit when I read yours after posting mine!

  • This song reminds me of my life, all work, and no life, while my family grows and their deaths pass me by.

  • Now THIS is what I call "REAL COUNTRY!" Glenn Campbell is indeed one of the last true troubadors... :^)

  • Remember the movie he was in ... "Norwood' ????

  • @1960sgirl1 haha.... I'm trying to get a copy of it!! I bought the soundtrack on vinyl the other day and SO WANT to see the movie! Netflix had it, but not anymore... crappy digital age!

  • This makes me think of simpler times. I miss these type of songs with clear voices that one can close their eyes and just listen. Takes you to lying ona grassy field and looking up at the blue sky without any cares. We all need that!

  • @debraann654 Wow, have you mirrored my own thoughts. So comforting, and pleasing, to know that someone else has the same perspective, and delights in it.

  • I saw Glen Campbell on a talk show with his wife last night....so sad to hear he has alzheimers....this has always been my fav song of his.....thanks for posting

  • I remember hearing this song on the summer replacement show and wanting the album so bad I saved up my baby sitting money to get it. There was a special promotion where you could get a lithograph poster of Glen with purchase of the album. I still have the album, but the poster got lost long ago.

When I heard that Glen has Alzheimers, I cried. One of the most beautiful voices to ever sing on the planet will soon be silenced and there won't be another one like it again in my lifetime.

  • Glen Campbell will always remain one of the greatest performers this song still beings chills to my soul, the soul of the lineman comes through the line through Glens delicately haunting lyrics and voice. I was saddened to find out he is suffering from Alzeimers. Glen know your fans will never forget your contributions to the music world. You will always embody the soul of The Wichita Lineman to me, You are and will always be remembered!

  • I remember when this song came out. We love it because it came at a time when all was still right with the world.

  • since the land line is almost obsolete he could update this with the Witchita Verizonman

  • I could not agree more with your comment!!!

  • I am sad about Glen being diagnosed with Alzheimer's... He said on a recent interview that this(Wichita Lineman) is his favorite song that he has ever recorded and sang...Mine too...Jimmy Webb wrote this song....Blessings to you dear Glen...

  • Wonderful singer and guitar player....and a beautiful head of hair on top of that!

  • what a great talent this man is one of the most under rated in my humble opinion thanks for posting

  • Land line what the hell was that ?

  • can you imagine him being a beach boy replacing brian wilson and writing some of their hit gutar licks like the intro to fun fun fun

  • this is a studio guitar player who also sings like a bird...a real star

  • TODAYS MUSIC SUCKS.THE RAPPERS CAN KISS MA ROSY RED ASSHOLE. BIGGDOGG007.

  • Lots of memories of the first lady I fell in love with. 1969 .... She left me after I joined the USAF.....I guess she did not love me as much as I believed........I hope she is well

  • Glen always been rightfully respected as a great guitar player, hope things are going good with him these days

  • There are not many musicians that can play a 12 string guitar so good as Glen and sing good too. A legend!

  • Love Glen Campbell. Prayers go out to you

  • Glen, love your music! God bless you.

  • I'm praying for your Glen! Alzheimer's is a terrible thing.

  • gotta love it when ur boyfriend sends u this one :)

  • one of the greatest singers but also one of the greatest guitar players. this guy and feliciano could do ANYTHING those rock players could do and some things they couldn't.

  • A song like this couldn't be written or recorded today. That skill has been lost forever. More's the pity.

  • Beautiful, Glen--Just beautiful ! It's definitely my favorite record of all time.

  • Glenn Campbell once buttphucked Tanya Tucker at her junior high school prom.

  • Ah the good old days! .... ....

  • When I married my husband 31 years ago, my sister wanted this sang at our wedding because he is a lineman. It is a beautiful song.

  • This song has magic.

    Such a great song.

