  • Y'all are just jealous. All I have to say: Rose Parade and 3 Midwest performances.

  • @Designillivic Good for you? Its all about the $ you have to get to do cool things.

  • lol haters gonna hate but since i have been a sophomore we have gotten 10 straight grandchampions, oh and symphonic winds is going to midwest this year. nbd

  • Lakota West=Overrated.

  • @DamageInc1996

Its true, if you look @ a group of like 5 marchers and follow them, they are not that great. The sheer size overwhelms most people and you look past the actual skill level of the band.

  • @AgentDark THANK YOU! Sure, they may play music well and have like 300 ppl but they cant march worth a crap. Im in another big marching band in AA (same as them) and sure they may need to qualify to play in it, but they cant march whatsoever and its bullcrap they win so many. They cant march or make their sets look all that great.

  • @DamageInc1996

you should search this year's show, or pretty much any one after this one. because this weekend Lakota West beat Grove City...and even though GC didnt have band last year, they're still pretty damn good

  • @DamageInc1996 watch this year's state finals:

  • this was the same year that Grove City did their airplane show, right?

  • @MissIndyGoRound Not sure, check my vids. I got GC 07 on here I think

  • State is never the best show. I was in the marching band that year. We did pretty well for practicing our competition show and the Rose Parade. For all you who say that show sucked remember that we had to worry about 2 shows and not just 1 like most bands. It was a good show.

  • Lakota East has never been to Midwest and West has twice..I went with them in 2006. Winds at West has earned straight superior ratings at state contest since it has existed. You can't judge West's band program based upon one performance of the marching band. I am infinitely proud of Lakota's band program, I was in Winds and marching band all 3 years and it was the greatest experience of my life. Hawaii '05, Midwest '06, and the Rose Parade '07-'08..oh and I am in the woodwind feature at 10:02 :)

  • yeah now listen to lakota west symphonic winds... ne1 top that?

  • hey guise, i think wagner is a pretty cool guy eh beats up all teh bad guys and doesn't afraid of anything!

  • i think u guys should check out our video from this year. espically everyone who left a comment saying we suck. cause this year was a ton alot better

  • idk if east did or not. but u cant rly compare bands off of 2 videos from last year. u'd have to look at all the past years shows too, which there are no videos of.

east is better then in the past, but so is west. our show was horrible last year, just look at it. like i said b4, bad choice of music and drill, and with over 100 ppl who joined just b/c of the trip to california, we sucked. our show is a TON better this year. i wish there was a video of it

  • i heard lakota east scored much higher in the competitions, and this year lakota east marching band is much better compared to previous years, so you guys better not lose again

  • I agree honestly, but serioudly dont be a douche here. This is not the place.

  • well thats percussion, not the whole band. we got every other award and still won. we had 300 btw. now we're smaller and in the low 200's. everyone joined last year because we were going to california. alot of ppl didnt care how we did, it made us alot worse. and i think our music choice was iffy, plus the drill sucked

  • I hate to see the West and East kids bicker about "who's better," but I guess it goes with the territory. Both band programs are phenomenal. Some people may not realize that, unlike most schools, the Lakota District focuses on the concert band program and conducts marching band strictly as an after-school program. The various concert bands meet during school throughout the fall and have concerts in October and December. Marching band, therefore, is meant to be more fun than competitive.

  • Guys, everyone knows that your bands only look good cuz your massive. You only have a loud sound because your huge and mistakes are covered up. Get over yourselves.

  • that doesnt make sense. if u have a big band, it just makes it harder to march together. and the last time i checked, Marching and Genderal Effect both outweigh Music in any competition. and we win tons of competions. so u must be stupid, cause i dont know where your coming from

  • well, music is just as important. it's actually a big part of overall effect as well as general effect. those categories have a lot to do with the show as a whole. where i come from, music is the show.

  • i agree that it makes it harder to stay in step together the bigger the band. and once you have so many people, you're just hogging the field and not doing much else. cause you can't do much else since all the room on the field is taken up by people. but lakota west and east make me sad cause i'm pretty sure they could eat our band... we only have 93 members this year and thats a lot compared to past years.

