In mathematics, the nth roots of unity, or de Moivre numbers, are all the complex numbers that yield 1 when raised to a given power n. They are located on the unit circle of the complex plane, and in that plane they form the vertices of an n-sided regular polygon with one vertex on 1.
Hoffer was a really fascinating guy and definitely a great mind. Very strange though. The biggest thing he lacked was integration. In other words, he had a lot of great thoughts and observations here and there, but did not bring them together into an integrated, non-contradictory philosophy or thesis.
I don't think he thought highly enough of his thoughts or himself to warrant doing so, we should be so lucky considering the excess centrism of western logic.
@soitoldhimno To have done so would quite possibly have run the risk of the very thing he felt was wrong with intellectuals in the first place. He felt that when someone had a system of thought or thesis, they became intolerant, fanatical and blind to reality outside their beliefs. By constantly waging war on such things in his own way, Hoffer was truly an unattached man. We mustn't ever assume we know the one and only way things work-for that is the end of genuine inquiry.
I wonder what Rand and Hoffer thought of each other? I think both of them would object to the way some of Rand's followers behave today, since they were both strongly opposed to the whole notion of "followers".
@XOmniverse I actually like the music, it adds a darker sense to Hoffer's words. He was a brilliant man who dealt severely with the illusions of people. In fact, I often come to this video just to hear the music.
Eric Hoffer is one of my all-time favorites. If philosophy is "love of wisdom" rather than "academic nit-picking" (I owe that wording to some other Youtuber whose name I forget), he's one of the greats.
I love Eric Hoffer.
The font is very hard to read and the music does not go well with the words.
Work more at it...Is a growing process....

Fuck Ayn Rand, but I love Hoffer. Your taste in music sucks.

What specifically about this song is not to your liking?

I have a distaste for that humbucker sound yet the polyphony had its moments.
The dot matrix text was a worse choice than the music IMO, but thanks for the post.

Don't listen to him. Excellent choice. Thanks for posting this up.

A great introduction to Eric Hoffer is "Truth Imagined" from 1983 - and is now back in print!

Death - The Sound of Perseverance is an album every metalhead should own, so long as you can tolerate "extreme" vocals.

What are you using?
Z4lUS 4 years ago
To make the images, I used the highly advanced MS Paint :) Seemed pointless to load up GIMP just to make images with text on them.
XOmniverse 4 years ago
Ah the trusty ol' MS Paint ;) Are you using Linux?
Z4lUS 4 years ago
No, Windows (I play games, and Direct3D support on Linux still blows), but I use a lot of open source software.
