  • God the way he says lusting. This song is just fabulous. I'm sad that the film didn't do as well as it should have done.

  • Daniel Day-Lewis is wonderful. He is sexy and can sing and act and dance. What more could a woman want in a man?

  • @businesschic24 a big weewee.

  • I am in LOVE with this man.

  • Daniel day Lewis amazes me. this musical is a favorite of mine

  • Anyone have the actual clip? o.0

  • The last thirty seconds or so....OH MY GOD....magnificent!!!!!

  • He used my granddads boxing gym in his movie the Boxer. Hes fucking amazing i worship this man i never knew he could sing this is like Holy Shit AMAZING

  • My absolute favorite actor and song from nine!

    Daniel Day-Lewis is the best!

  • how can people say sondheim isn't melodic when this song is as unmemorable as they come. as epic as it sounds

  • @lavalamp625 This isn't Sondheim - it's Maury Yeston.

  • @rapunzel152 my point ezactly

  • I like this song in the movie, but after this song in the movie, Guido was said SO MANY TIMES.

  • I love this song. This is one of my favorite musicals, and movies, now. And all my favorite songs are the ones that Daniel Day-Lewis sings.

  • well Guido is one lucky man souranded by beautiful women

  • I think that the whole movie was great! Most plays or musical productions are difficult to take to the big screen, but this movies captured the essence of the original Broadway production . Since Guido's character is so complex, and since the whole story is being seen from his point of view, the movie becomes the representation of a crisis.

I'm really happy with this film, I loved the ending, makes me imagine a thousand different ways the story could be... Nothing less but art.

  • i think this is the best song, in the film, it is an ode for his ego, a statement that is well put in the beginning, and in the later song, he is a broken man, and in the end he is whole again, it is perfect.

  • Agreed.

  • Yeah, good enough film. But you have to admit, the storyline was kinda non-existent. And the ending.. Me and my friends were sitting there like "is that it?" But yeah. I liked the songs and costumes and whatnot.. (:

  • extraordinary track and performance AGAIN from Daniel Day Lewis

  • Daniel Day Lewis is ok - but if you think the song is badly written you're wrong. Find it by Raul Julia, its amazing. He was the original Guido on Broadway.

  • I loved the movie, and the songs.

    It was art !

  • its a shame the movies isnt great but everyone in it is very very good in particular marian cotillard and of course the man himself...Daniel Day Lewis.

  • INCREDIBLE actor and an AMAZING singer....next we need to see him dance

  • Yes I agree with you - I found the plot of the film very flimsy.

  • are you kidding? I love this song!

  • This is my favourite song in this movie. DDl did a good job

  • I think Day-Lewis has a good voice, it's the song that is lacking.

  • DDL, what have you done.

  • is tht a good or bad "what have you done?"

  • lol his voice at 2 : 09 love this song

  • Jonathan Pryce was better. But too old to play Guido now I guess? DDL is an incredible actor, one of the best ever and he definitely has a passable singing voice but....actors who have no experience of acting through song show themselves them up immediately. There are so many missed opportunities in this song for acting through song.

  • Oh Daniel Day Lewis, you can do no wrong. <3

  • I love DDL with all my heart...one of my top five actors ever...but Antonio Banderas should have been given this role...he was PERFECTION in this a few years ago and has a much stronger singing voice than Daniel.

P.S. - Jonathan Pryce also played Guido on the stage and hit this song out of the fuckin park...the best version IMHO

  • I think DDL hit the nail on the head. the movie was fantastic.

  • Movie was good, Daniel as always was entertaining to watch...I just really wanted his version of the song to soar and not be quite so subdued

  • the song expressed the character of Guido.

  • @AshLuvsJonnyStew

Antonio Wouldn't have gotten the role. Rob Marshall casts ACTORS first and SINGERS second. There were obviously better casting options vocally for Chicago aside from Renee Zellwegger and Richard Gere and he didn't go with them.

Considering that Javier Bardem was his first choice and DDL was number two shows that Marshall was looking for an acting juggernaut to play Guido. Banderas can't hold a candle to either of those two in that department, and that's not debatable.

  • Javier left due to exhaustion....

Note that I didn't say DDL didn't sing well...he did....just not as well as I was hoping that's all...though his second song was very good. I love the movie in general but was just a little let down by some of the songs, especially as NINE is one of my favorite musicals.

And I think all the actors in Chicago were great, Zeta-Jones and John C. Reilly especially.