  • i agree that music is a big part and partially why we win sometimes. im from grove city and we have 220ish and it is hard to get everyone to march together, but it can be done

    :]

  • dont be so modest. GC is...was...the envy of central ohio. every other band looks up to you.

  • u just had to add the "was" didnt u....lol

  • i had too, unfortunately. GC was by far my favorite band. i have the upmost respect for mr edge and the tremendous history behind the GC band program.

  • wrong. it is now two "visual judges" and two "music judges" with a side of general effect. they are worth the same amount of points. and, "getting the feet together" is much easier to cover up when youre marching 300, as opposed to 50. agent is exactly right, you are very good at covering up your mistakes.

  • You're sooooo wrong! This is one of the best high school marching bands that I've ever seen. The reason they can destroy a band of 50 is because the band of 50 can't be as selective with people as Lakota can. They march close to 300 so I'm sure they have annual tryouts for marching band. So Lakota has the advantage of being able to put the best of everybody on the field in the same band. The band of 50 puts whatever they can scrape up on the field, allowing for less talent. Watch the 09 vid bud.

  • If you watch a select form of like 10 kids, its really bad. Its mass numbers. I'm sorry, but thats the reality. Your no Coffman or Grove City, thats for sure.

  • I'm not a lakota west either. lol. Louisville! What!

  • @AgentDark

go watch 2008 and 2009 state finals. then tell me what you think. this year wasnt up to par at all. its a horrible example of the marching band program at west. and while your at it listen to Lakota West Symphnoic Winds.

Coffman is on the same level as both Lakota's. no disrespect but they certainly arnt like Grove City. but Coff. nor G.C. has such strong instrumental programs like East or West. with bands that have been to Midwest and jazz bands that have been to North Texas

  • Whatever you say

  • @lakotawest42 TL;DR

  • Nice job, but it was boring. Lakota East is much better.

  • hey so i am in marching band but you guys have a hard time staying together i saw some kids out of step with the people around them but i give you props for the way you sound

    A Band Kid

  • I agree that Wagner wasn't the best choice for the show...I hope the '08 show will be better. :D

The Tournament of Roses Parade was AMAZING!!

  • Hey,

I play clarinet in the Lakota West Marching Firebirds. This shouldn't be a big deal to fix, but the name of our school marching band is "Lakota", not "Lokota". I can understand why you may have spelled it that way.

Here's a little more information about the '07-'08 show:

-We're playing "Wagner Legends" by Gary P. Gilroy

-At the time we had 285 band members

-We also performed this show in the Tournament of Roses

-We marched in the Tournament of Roses Parade

    Thank you,

    Sydney Barnes

  • Thanks. I updated it ASAP

  • can you say huge?

  • you know, you have to admit that wagner is really good, just maybe not for a marching band show. we still did really well this year. :) i mean, the rose parade was an experience that i'll never forget.

  • deff not one of LAKOTAs (thats how you spell it btw)better shows, Phantom in 2003 was the best so far. but still amazing as always. love you guys!

  • I <3 Elsa's

  • Great show! Fantastic music! But after watching the video response, I think Coffman got a more entertaining show. Nontheless keep up the GREAT WORK!.

  • It's definitely Lakota West... but yeah, that was definitely our best performance the whole year... and in the middle of the show it just started snowing... or sleeting, whatever you call that... and of course, we are a tremendous band(stretching from 10 to 10 in the company front). Overall, a good year for us, but there's no doubt that was our worst show ever(seriously, Wagner?). Oh well... Rose Parade, here we come.

  • what was ur rating... im from middletown and our band(ill be a member of next year) got a 1

  • I think they got straight I's. Both Lakota schools have received superior ratings at state contest each year since the "split" in 1997. By the way, Middletown seems to be a really up-and-coming program. CONGRATS!

  • thanks... i've from my parents that we've always had a good music program... i just wish we had more people... i think you have 295 in this band... we have 95 lol