  • Campell, Dionne Warwick, Bert Bacarct,Jimmy ebb, Laura Nero ... MacArther Park ...... Such great music and poet laureates of the Boomers ... overshadowed by wet cats locked in a tin room, and singers taught by Yoko Ono

  • kitsch

  • @tropftrichter Yup, but who doesn't love a little kitsch from time to time? : )

  • I just put this song on my player two days ago. It is lovely. Too lovely to use any bad language like what someone wrote. Tell your girlfriend to kiss and lets be nice.

  • This song and the show it was taped from brings back such great memories of a time in my life when I was in love with my first real girlfriend..halcyon..innocent..1968

  • I remember watching the Goodtime Hour when it aired. As always,Jimmy Webb scored another chart topper with this classic.

  • What happened to good old soft rock and roll with nice story lines. This rap techno twitter facebook google iphone cell phone digital world can kiss my white ass. The world has gone to shit in a hand basket. Of course I am a hippocrite because I am on a computer right now. But this computer is all I use and I use it mainly to listen to music and watch shows.

  • @MrJim12341121 Real feeling.... taken out of the world by, 911.

  • @MrJim12341121

There is a place for all kinds of creativity. Simple as that. I know many of us yearn for the simpler times, but they aint coming around again until we stand up up and make it happen.

    Light a candle.

  • @MrJim12341121 --------AMEN DUDE! I think the line "I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time" is one of the greatest lyrics ever written. And for all the haters, notice I said "ONE OF THE GREATEST" not the greatest.

  • @MrJim12341121 If you want to go back to the 60's with rampant racism and young uneducated kids being sent to their death in Vietnam (some things don't change) then I think I'll pass.

  • @ssjcuk Your point is understood but at least in the 1960's everyone had a job and a man could support his two kids and have a house with his wife staying at home. Mark Zuckerberg at 27 net worth is equal to 34.7% of the poorest Americans. Thats right, he has the net worth of more than 1 in 3 Americans. 1% of the population has 40% of the wealth. 50 miliion Americans without health insurance. 20 million mortgages underwater. Its time we OCCUPY AMERICA. WE COUNT. Economic stife creates war

  • @MrJim12341121 I here you Jim....it appears our outlooks are more in line than it first seemed!

  • @MrJim12341121 A-Fuckin-men

  • sweet 12 string action

  • wow I remember being 7 years old watching this show, what a great entertainer

  • two words, romantic song

  • ..what a beautiful song....where would we be without electricity.

  • The great John Hartford is in the background.

  • "and I need you more than want you.....and I want you for all time......."

  • Thackerville Oklahoma TONIGHT in concert 6/18/10 can't wait to finally see the show

  • ...he needs a vacay from this very dangerous job.

  • ..i wonder if he ever got shocked.

  • @jonieheffner funny that someone like you makes that suggestion

  • @panlemans ..constant travel, physically demanding, long hours, water and

electricity...does it really shock you that someone like me would suggest

    a vacation?

  • one of the best voices of all time, time has not diminished the power of this song in the slightest

  • ,,,,i w a n t t o t o u c h h i s h a i r.

  • Surely one of the best lines ever,"i need you more than want you and i want you for all time" says it all for the way i am feeling at the moment!!

  • You're feeling corny?

  • No but it rhymes with it!

  • OK, you win.

  • Bring back Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour!!!!

  • Another fine rendition of this classic song.

  • @blueavenue2 - this song is one of Jimmy Webb's best.

  • Simply awesome!

  • Uh, the word you're looking for is "rapIST," not "raper." Being a mental defective, you wouldn't know that of course. Now go piss off.

  • bellier20, "raper" is an English word that is a synonym of "rapist." A quick glance in any dictionary would have confirmed that for you. Being a mental defective, you wouldn't know how to do that of course. Now go piss off.

  • @nykibelle go demon, go away.

  • @nykibelle HAHA you probably listen to snoop dog, kesha , and bruno mars don't you ! they all sing about drugs, sex, parties, and how much money they have. They will eventually die off and the world will be a better place . And how would you know what a rapist looks like ? Oh yeah I forgot about you and the man who lives down the street from you .