  • I mean, he's . . . ok Compared tho, he's awful. I guess if you don't already know the original song or Antonio's version, i could see how you might think its good. But oh man, listen to the others. This one is awful compared.

  • this guy can do it all!!!

  • I think this is really good

  • Chrishot10 yo've forgotten Richard Gere (in Chicago he sings very well) ans John Travolta

  • I agree for John Travolta. I just mentioned the first two names that came in my mind, I didn't mean that Jackman and McGregor are the only actors in Hollywood who can sing.

  • So is daniel day!

Daniel day lewis can actually do anything, he is a genius

  • Actually that's not called 'singing'. That's called 'speaking'. It's recorded and still he can't sing. He's a great actor but sorry, he can't sing. Even the critics agree with that so far. You want to know two Hollywood actors who can actually sing? Go listen to Hugh Jackman or Ewan McGregor. Then come and tell me that Daniel can sing.

  • and don't forget Banderas my god i heard his version and i loved it.

  • I agree. But this director is somewhat known for taking really good actors and using them in a singing role, much like he did in Chicago. in interviews with the cast (and i think in the special features of the DVD) they talk about how they were simply trained to speak musically. still can make a hell of a production if there isn't too much of it,

  • daniel is singing !!

  • he's my favorite actor!... but i completely agree :(

  • Comment removed

  • Daniel is genius. Heath Ledger also lost himself in his roles on this par. Johnny Depp also comes to mind. At one time, Robert Downey, Jr. (come back, Bobby baby!) sat alongside these kings of role characterization and harmony.

    DDL, you rule!

  • lol I watched an interview about how at first he didn't want to do this movie at all because it required singing/choreography. I think his voice is just fine! How modest! ;) I'm quite a fan of his work and can't wait to see this one!

  • I know this guy has some obsessive fans out there, but his singing is hardly "amazing" - he can just carry a tune. Now in this case, that will do since he's not doing South Pacific or something like that, but frankly Antonio Banderas sang this number far better - and live onstage, not in the safety of a recording studio - and acted the part very well. I'm sure DDL is fine, but some of you folks desperately need to get a sense of proportion.

  • hardly amazing?? hes never done a musical in his life, and he sings like that? recorded or not, its exceptional! antonio banderas yes sang this number very well, his spanish origin would make it easier to embody the european character. DDL,

  • Is english born and bred and can stretch his range beyond any human being ever has in acting, oh and hes jjust been nomitated for another golden globe. HERO. you are stupid

  • dude some actors can't even carry a tune. look a brosnan in mamma mia. at least DDL is nice to listen to

nothing worst then an actor who can't even make a decent version of a song

  • I would like the universe to get down on its knees and say LEWIS!!!!!!!

  • Day lewis said he was worried about his singing, i think he sounds fuckin amazing!!!! This man can do anything in movies!!!! He is just simply amazing!!!!! DDL BEST ACTOR ALIVE!!!

  • oh my GOOODDDDDD I LOVE THE ENDING OF THIS SONG. too epic

  • god i can't wait till the soundtrack and movie come out!

    <3

  • what a genius, the man carefully choses which films he wants to take part it, and then smashes the characterisation perfectly. The difference between this character, Bill the Butcher, and Daniel Plainview is staggering, and to be able to portray a character completelly different from yourself on film is remarkable. People like Keanu Reves struggle to even act like themselves in front of a camera, let alone different accent, body physicality and thoughts of character. Bring on Oscar number 3!

  • i couldnt wait to hear guidos accent haha

  • I want him to win the Oscar so bad!!!!!!!!!!

  • WOW

  • love his new accent!

  • He reportedly stayed in character throughout the whole making of the movie!

I AM FREAKISHLY SURPRISED!!! He's got an amazing voice!

  • yeah he does that for every movie, always has done, what a journey for an actor 2!

  • He does that with every film. When he got pneumonia during the filming of "Gangs of New York," he apparently refused medication at first because it was not in keeping with the era of the film. Or, at least, that's what IMDb said.

  • I never knew about that.

Now THAT'S what I call method!

  • oh my gosh how freakin adorable is his voice??

  • Wow! When i first heard that he was in this movie i was like- wait can he even sing? Then i remembered he was Daniel Day Lewis, he could do anything.

  • Love that he does the accent while singing! Daniel is the best actor ever!!!!

  • so talented.

  • wow!!

i love the humor ddl injects in this song. he has a surprisingly solid, sexy voice.

    cannot wait for NINE!!!
